We had booked an evening out for the first time since our son was born last year, and I had managed to book a table for the wrong night! Luckily, the great staff at Gingerboy managed to squeeze us in with just a minute waiting time. We got the "feed-me" menu, and was not disappointed. So much food, lots of... More

I hadn't been to Gingerboy for many years, but had loved it when I did - and working in a hotel in the city I have often recommended it to guests and friends from interstate. My husband and I went to have the Sunday lunch banquet with bottomless drinks package - which sounded like a great deal. We have done... More

Seated upstairs on plastic bar stools. Bit squishy and not ideal for a pregnant friend. Food was delicious. Dumplings amazing along with the vegetarian spring rolls. Did find our drinks had more ice in them than liquid which was disappointing. No value. Would I go back.... sorry. Overrated for what it is.

Duck curry was too sweet, fried cumin dumpling was all right, yellow curry snapper was tasty. The dishes here doesn't have enough "twist" for me.

Great, spicy food and friendly service made for an excellent night out with business colleagues. The wine list, whilst carrying some good wines, came with a hefty price tag. If you quench your thirst with tap water you will have a good time.

I'd heard of gingerboy for years and I love chinchin, lucylu and long grain so expected a higher level of flavour and fusion. The staff and atmosphere are great. We loved the experience of gingerboy but were a little disappointed with the food. Small servings and lack of zest and vibe in taste. For the price it didn't compare to... More

Finally got to try Gingerboy with some friends from NZ and we were not disappointed. Food was excellent. Great fusions. We enjoyed every dish. Venue was packed and staff were super busy but still very attentive and helpful. Looking forward to visiting again and trying more from the menu!

Another awesome night at this wonderful restaurant! We had a great table, on our previous visit the seating was a little tight. We were in the later seating time of 8.30 and the service started a little slow with cocktails and drinks taking their time to arrive. But the staff were fantastic, food brilliant - we ordered too much as... More

Not impressed with the front of house person being snooty so wasn't a good start - that attitude should have gone out with the 90's - especially with so many other good places (high and medium quality) to eat nearby. Won't bother again - no matter what the rep - but see many other 'blah' comments now.

Description
The dining experience at Gingerboy is centered on a modern Australian adaptation of the Asian hawker-style street market food. The restaurant's hustle and bustle, its fast-paced, youthful and dynamic environment is influenced not only by the dining culture of Southeast Asia but also by buzzing Asian marketplaces and an Asian sense of colour and fun.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
