A great dinner here, good atmosphere, prompt and gutsy service finished up with great food and wine. The service here was the stand-out. Suggestive, but not pushy, honest but not discouraging and efficient but without feeling like we needed to turn our table out. Food was delicious. We decided to order our own meals instead of the banquet which I... More

I was a solo traveler looking for a good quality meal. Gingerboy was recommended by a friend. The food was delicious. I ordered two items from the menu, as I wanted to sample more than one thing. My intent was to take the left overs back to the hotel. I was politely informed that that they do not have a... More

Food was great! Service has gone down so much! Dined Friday evening 19/5, was busy , however we had bad service, from the get go. Seriously lacking, bad attitude like we were doing them a favour by just being there! I'm in hospo myself, would seriously look at retraining these guys ASAP!

The food has some WOW factor. But.. Does Basil Fawlty run the place? Parts of the meal shone "this is amazing' my son said at one stage. But were couldn't get served for wine then they couldn't get a menu to us then one said that the other would take our orders but no-one did. THEN two people one front,... More

We eat here a lot and have our favorite main dish and mainly mix up the entree's for something different, but on the last 3 occasions things have been slipping service wise. The food is always excellent and if you are looking for interesting asian foods, then this place is worth your time and $$. Expect to pay over $100... More

Gingerboy is a sister concern of Ezard but unlike Ezard, it has no hat in 2017. We had a family dinner for 5 people. The service was good and no BYO. Alll the menus are explained clearly. We ordered about 4 Entrees and 3 Main dishes. Keep in mind that the menu is Thai food influenced and some fusion type... More

My daughter who is a chef and a foodie recommended my partner and I dine at Gingerboy whilst in Melbourne so I pre booked and we were not disappointed. The food was beautiful and our waiter Liam was awesome. I had been advised to have the chicken ribs and our waiter applauded this choice and helped with the rest of... More

After being told that we would be seated in 15 mins, we waited patiently for over 40mins. This is my third visit and I advised my colleague of how great the food is. To be honest it was not the great, in fact the quail spring roll special packed an aniseed punch that made it uneatable.

Let me, from the outset, indicate that this review reflects a very different opinion to the many rave reviews this joint has received from fellow Tripadvisors. I also am prepared to sheet some of my opinion to age and more traditional approaches to a dining experience. That said.... We took the 18:00 sitting but managed to persuade them to push... More

First up, understand that I don't eat to live. I live to eat. I've been travelling to Melbourne for almost two decades. I love Melbourne. The food. The laneways. I can spend days exploring the CBD, finding new things. I am a creature of habit, though. Which brings me to Gingerboy. When I go to Melbourne, Gingerboy is always my... More

Description
The dining experience at Gingerboy is centered on a modern Australian adaptation of the Asian hawker-style street market food. The restaurant's hustle and bustle, its fast-paced, youthful and dynamic environment is influenced not only by the dining culture of Southeast Asia but also by buzzing Asian marketplaces and an Asian sense of colour and fun.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
