Came here for dinner with the family after seeing the reviews on TripAdvisor. Had a lovely time. Food was delicious, staff were friendly and attentive and had a lovely man playing his musical instruments. Would highly recommend.

Nothing up-market or trendy here, but tradition holds strong. Wonderful food in a traditional style, with good servings at good prices. A regular for me on Melbourne visits, and a simple stroll across the road for a great coffee at Pellegrinis.

It was our own fault for not realising we should have booked our pretheatre dinner so Spaghetti Tree was the only place we could find with a free table and a promise to be out in an hour. We had the pesto gnocchi and the meat cannelloni. The cannelloni tasted like my mother's savoury mince in a passata...boring. The gnocchi... More

Still one if the nicest dining experiences in a city of multiple choices. A good range of Italian fare, and comfortable surroundings, where one can sit and enjoy the atmosphere as well as the food. Generous fresh servings; try the spadhetti and meatballs - none better. Reasonably priced foid and drinks. Do not go past

Amazing service, so friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was lovely with a gentleman playing violin and keyboard. Food selection good. You could select several sauces to add to a gluten-free pasta, but there was only the one kind of pasta. Food was delish and tasty.

We dined here recently after an absence of a couple of years. We were pleased to see the place hadn't changed and the décor was still the same. The food and service remain the same, but I was a little disappointed that a favourite meal had disappeared from the menu. These days it is hard to get a pasta dish... More

It had been a long time between visits to this iconic Melbourne restaurant and nearly 20 years on it still has a very luxurious charm. We went for an early dinner mid week before heading to the theatre and were not disappointed. My initial reason for booking was wanting an authentic pasta dish but once I got there I changed... Took friends and this time I had spaghetti bolognese which was a real departure from my usual veal choice. The restaurant was packed as usual and we experienced great food and service. Thanks Spaghetti Tree for your consistency! Another nice meal.

I returned to the Spaghetti Tree (twice in a week) on a recent visit to Melbourne. My last visit was way back in 1983. The decor hasn't changed much - which is good. That the Spaghetti Tree is still open after all these years is testament to the quality of the fare and the level of service. My colleague and... More

Returned to an old favourite here and didn't disappoint. Always busy with good reason. If you've spent time in Melbourne and not been here you're missing out!

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
