Really enjoyed the meal along with the service which is outstanding. The place is busy at lunch time during the week which is always a good sign. Prices are too expensive though.

We each had a "Chef's special" sushi--one with 12 pieces and one with 7 pieces. They were excellent! The fish was as fresh as we can ever recall having at a sushi restaurant and the service was excellent. We watched others around us have an assortment of other dishes and they all looked wonderful and were served stylishly. We'll go... More

All we ate was very good, we were looking for abalone, and we found it delicious. Music was a little bit loud and not suitable for talking...

I always had assumed that I'd eaten "good" Japanese food - that is, until I went to Hanabishi. This restaurant takes quality to a new high. Never have I had such excellent, fresh sushi. The presentation was exquisite and the things that went on in my mouth defy description. Simple, yet with amazing subtle complexity - every bite just perfect.... More

It's an unpretentious Japanese restaurant not too far from Southern Cross Station, and run, I think, by Japanese people, judging from the language they spoke to each other. The food would not be out of place in Kyoto, really excellent, subtle but defined tastes all complementing each other. The staff were attentive without being obtrusive and very helpful. Altogether a... More

went to Hanabishi for my mum's birthday celebration and it was an amazing experience. we choose the $105/pax omakase menu which turned out to be a worthwhile meal of quality and diversity .the service staff were attentive and took pains to explain the different components of the dinner. our favourite was the cedar wood fish which had a subtle hint... Had a quick meal here before the soccer. The food was beautiful and fresh. The service was great. Full of Japanese people which is always a good sign. Relatively new to Japanese food. The Aburi was the best that I have had.

Absolutely delicious food. Fish was extremelly fresh, just melted in the mout. Unpretensious, simple restaurant mainly visited by business people. Also had wagyu beef that was phenomenal. Will definitely return.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
