Came across this gem of a place while searching for late night eats. Very popular place, we dined on a Saturday night and didn't have to wait more than 5min to get a table. Staff are very efficient and attentive. Food was delicious- roti was one of the best I've had, plus the beef kebabs with satay sauce. Decent prices... More

Came here a bit late on a Thursday evening but the place was still busy! While the staff aren't known for being super friendly, the food is superb. Don't come here if you want a nice leisurely dinner. This is where you have a wonderful meal without breaking the bank, but there are certainly no frills about this place. Flavours... More

Roti and long bens are fine. But fish and chicken have no taste. Go Sydney eat Mamak. That is the best. ...

Lovely malaysian food. Roti light and fluffy. Several different types of roti. Lamb curry, was very tasty. Extra sambal sauce gave an extra kick!! We will be back.

One of the best Malaysian restaurants in Melbourne. Good food at a very reasonable price. They have different kinds of Roti, that I liked. Less number of items in the Menu, however, whatever I tried, I loved it all. Quality and quantity of the food are up to the mark. Service: Service was quick and wait staffs were friendly and... Mamak has been around for years and lately we feel that the standard has dropped. The food still looks great but some of the flavours have gone flat. The sambal which is such an important aspect in the nasi lemak is now too sweet which caters to the Australian taste, and the rice too wet. The roti with rending is... More

Lunched at Mamak recently with MOTH - what a great experience! His choice was spicy sambal prawns (with rice) $14.0 and mine, crispy fried long beans (also with rice) $12.0. We dithered about whether we'd be hungry??? But when we were served, there were 6 large prawns and a heap of sambal-rich green beans. Big bonus for me - piping... More

Went here with my husband and friends on a Thursday night for dinner after work. Truly delicious!! We all really enjoyed our meals. I had the lamb - which melted in my mouth. I would highly recommend it. The original roti was also very tasty. Good service and friendly staff. It was very busy so not somewhere to go for... More

Lunch specials has value for money options based on Australian standard. If you order any Kari is good for two people to share but order one additional rice. Roti canai is as good as it gets back in any mamak stall in Penang or KL.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
