I always get a little suss when I see people rating with one review as seen below. I was in the area buying shoes and I hadn't had a souva for quite some time so I hit old TripAdvisor and up came King Jons. The place is a fast food restaurant, so don't be too critical of decor or top... More

Joined TripAdvisor to put my 2c in after the shock of reading some of these reviews! Live close to this place and I have to say they have some of the best damn gyros in Melbourne. The pita is thick, fluffy and freekin awesome. Not like your usual flat garbage. The lamb is absolutely top-notch. My wife hates "yucky bits"... More

The decor is out of the eighties and the service is friendly and the meat and ingredients are all tasty and what you want in a souvlaki. Given their surroundings it's a reliable place to go when you need a feed

Terrible! The service was awful, the staff were unfriendly and had greasy skin, sweating in food, which was also horrible

I don't know exactly what they do to the meat, but it is extremely tender & tasty - quick & friendly service as well

Best souvlaki I've ever had. Great little find in King St. Fast friendly service. Just around the corner from our accomodation. We came here twice as once wasn't enough!

King Jon's is a late-night operation on the north end of the strip club sector in Melbourne's CBD. Normally, that would flash a "no-go" warning, unless you're drunk and dissolute at 2 a.m. I was sober but out of time-synch after flying back from a North American holiday, and I've been meaning to try this place, because it's close to... This is what a great lamb souvlaki sandwich looks and tastes like. Stuffed full of tasty spit-roasted lamb. My favorite souvlaki sandwich. I miss this about Melbourne, because elsewhere Eastern Australia (Sydney, Brisbane) is dominated by Turkish kebab sandwiches. While kebabs and souvlaki's are similar, you should learn the difference. I bow to King Jon's (for their sandwich).

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
