Invited - we had breakfast there. The posched eggs were okay. The baguette was really French, the black bread with salmon was very good, the waitress down to the point. Sitting inside was fair enough. You shouldn't be more than four people. We were five and had to sit on the big table, which is for internet users.

There are much better places than Chez Dre in South Melbourne. I asked locals after my recent visit their opinion, all said it is not what it used to be. I had their breakfast omelette and it was a dried tastless circle dropped on a plate. Nothing like a French omelette should be. I believe the first thing they teach... More

Never disappoints - maybe because the charcoal toast wasn't on the menu. But so many creative choices like the green tea poached pears means you are always delighted to be at Chez Dre.

Gets busy weekends and mid morning but perfect a business breakfast with the standards croque madame and avo luxe both great, but some interesting extras on the menu and many seating options. Great on a sunny day if Melbourne provides but also warm and chic in winter

Went there for a brunch and it was pretty average for what they charged us. Coffee was good though. May not visit again!

This was not our first time at Chez Dre but had not been for a while. Meals here are always amazingly good with a good selection of take home breads and cakes. If your looking for a good breakfast/lunch spot this is the go to place. Love it.

Fantastic breakfast in a great hidden away gem of a cafe. Tuckes at the end of an alley way, well worth a visit for a hearty cooked brekkie or pastries and coffee.

A lovely venue for business meetings in an inspiring space. Great coffee, good indoor and outdoor space and a great menu. Not too noisy which is a nice change! Delicious menu options and the cakes look like works of art. Worth a look.

My husband and I decided to have some brunch here and what a wonderful experience we had! I ordered the banana and chocolate pancakes that were on their specials. They arrived and a little bug landed on them, the lady was so quick she didn't even put the plate down on the table when she had noticed it and she... More

Staying in South Melbourne

Neighbourhood Profile
South Melbourne
South Melbourne hosts the city’s oldest continuous market, founded in 1867. Rows of neatly arranged fruit, vegetables and flowers splash yellows, greens and reds along the entire perimeter, where the whole neighbourhood gathers for Saturday feasts. Inside the hall, shoppers hover over the mouth-watering displays of delicatessens and specialty food shops. Further in, a bazaar full of giftware, clothing, and kitchen utensils completes the scene. Take a break to walk the wide and shady streets and stroll along the Victorian-era heritage terrace houses. But return to the market in time for some paella, simmering in three large frypans on the footpath and served straight onto your plate.
