Always great to pop in. 'Aviation' is a must try. Also 'americano'. Oh and you can take a cocktail home in a bottle 🥃 - how awesome?! Have been coming here for 2 years - one of my favourite places in melbourne

Hard to find place but I was taken there by my new friends. It's at the end of small alley and it doesn't have name outside. Very small place with interesting cocktails Don't be surprised if you have to wait outside to get in.

Artistic cocktails, made with love and skill. Tiny bar (and I mean tiny), standing room only. Not that easy to find, but that's half the fun. Great to have two cocktails, and then move on to your next adventure.

Go there and ask those crazy scientists to make you a cocktail.... result is incredibly fab. Don't touch your T.V. ......It's really B&W like good old days

We visited Bar Americano on our previous visit to the city and it was a must for our return. Still as difficult to find but as good as ever, the drinks are top notch and the guys producing the drinks are great. We were made very welcome by Shay & Julian who had taken over the mantle from Hadyn whom... More

Taken here for a surprise nightcap whilst having an evening out with my son who lives and works in Melbourne. The alley it is off is not the best but you forget this in the warmth of the welcome. I have never before been to a bar authorised to serve a maximum of 10 people at a time. When this... More

Nice little bar down an alley way with a good cocktail menu. Waiter was fantastic, very welcoming and we were greeted with a glass of water and menus. Quite a delight to have a late night intimate drink in, when you take in to account the cost of the premium ingredients the drinks were reasonably priced. As we're the takeout... More

Cramped and no seating but Julian the waiter was charming and subtly convinced us to change our initial order to two wonderful new drinks (credit to Andrew the barman) we would not have chosen for ourselves. Thanks for the vote if you found this review helpful.

One of the best hidden bars in Melbourne!! Down an alleyway (google maps really helped) and into this awesome hole in the wall. Friendly awesome bartenders who can recommend and create exactly what u are in the mood for. Totally amazing speakeasy...kinda what u would expect back in the days in Chicago. We loved it!!! Tips: Go early, it's tiny... More

Unique styling, wonderful drinks, and very friendly dudes behind the bar. OK so you have to stand (no seats) - just provides a good indicator of how many cocktails you've had. Oh, and they do this interesting thing with ice blocks that go in the drinks!

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
