A truly French meal. When the wine waiter can discuss Chateauneuf- du pape with you because he lived there you know it is going to be good.

First time going to the French Brasserie. Had no expectations of the restaurant other than it would be French....it was lovely. Classic dishes delivered beautifully. If you want to try snails without going to Paris, this is the place. The charcuterie plate was great as a share entrée but the salmon three ways should probably be restricted to one, maybe... More

We went mid week without a booking and a table was promptly set up for us. The service was good and we had a very nice french style dinner.

It was our 40th wedding anniversary. Thought we were going to a fine dining restaurant. So disappointed, food was very average and SO expensive. Ruined my evening. Food salty, had to peel the garlic for the garlic butter, no fork for the dessert and I could continue about how poor it was. Come from country Victoria and our restauranteurs could... More

Made us want to contemplate visiting France and the fine food and wine. Some people like a bottle of wine and a large meal. We tend to enjoy variety - by glass; and 3 or 4 small meals. Good food deserves time to savour and digest.

It seems the best way to really experience what a restaurant is offering and also enjoy the cuisine. Yes you should most certainly visit France, as the food and culture are phenomenal (we're a tad... Discretely tucked down the Malthouse service lane, this restaurant is long, narrow, busy and noisy but just oozes atmosphere. Decor and ambiance is classic simple French. Understated a little, and with soft lighting, it provides an excellent basis for a rewarding dining experience. The food is mostly traditional French fare. Well cooked and simply presented, it is hard not to... More

At least it was open in early January when most of the other good restaurants are closed. Hence we chose although it was expensive 。food was average and too oily and greasy for our liking. NO gluten free bread in spite of request at the time of booking. The french fries were not up to the quality of the true... More

One word....WOW !! We were a table of five for my wife's birthday. Our waiter for the evening was Romain, he was brilliant, commencing by suggesting a cocktail that the two girls said was exactly as described. We dithered over the menu ( everything seemed so inviting). Romain came to our rescue with a charcuterie selection and olives. The selection... More

Great atmosphere and convenient location. The food and drinks were literally faultless across our 3 course meal. Pricing not cheap, but nor should it be considering the quality of food and ingredients. When you go a restaurant with such a good TripAdvisor ranking, you arrive with high expectations. These expectations were met and truly surpassed. What a restaurant, what fantastic... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
