Had a delicious collection of tasting plates on our visit for dinner recently. Highlight was the lamb ribs. Staff were very friendly and helpful with the menu.

Was given dinner here as a birthday treat. Hidden down a little alley near hardware lane we were created by friendly service & taken to a cosy corner upstairs. The staff were helpful with how much & what to choose. We had two of the tapas starters, the empanadas which was spicy but good & the croquette which I couldn't... More

Portello Rosso used to be great! It used to be authentic Spanish tapas. Now you'd be lucky to find a Spanish person in the restaurant and definitely not in the kitchen. The location is very Melbourne the food though is not. You can do better.

we googled good spanish restaurants and found this one - we had to try and tind it down a laneway but it was worth the search. Sangria, tapas and Paella all delicious if somewhat expensive. We had googled the menu before hand and had picked out a couple of sangrias we wanted to try but as it turned out they... More

A group of six enjoyed the Chefs selections accompanied by the red sangria! Really flavoursome and enjoyable with a good range of Spanish staples and some. Plenty to eat and no one went hungry only wanting more because it was so good! Best slow cooked lamb ribs ever! Well worth the visit and will return.

Came here on a sunday night, and was given a late sitting, which is why I was surprised at before 10pm they were packing up around us...I felt rushed to finish off the bottle of cava we had ordered and got the distinct feeling the staff were waiting for us to leave to close up.... not the best feeling, and... We were looking forward to out dinner at Portello Rosso as a previous experience was excellent. However this time whilst the food was acceptable it was a disappointment and overpriced. The paella for two we ordered was small and lacked the depth of flavours expected. No crispy base and poor quality seafood. The sangria was a bit watery and also... More

Always on the look out for Spanish food, so stumbled on this amazing little Spanish restaurant. 5 out of 5. Brilliant service, amazing Tapas and we enjoyed the mixed seafood and meat paella as main, the flavours were jumping around in our mouths. This is a must for Spanish food lovers. Yummy!!!!!!!

Great little place tucked away in knee of Melbournes fantastic laneways. Busy place with a good atmosphere. Nice menu with a good range of tapas and share plates. Cool cocktail bar on the top level.

We enjoyed the Chef's Selection. Each dish presented was very tasty and authentic. The service from the staff was fabulous. The quantity of food served for the banquet was sufficient. Drinks were a little on the expensive side. Overall a most enjoyable dining experience.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
