My husband and I were wandering the streets of Melbourne and decided to pull in here for a quiet mid-afternoon drink. The staff were attentive, the arrange of drinks available on tap was impressive and we loved the cosy feel of the place.

It's a really nice pub with a couple of floors and plenty of room to sit. The food was overcooked and greasy though. Great for a drink but not for a meal

Hard to beat for a beer on the sidewalk or inside with an English pub type ambience. You're spoilt for choice with a big range of great beers on tap plus excellent bar meals.

This place is usually very crowded as it's centrally located and has everything you'd want: A good menu, a wide selection of beers and a pleasant layout & decor. I dined here twice in the last week, a Tuesday evening and Sunday lunch. Food took a while to arrive on the Sunday, but it wasn't an unreasonable wait - possibly... More

has a meal, it was cold sent it back, came back warm, the chicken parma was horrible, it was like a supermarket bought one, not proper chicken breast, I only ate it because I was starving, other meals were small and dry.

we were there hoping for a good English meal but not up to expectation. The service was slow to come and food was not so authentic English. The only consolation was the Guinness draught that we were yearning for.

had a colleague in town who wanted a pub with decent pub food with boutique beers. Ticked the boxes on all counts - quick service, food was what you would expect - i had the sour dough steak sandwich and it was tasty. Staff friendly - nice ambience. nothing pretentious.

It's on the corner of Burke Street and Exhibition Street. A lot of people visit this place after work on weekdays and it can also get very busy on the weekends too. There are tables outside if it's full inside. The food is well priced and good quality, the wine and beers are a highly priced. I purchased a glass... More

Found the Elephant by accident while looking for a quick feed prior to the theatre. The pub was quite busy but we were able to find a table and decided to give it a go. There are heaps of beers on tap, I had an Irish beer followed by an English, pints and half pints seem to be the norm... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
