Pretty hard to find at first everyone we meet there for the first time can never find it. It's in a downstairs basement. Better than nobu, koko and all the rest. We tried 90 percent if all Japanese restaurants in melbourne and on more than one occasion. Absolutely amazing food amazing atmosphere me and my partners fav restaurant!

My husband and I had planned to go somewhere else near our hotel but it was closed we stumbled past this and recalled seeing good reviews on line. It was a great ambience and we were seated for drinks whilst waiting for a seat to eat. The staff were all really friendly and hospitable. We ate the tuna tartare, scallops,... More

If you would like to try really good Japanese food try izakaya. The sake range is good and they provide advice on sake food matching. This place is good. We recommend it. Try the tuna tataki! ✅👌

Conveniently located on the corner of Russell and Little Collins but you could easily missed it as it is in the basement - Down a flight of steps and through a nondescript entry. The atmosphere is not what you would expect of a Japanese restaurant however the food is authentically Japanese and fresh. We ordered a variety of shared dishes... More

Dropped in after going to a function nearby. Very funky cocktails prepared by uber serious bar tenders ( they take their jobs very seriously). Interesting if expensive Japanese themed snacks. Amazing range of sakes and Japanese liqueurs.Bring your wallet-prices are steep. Worth a visit for the groovy vibe and people. Dark and mysterious ambience-reminded me of being in an air-raid... Izakaya when the tennis is on in Melbourne is wonderful. Everybody is somewhere other than here. We could drink sake and eat tuna tataki without the usual izakaya busy. This place, despite that u need to know where it is, attracts a huge clientele because it is so good. If you want good service good Japanese street food and good... More

Visited for a quick bite. This was our second time here and not much has changed. It was really busy and we were unable to get a seat ( we didn't fancy sitting at the bar). We finally were given some seating and really enjoyed 3 plates to share. The food was lovely and a great range of drinks. It... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
