In 25 yrs living in Australia this is the closest I have been to a British pub dinner, really nostalgic. Off the tourist route, even though it's on Battery Point, friendly staff and interesting menu. Roaring fire and lovely atmosphere.

We were able to sneak in last minute mid-week and get a table at 8pm. Had tried to ring before hand to make sure they were still open but no one was answering so we just called in anyway and found them still open. Ordered...More

Shippies is certainly a Hobart institution. It's a delightful pub full of character and has a very nicely appointed restaurant. We were very well looked after by staff (thank you), and the drinks and food came quickly during our early evening family visit. However, the...More

A pub lunch is a pub lunch. Unless you go to Shippies and experience something above the ordinary. The decor and ambience are the first things that sets this quaint hotel apart. Followed by very friendly service, cold water without asking, very good wine list...More

The last few times I have been to Shippies to dine the experience hasn't been great. Inordinately long delays were the most common problem and a sense that it wasn't being well run. This looks to have changed with a recent lunch experience. Meals were...More

We love the ambience of this place, with its timber and stirring yacht photos. At lunch there is no rush and the service is fast and friendly. We both ordered the seafood platter, and for $35 it was great value. The flathead was sweet and...More

Sometimes you don't want a gastro-pub, you want a cold beer, a warm welcome and a feed while you watch the footy. There's a dining room but I didn't try that so I can't comment. I had good fish and chips at the bar and...More

After a long walk in and around Battery Point we were ready for a cold beer. The area around the pub is some of the oldest in Hobart and the cottages and mansions transport you back to the early days. We were too late for...More

My wife and middle daughter and I had lunch at Shippies yesterday. We were pleasantly surprised as the last time we visited it was not so good. We were welcomed nicely and shown to a table and were given a bottle of filtered 'cold' water,...More

Here is an excellent pub. Just remember to book. It is big with a lot of tables through many rooms but we went on a Friday night and got the last table. Food was well above average for a hotel and the detail was good....More

Description
Shipwrights Arms Hotel was established in 1846. Situated in the heart of historic Battery Point, Shippies (as it is known by the locals) has unique collection of Tasmanian and maritime memorabilia. Browse around the bar for the maritime memories including a 7 metre photomural showing every Sydney to Hobart yacht race line honours winner. The English style bar (built by a shipwright) features Tasmanian timbers and the log fires keep it cosy during winter. In summer you can relax in the ambient beer garden.
