Went there with family on a Monday evening. The place was almost full, lucky to get a table, we mentioned to our friendly waitress that we're in a rush to get to airport on time, had some dietary requirements, orders came literally within 5 mins, tasted sooo good, just like KL when we tried mamak street food. Hats off guys,... More

Although Mamak has since opened multiple other restaurants, including one in my home town of Melbourne, this is the original restaurant, and I have to say, it's still the best. The roti is crisp, light and fluffy, the curry is still a bit watery, but full of meat, unlike the Melbourne branch. This place is busy for a reason, and... More

The queue is normally long here but today's lunch time at 12noon was surprisingly short. The food choice is quite limited but they taste really good and the service is very fast. We were in and out by just about half an hour, despite it being full house at that time. If you feel like having great Malaysian food, go... More

We had fish curry which was spice and nice, Satai sticks (photo attached), naan for entree and dessert that takes 20 mins to make. My absolute favourite was the dessert! Portions are generous, and I am an eater! So next time I'd order one meal for two, definitely a naan that they have spot on, and a dessert. Overall, it... More

Our first lunch was at Mamak and it was quite entertaining. Loved watching the Roti’s being made. It was amazing. We ordered the Roti Canai and the Chicken and Beef Satays. The Roti Canai arrived first and it was served two different curry dips and a small bowl of sambal. The roti was amazing…puffy and crips on the outside and... More

I have to say: it's even much more tasty than those I tried in Malaysia! You can't find another Malaysian restaurant better it in the world. Somebody thinks the drink sweet, but I don't think so. Anyway, it's a must-go restaurant in China Town, Sydney.

If you enjoy Malaysian food, you will certainly not be disappointed by this restaurant. Typical Malay food and drinks. Quick and efficient service and reasonable in price. Taste of real Malaysian food.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Tiger-flanked archways on Dixon Street mark the entrance to the “little Asia” of Sydney. A walk through Chinatown is a feast for the senses where aromas, tastes, sounds and visions of dancing tigers transport you to a different world. Chinatown visitors can expect a melting pot of Asian food at the neighbourhood's specialty delis and groceries. From yum cha to handmade noodles, BBQ ducks hanging in the window to Asian sweets and bakeries, there is something for all tastes. Paddy’s Markets is the largest flea market in Sydney where you can find souvenirs, clothing, gifts and fruit and vegetables at unbeatable prices. At night, Chinatown comes alive with entertainment including theatre, nightclubs and bars that are open until the early morning.
