We had lunch here today as part of a large family booking. After initially making the booking and advising the restaurant of having prams and disabled people in our group, we were told the only tables available were upstairs. After 20 minutes of negotiating with the restaurant to accept our business downstairs we went in. Never in my life have... More

We went there for a Yum Cha today using a Groupon voucher. Initially the staff didn't want to honour the voucher as a walk in and no prior booking. This wasn't a good start, and when we were finally seated the staff were put out that we hadn't registered our voucher with them. It went down hill from there. We... More

Never been to China but this restaurant has authentic Chinese cooks and great cuisine. Loved the prawns and always love Chinese vegetables. Very nice atmosphere. Great service and nice people.

We do like our yum cha and this has always been a favourite restaurant of mine from when I lived in Sydney 36 years ago. It is still there, still going strong and a must when I visit Sydney. I have now shared with my husband and it is a favourite with him too. Just delicious yum cha.

We went there for breakfast as they open from 7:30 am and serve yumcha and have a bakery located next to it.Dumplings were good but the stand out was Rice paper rollls with BBQ pork and Pork congee with egg.Service was attentive, quick and friendly. It's located close to Paddys market/Chinatown and nearby bakery shop is famous for Cream puff with... More

This was the perfect place for a 'late night bite.' I had already checked into the hotel at Ultimo (nearby Chinatown) but my guest from Taiwan was on an overdue flight. We found the Emperor's Garden to be just what was needed - a place to have some soup, dim sum and fried rice at 11:00pm, with a little beer... More

Went for dinner after Christmas. We were seated in the upstairs area which was quiet. The food was very good and the prices are reasonable. Typical dishes on offer, nothing surprising or outstanding. The service was cordial and quick, and we were surprised with a lovely fruit platter at the end.

Being in Sydney in December 2016 for a long weekend and staying close to the Paddy's Market the opportunity arose to try out the Emperor's Garden Restaurant. This was the first time we had eaten there and although it is not as prominent as other chines restaurants in China Town, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Tiger-flanked archways on Dixon Street mark the entrance to the “little Asia” of Sydney. A walk through Chinatown is a feast for the senses where aromas, tastes, sounds and visions of dancing tigers transport you to a different world. Chinatown visitors can expect a melting pot of Asian food at the neighbourhood's specialty delis and groceries. From yum cha to handmade noodles, BBQ ducks hanging in the window to Asian sweets and bakeries, there is something for all tastes. Paddy’s Markets is the largest flea market in Sydney where you can find souvenirs, clothing, gifts and fruit and vegetables at unbeatable prices. At night, Chinatown comes alive with entertainment including theatre, nightclubs and bars that are open until the early morning.
