This place has great food and does an great job in such a small space- all the dishes we shared were excellent and although full the setting was very intimate and friendly. Only challenge was sitting in a restaurant on chairs without backs for too long - this is such a trend in Sydney restaurants and for those of us... More

We had an excellent time in this small restaurant. Our welcome was warm, the service was excellent and the food delightful. My daughter is gluten intolerant and this was catered for with a wide variety of options. I look forward to returning when I am next in Sydney

Service is friendly & welcoming & the food is very tasty. It's the first time I've eaten Syrian food so I have to take it that it's very traditional food. Well worth the visit, prices are good. Make a booking but it's totally worth trying this quaint place.

The food is perfect for sharing . Our group choose a number of dishes . The staff were helped with the selection to give a wide variety of taste and flavours. They also made sure each dish had enough for 6 people.(eg we received 6 succulent grilled lambs skewers) My personal favourite was the arr’nabit (traditional fried cauliflower with tahini... More

Almond Bar is like a big embrace from your favourite Auntie from the minute you walk in to the minute you leave. Service is warm, attentive and friendly. The food is unbelievable. I could rave about this place for ages, but in doing so would deny you the time to get on the phone and make a booking. Loved it. Impeccable service, wine list and staff. Very comfortable in letting them call the shots regarding the dishes and order. Just lovely

We opted for the meat banquet which was a good range of dishes and starting with 3 dips and pita. Highlights were the chicken and beef skewers and the crunchy salad that was a bit like a great salad without feta and olives and with crunchy flat bread instead. The cauliflower dish was also really great. Staff were friendly and... More

Fabulous, extraordinary. And more. Everything in this delightful little gem succeeds in pleasing all your senses. Warm and cosy decor, excellent offering and variety of middle eastern dishes. Everyone we tried was delicious, well prepared and presented. Despite being a very busy night the staff were all patient in explaining the dishes and then to help us to understand the... More

Found it difficult to find the restaurant, Google said we were right there but the sign on the building said Royal. The large glass windows need a sign. But...once we got across the road the service was outstanding. The table setting was minimal with a selection of different flavoured almonds. Very enticing. Water was poured with flair from a traditional... More

Birthday dinner for four. Booking made three weeks prior but disappointed as seated next to the door (restaurant was only half full and lots of four person tables free) so cold every time someone came in. I know the idea is to make it look full but this was annoying. Food was good and servings easily shared amongst 4. Drinks... More

Almond Bar is an award winning restaurant operating since 2007. It serves authentic, as well as modern Middle Eastern dishes, delicious cocktails and a diverse range of wines in a very friendly and comfortable environment.

It all started with a dream that owner Carol Salloum had of bringing her family's love of food & people together for all of Sydney to enjoy. She approached her great cook of a sister Sharon and the rest is history.

Carol & Sharon, as well as their two brothers George & Steven, grew up in a traditional Syrian household where hospitality was their life. It started the moment an unexpected guest entered their home. No matter what the circumstances or financial situation of their parents, they taught their children to be hospitable & always welcome those that came to their door. Hospitality is in their blood, not just a job.

The Salloum household regularly had a container filled with mixed nuts - amongst many other snacks - for the visitors that would drop in for a coffee or drink. Each of the four siblings would secretly open the container and eat the almonds until there were none left. All seemed to get away with it & no one ever owned up.

Everyone at Almond Bar has always tried to make all their customers feel at home & experience the passion that they have. The family is always involved and customers have become family too.

Sharon Salloum has produced an International Gourmand Award for Best Cook Book by Female as well as Best Middle Eastern Cook Book. Her passion for her food and culture are evident in her cooking, her classes & the tours she runs for Gourmet Safari.

Carol and Sharon, along with an amazing team are currently working to educate and train Syrian refugees; to find employment for them; and help them feel welcome in the country that they & their family call home.
