Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This restaurant is considered by many in the Modra area to be one of the best in the region. I have now been here 3 times and will not be going back. There are 2 issues. The first one is that, although the staff is...friendly enough, they are often distracted and you will have to wait long for them to service you, even when very few people are present. The second issue, and this is why we won't be going back, is that every single time we went the stock or the sauce was way too salty. The last time we commented on this, asking if a mistake had been made with the green pepper sauce, which was inedible due to it being so salty. After the waitress went to check with the chef, she told us that green pepper is salty and it's supposed to be like that. Rrriiigghhtt.... The previous 2 times the chicken stock was also too salty. This is simply bad cooking, unless you enjoy the sauce equivalent of the dead sea.More

Really had an annoying, disappointing experience here. 1 of the meals (pulled boar) was bad - the meat was either off or had been stored badly but either which way it wasn't edible. I raised this with the waiter after it came, the meal wasn't...eaten but we had to pay for it. To make matters worse, as we are English, they charged us for an extra meal and it was only when my father demanded to see the bill that the waiter "suddenly realised" that he'd charged an extra 14 Euros. The cherry on the top - the waiter laughed at us when we left so just stay away would be my recommendation.More

Modra is a pleasant wine-making town surrounded by vineyards in the scenic "Little Carpathians" of western Slovakia. We spent a fine time here tasting wines in a cellar dating back to 1592, and afterwards walking a few steps over to the Stary Dom's alley-way seating...for a light lunch, including -- of course -- some of the wine we'd just sampled. It's hard to imagine a more charming and relaxing place, with delicious dishes that helped to fuel our continuing journey through this very interesting part of Slovakia. But before resuming our road trip, we strolled through some of the nearby streets and alley-ways to settle a bit and to take in some of the local sights and color. That turned out to be an excellent idea. In one spot we found a big old bench in front of a wall with graffiti on it, even containing a John Lennon quote in English. How cool! Wine and food in a lovely setting, a chance to walk some of it off right in the same neighborhood, on a beautiful day: really, what could be better? If you are wondering, it's pretty easy to get around here because many people speak English, although the courtesy of foreign visitors speaking a few words of Slovak is always appreciated.More

Food was very good: we had pork knuckle and two different game dishes. Game was fine, pork was excellent. Selection of local wines was quite reasonable (wine list has also separate price list for buying bottles to take away), frankovka was quite good. Service was...extremely friendly and efficient. We will come again…More

There is not much to say really.. Food wasn't great but service was quite bad. Waitor rolled eyes when we asked if they have vegetarian food. They also forgot parts of our order a number of times. They didn't make an effort to welcome or...seem hospitable or make themselves available when we needed something. Garden space is very pretty.More

This restaurant is an old winery/wine maker's house in Modra in the heart of Slovakian wine country. The local wines were very good and the food was outstanding. Service was good and the atmosphere very comfortable. Excellent place to stop en route to or from...Cerveny Kamen or other points of interest outside Bratislava.More

First we waited almost 15 minutes for a waiter to come to our table. Then we asked him if he could explain what was on the lunch menu (it was completely in Slovakian language). The waiter refused to translate and said we could order from...the regular menu (more expensive). We decided to try our luck somewhere else. Can’t judge the food, but it looked great (hence the 2**).More

This is beautiful nice old wine house typical for this region. Seating inside or outside as well. I have chosen dish from summer menu. Farm chicken was tasty just peas purée was probably made from peas from conserve and i would prefer more from fresh...or frozen. My wife got salad with mushrooms (hliva) but honestly it was hard to find them :-( finally i give very good as it was ok but not excellent and restaurant looks great.More

Every day, when we came back from trips in the mountains, we got to dinner at the Stary Dom. Snacks, main courses, and of course beer - you can choose something different from the card each time and stay as long as possible, because the...place is conducive to it. And its worth seeing because of all this in the amazing space of the old buildingMore

As always, I had checked tripadvisor while I was lookig for a good lunch. This restaurant had good reviews and I totally agree. You cannot find a price list on webpage but it was not expensive - maybe 10 EUR / person. The atmosphere was...nice. When I will go to Modra, I will visit restaurant once againMore
