Visited for the second time, last weekend with friends and again we were all impressed . We were made welcome by the friendly, polite staff. There was a wide choice on the menu, the service was good and the food was delicious and wholesome, with the most superb naan breads ! The staff were good humoured and attentive throughout our... It was Easter Sunday when myself and a friend fancied something different to the normal roast. We wanted an Indians that had a special menu. The Spice Empire was offering a 4 course meal for £8.95 – starter, curry, rice and dessert. The restaurant itself is quite dated and small in size. As we entered the restaurant there were around... We had Rafi as one of our main waiters and he suggested curries around what we liked ourselves and the one he suggested was gorgeous! Nothing like I've ever had and out other waiter was very genuine and attentive! First time going and will definitely be back!

Thought I would give it a try as I often walk by it to go to the other Indian above the Moti Raj. I wish I hadn't bothered. Its not a patch on the other. The food lacks something. The only thing in here better than the Moti are the staff are less miserable

I've been here twice now both times nearly perfect. The pickle tray alone is worth a visit, a great menu and lovely staff. Could be my new favourite.

The Indian restaurant upstairs called Motiraj is a much better Indian restaurant than this Spice Empire Indian restaurant. The Spice Empire Indian restaurant is a very quite restaurant with only a few tables being used every time we have passed it, but we decided to give the Spice Empire Indian restaurant a go any way. The pickle starter was different... More

Interior is shabby and dated even down to the chairs. Staff are rigid and look like they are in genuine fear of putting a foot wrong. Pints of cobra were nice, curry was okay. Not a patch on the restaurant upstairs - spend your money there instead. Also the pickles you get with the Popadoms are sadly lacking and just... More

Excellent food and very nice staff. Best Indian restaurant in Sunderland. I went there for a dinner with my friends and we're definitely going back again.

I visited this restaurant in January 2017 and food was delicious and staff were likeable and very good. Well done. When I will come back to Sunderland I would like to visit this restaurant again
