We had a late lunch at Grotto del Tiglio; after a wine tasting at neighboring winery Castello di Cantone (a top Ticino wine producer!).
Very personal service. We had a beautiful plate with fish, grilled vegetables and rice; and a fantastic homemade apple cake for desert. The white Merlot was very tasty.
All this at a very fair price.
We highly recommend this Grotto; it’s worth a detour!

This grotto offers a nice space outside, under the big trees which makes it ideal in summer! Inside it is a bit small so better book the table. The food is well prepared and they serve generous portions! Great value for money too. Their signature dish are the classic little fried fish... a cool idea: order one portion with your apertif!

The Grotto del Tiglio was recommended by locals.
Upon arrival, we were immediately given only the menu of the "Mendrisiotto gastronomic review", which includes only 3 typical dishes and recommending the most expensive dish (54CHF).
Not intending to do such a tasting, we asked if it was compulsory or if there was another à la carte menu.
We were told yes with difficulty, saying that there were not many dishes available anyway.
We opted for two first courses (lean ravioli and game pappardelle) that were priced one at 16 the other at 18 CHF on the menu. We also took a liter of mineral water and a glass of red.
The managers were not very welcoming from the moment they realized that we would not do the tasting and spent more than 100 CHF.
At the time of payment, we were presented with a receipt with higher prices than the menu and with slightly different items: first 22CHF, game 20CHF, large mineral 7.5 CHF, glass 5.9 CHF (only correct price), for a total of 55.40 CHF.
Having no intention of fighting, we paid and left.

We went there to enjoy a local food event that spans across multiple restaurants (Rassegna Gastronomica), expecting some decent Covid protection measures. One would assume that on end October 2020 people would know better. Well, it was not the case.
People packed extremely closely to each other: one table with 18 people, another with 14 people. Distance among people at tables probably 60cm, distance across tables not more than 1 m (generously estimated).
Menu cards were the usual cardboard ones that pass from table to table, further increasing the spreading risk.
We should probably have left but at our arrival not all tables were full, so we thought the other tables would have stayed empty and stayed.
Food was pleasant, for that matter, but we could not really enjoy any of that.
