Providing meals to Stoecklin travellers

Wea ate twice on the way from Zurich to Abano and back. Stoecklin transportation firm have probably chosen the venue with much attention. The service is quick since the stop is of 70 minutes. The restaurant provides a uniform menu which is quickly delivered by staff with efficiency but certain indifference. The food is very good and reminds traditional italian home cooking. Besides the Stoecklin customers, the place caters to usual ones as well, on a la carte basis.

Guests for lunch after a business meeting in the area, we had lunch in this place. Very present and pleasant service, simple and local dishes, unfortunately average. Cordon bleu too greasy but homemade, elephant ears, not fantastic, salad unfortunately already dressed, the fries FROZEN!!!! Local 2022 wine of 15 degrees... expensive and too full of sulphites!! Popped in pre hike before hitting Monte Generosa. Nice setup as part of the hotel. Some confusion as we tried to sit outside which the hostess took to mean the sunroom area but we sorted it out. I had the Margherita pizza and my wife had the octopus salad. Hers was the better of the two as it was unique and very tasty. My pizza was good, not great. The crust was nicely done and the fresh Parmesan helped out. Waiter was ok but seemed somewhat putoff with us for spending money there.

After two evenings in Ticino, we were in search of a good pizza and we certainly found it. A cozy and friendly atmosphere, good service, great wine and tasty pizza (dessert too!), and fair prices, the Albergo Ristorante Svizzero fulfilled all of our wishes. We'll certainly come again next time we are in the area!

Great wood-fired pizza--and a nice B&B

We were tired from hiking on Mt. Generoso and took the cog railway from the summit down to Capolago. Happily, Albergo Svizzero is located right across the street from the rail station, so we simply checked in and enjoyed a wood-fired pizza from the most extensive list of pizzas I've ever seen. The restaurant atmosphere was friendly, with a large outdoor patio and many local residents enjoying themselves. The rooms are upstairs, and fairly spartan, but clean, safe, and quiet. The property is located just a block from the Lake Lugano waterfront, and only a 10 minute walk to the oldest preserved Christian site in Switzerland, a 5th century baptistery dedicated to St. John.

Time to write a review! Although the restaurant looks a bit shabby with the plastic-chairs and the huge terrace, it still serves delicious mediterranean food. We had a vitello tonnato, filleto di manzo with potatoes and rucola, risotto and lamb-rips. A delicious merlot rounded the meal. Desserts were pretty classic as well, ice cream and tiramisù. Everything was very neatly prepared, and the waiter did his best to help out with his German when we were stuck with our Italian.

This place looks very ordinary from the road but go in and you are in for a very special surprise. My wife and I spend a week every year in Ticino and never fail to make a detour to this superb restaurant. I think that this year was about our 12th visit and we have never been disappointed. This year I had a seafood soup which was excellent and my wife had a salad which was fresh and tasty. For our mains I had squid and my wife had guinea fowl, both were well presented and delicious. I agree with a previous review that one can get a little carried away and spend more that planned but diners will not be disappointed. I once had swordfish and it was far better than I had previously sampled on the Mediterranean islands.

Overall the service was OK timing wise, but the problem was that I ordered a pizza with carpaccio beef topping and was given ham instead; this wouldn't have been a problem if it had been a genuine error but the waiting staff refused to accept it as ham and swore blind that it was beef- "one thousand percent beef", when they were clearly trying to get away with a cheaper cut. A second pizza was brought, but this was roast beef, not carpaccio or bresaola style beef. A shame, and so unnecessary; the food here was twice the price of that just over the border in Italy.

A very traditional Swiss-Italian restaurant with a wonderful terrace and a nice and quite big place to eat inside too. The most important thing for me was that unlike many other southern Swiss restaurants this one offers for example gluten free pizza or lactose free things- up to your request and a little extra fee. My gluten free tailor-made-vegan pizza was a very satisfying meal and we were served some excellent wine. The service was kind even though I was a difficult customer with many requests.
