There are many facets to Bridgend Hotel, and we experienced three of them on our trip. They supply refrigerated meals to the self-catering lodges at Collaibus, which really hit the spot when we first arrived on the island. Their head chef provides a chef service to the same lodges, which is probably the best food available on Islay. On site... More

The 2 waitresses and their manager were always (on 3 occassions) so welcoming and accomodating to our needs. Each meal was just a breeze to prepare or present and they were so sensitive as to when to give us space or time to eat. Bless you ladies , you were so kind and helpful and it made us loathe to... I ate here one evening whilst staying in the hotel. As ever the staff were very friendly and helpful. There's a reasonable wine list and a good selection of local whisky and gin. The food selection is good and whilst it's not Michelin star quality it's very tasty and well presented. I had scallops for starters which were cooked just... More

On the last day we went to Bridgend Hotel for dinner. Shame on us, going for about 9 years to the island and never were there... but anyway, we forgot to take a reservation. No problem, it is off season and it was possible to took a seat. What should I say. The soup (Cullen skink) was fantastic.. and even... More

We stayed in the Bridgend Hotel for a couple of nights last autumn and really enjoyed the food, so arranged to have dinner in the bar one night while we were self-catering on Islay. The atmosphere was as friendly as before - and we were amazed to be recognised and greeted like old friends, even though it was almost a... More

This pub provides interesting meals from fresh local produce. The staff are warm and friendly and the food was delicious. Bar meals are also available as well as a good wine and whiskey selection.

Thank you for your review. We try and use as much of our own produced meat and game as we can. For other things such shellfish and other seafood we use the very best local products. If we cannot source things from Islay itself we then look to Argyll and the best producers elsewhere in Scotland. By sourcing as close... More

Everything was tasty and inventive, especially the goat cheese cheesecake. Service was great and the hostess very friendly, knowledgeable and hospitable. She started out education about local whiskey. We definitely will be back.

We have eaten at The Bridgend previously and had a lovely lunch so decided to visit in the evening, eating in Katie's bar. Firstly, we were surprised that it was the same menu for lunch and evening meals. Having been seated we were surprised to have to wait 20 minutes before our order was taken. The bar was not busy... We were staying at The Bridgend Hotel, and as I seemed to be driving all the time whilst visiting Islay we decided to eat at the hotel on our last nights stay at this wonderful establishment. We chose to eat in the restaurant, however we could have eaten at the less formal Katie's Bar should we have wished. We came... More

What a delightful review, thank you. The Chef's Cullen Skink is one of my great favourites too. Getting the décor and ambience of a dining room correct, to get the right balance between originality and tradition, and to cater for a range of tastes whilst maintaining an individual style, is no mean feat. I think we are getting it about... More

We were greeted immediately upon our arrival, shown to comfortable seating and served drinks in the lounge. Our order was taken there and, after a short, relaxing time of conversation, we were taken to our table. Our food was served very shortly after we were seated. This way of greeting guests was much appreciated. The food was quite good and... More

Description
Bridgend Hotel is an 11 bedroomed country hotel with a dining room, public lounge (known as 'The Strath') and Katie's Bar which sells food in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The hotel is run by Lorna McKechnie and is owned by Islay Estates. Where possible we use locally sourced food, particularly shellfish and game from the estate. Children are always welcome, as are dogs; there are drying facilities at the rear of the hotel for those caught out in the rain.
