Fabulous traditional village pub, good selection of food and drinks. The beer garden is so nice & quirky, lots of little booths/summer houses spread out in a super sized area. Covid rules all adhered to very clean & safe environment and pet friendly. The surround area...is beautiful stunning views and lovely walks.More

We stayed in the campsite just down the road and it was very convenient to have a pub meters away from us. The staff were really friendly and the outside space is nice but this is where the compliments stop. We booked a table a...few days before and was sat inside. The table hadn't even been cleaned from the previous people with crumbs and sauce everywhere. The floor was covered in food and I felt dirty sitting down on a chair. We moved outside quickly. The drinks and food menus lack variety. I ordered lasagne, which was well overpriced, which came with my own private swimming pool of grease on top and the chips were overcooked and tasted like they had been sat for a while. I had two mouthfuls and had to leave it. I would highly recommend not going here and going down the road to the Royal Oak which was a million times better.More

Stopped here for lunch (booking advisable) after a morning hike! The food was AMAZING! Best home cooked food I’ve had in a pub for a very long time! We had the homemade burger which was delicious, very tasty and the pie of the day which...was gammon, honey and mustard! The chips are homemade home cooked ones and were lovely and crispy on the outside soft and fluffy inside! Would highly recommend stopping here! Not only a pub with amazing food but also a pub with amazing views!More

we had dropped our daughters at Alton Towers for the day and decided to do a circular walk nearby. The Hartington / Pilsbury Castle was an ideal length with a pub half way round and what a find! Great location making the most of the...valley views, lovely little garden huts meant we were dry even on a changeable day. Staff really friendly, excellent service and the food was excellent - my husband had a huge very good quality burger and I had the toasted tortilla wrap - we were still only eating outside last weekend and it was such a lovely change - well doneMore

I paid just under £13 for the burger. It was basically 2 very thin tasteless bits of meat slapped between a huge roll (not toasted) and a little melted cheese. There was a small standard side salad and the chips were fine. Kids meal was...ok. I was shocked that it was so expensive as the quality of food was poor for all except the kids meal (fish goujons and chips). So glad it was under the eat out to help out scheme - 3 people had horrendous indigestion afterwards. We didn't attempt dessert. Wouldn't come back for food! Service was friendly and great views if going for a drink.More

Idyllic location with beautiful beer garden and lovely staff but roast dinner could be better. The potatoes and veg tasted as though they had been lying around a while and the veggie crumble was tasteless. Boyfriend ordered beef roast and thought it was better. The...overall experience was very pleasant though.More

I recently visited the Packhorse and had a fantastic time. The owners, Hannah & Kris, were very warm and welcoming. There is an excellent choice of beers and guest ales combined with great food. I look forward to many return visits. 10/10

The wlcome is still as good as ever, great home cooked food, the new owners have kept the values of the pub in place, with the real ale and beers available and a warm atmosphere, well done !

Visiting with 11 blokes on a walking weekend. What a super pub! Large range of ales, cider and even a locally brewed Czech style pilsner which were all in tip top condition from a landlord who evidently loves and knows how to keep his beer!...Only had sandwiches and a few bowls of chips to eat but the chips were very moreish, real fried chips. Lovely! We could easily have stayed all afternoon but had to reluctantly leave in order to get to Hartington.More

There were locals with dogs in there when we went. I'd suggest giving them a ring to check though.
