Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We ate here because we were staying in the hotel otherwise we would never have picked such a fancy place to eat. Like, they come out with alternate flatware sitting on a plate when you order certain dishes and the space takes you back in...time like you are nobles in your manor house! The view out the windows is stunning, too. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly and there were a few vegetarian options (soup, mushroom ravioli, salad). My mom was extremely impressed with her steak, saying it was the best she had every tasted. Overall, a good experience.More

We ate here both nights during our stay in Doolin. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. There is a small bar separate from the restaurant for a cocktail before/after dinner. I had the duck in orange sauce both nights, it was so amazing. The sides...are served family style and when we were there, it consisted of potatoes three ways (mashed, scalloped, and boiled) and cooked vegetables. The starters and desserts were also very good. It was nice to have something other than pub food at this point during our trip. Obviously it was good as we ate there both nights of our stay in Doolin!More

We stayed for two nights, it's a really beautiful setting above Doolin, with a castle tower in the grounds, and a wildflower meadow. We were off hiking most of the time, only really there for two breakfasts and one dinner. We had the same young...woman as our waitress for all the meals, and she was so good and so lovely despite obviously working all hours. The food was really lovely,- the fresh scones are a nice touch, dinner was really impressive. We thought the whole experience was very good value for money, but kudos to the young staff who are really super.More

It's great to see a menu that presents a problem with choosing what to have! Having finally plumped for the belly pork and then the monkfish, both were interestingly presented and, more importantly, tasted great. This combined with very comfortable surroundings and friendly staff made...for 'A great night out'!More

A lovely family run hotel. Set back from the village of Doolin. Fine dinning in the restaurant is worth every euro. Food was as tasty as it looked. The beauty of this hideaway hotel it has it's own castle and residences can request a private...tour with the owner. Well worth a visit clean and friendly staffMore

We are staying at Ballinalacken Castle for a couple of nights and ate at the restaurant last night. The menu is wonderful and the food was great; I had the lamb and my wife had monkfish. But I thought the restaurant seemed old and dated....It was eerily quiet and struck me as being a bit dull. It was also a little on the pricey side. Tonight we're looking for a livelier place so are heading into town to a pub!More

Exactly how you'd imagine a well kept Irish country side inn. Gorgeous grounds, absolutely lovely employees and owners, the restaurant's food is top notch. The rooms are gorgeous and extremely cozy, it was so nice to come back and warm up with some tea at...the end of the rainy days. Bed was very comfortable. The castle is VERY cool to explore (the owner takes you on a tour and tells you the history-- very interesting). I could have stayed here forever.More

We were fortunate to spend part of our vacation at the Gentian Cottage, a private house associated with the same family that runs the hotel and restaurant. Ann, the owner, gave us a private tour of the castle and explained its history. Visiting and exploring...this authentic castle was the highlight of my trip. If you have the opportunity to stay at this hotel or the Gentian Cottage, don't pass up the chance to visit the Ballinalacken Castle. While my review is based on the castle experience, we did walk through the hotel and it looks like a great (and unique) place to stay and have dinner. The family owners are great and will make you feel right at home. I look forward to a return visit!More

Wonderful food, staff and experience. Try the lamb! The wine list is extensive and prices are very reasonable for the quality.

The owners will make you very welcome and make sure that you want for nothing. Location is a little isolated, being about 5km from Doolln. On site restaurant is excellent.. No ' chips with everything ' here. Great selection of locally sourced meat , fish,...and vegetables. The Irish lamb, and Irish pork were outstanding. Compact and reasonably priced wine list..More
