Food only OK - price gave us something to laugh about. So we visited Glas when we were staying in Doolin in a nearby house while visiting the area. It had been booked in advance and it should be said that it was off season....Glas is part of the Doolin Hotel. There were no prices displayed neither at the entrance of the restaurant nor the menu and at no time did staff explain that we would be charged by the number of courses we chose. When we arrived there were only two other parties eating there - both foreign tourists. There were 8 in the party and the choice on the menu seemed reasonable. We all had starter and main course, two of us also had desert. One carafe of wine. We had two vegetarians in the group and there was only a single option for main course for them. Ultimately was a slice of roasted cauliflower. The food was tasty but no one was blown away by any of the courses. The scallops were nice, slightly over done. The group were generally pleased with the crab salad starter. Pork belly was tasty. The lamb did not stand out for anyone and the creme brûlée, while nice, was thin, and compared to one I'd had at a fish restaurant further up the coast earlier that day was under par. The white wine (Chateau Pequie Blanc) was under chilled. As I said we hadn't been told at the beginning of the meal how the it would be priced - but we figured it would be worth in or around the quality the set up was implying by the venue and menu. We split the bill when it arrived without too much dissection but all commented that for what you got it was generally over priced. It wasn't until afterwards we checked and found that: 2 courses €40 3 courses €45 Assuming that the starters came in at about €15 a head, that meant that the slice of Cauliflower for the vegetarian main course cost €25. Our group we would regularly visit restaurants together of all types, prestige and quality and we have paid far more for meals than at Glas but we all felt that the quality vs price was a joke. I don't really write reviews, but the overall expectation that Glas seemed to promise its customers was so at odds with the actual experience I felt I needed to share. Sorry if I've gotten boring. Cannot recommend.More
