My family and I visited for a meal in early August. We selected a wide variety of options from the extensive tapas menu. Not one disappointed. Delicious food, comfortable surroundings, excellent service. Would highly recommend.

Lovely family run guesthouse, very friendly, clean and well placed in the town close to all amenities. I will definitely go back
We ate here before, and thought some of the dishes were poor, but overall it was ok. This time it was really disappointing, and we won't be returning. A lot of the food seems to be cooked from frozen. The chicken wings were (weirdly) tiny,...and though. The black pudding and prawn was dire. It was flavourless, and the pudding was overcooked. It's not really a tapas restaurant, there's minimal Spanish dishes, and some options are weird. Seems to be popular enough with locals.. I think it's down to the atmosphere, which is cool, lots of parties and people enjoying themselves. I was really willing it to be better. The B&B is average, but we were really put off by being told that check out was at 12 when we were leaving at 5-10 past. It was raining and our car was parked quite a bit away, so we stalled hoping the weather would clear. It seemed unnecessary to comment, we were just a few minutes late.More
Visited here last night for a birthday meal. Highly recommend a meal, the service was excellent and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had 7 dishes and they were all delicious. We were given bruschetta to start and 3 shots to finish...- all on the house. Will definitely be back. The owner is a gentleman and made it his business to come over and chat. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Birr.More
We visited in July. Weather was excellent and Townsend House was well equipped to deal with Covid restrictions. A warm welcome by Martin and Lorraine who could not do enough for us. Central location and excellent accommodation. Only issue it was too hot, a rare...problem in Ireland! We will be back.More
Immediately impressive decor on entry, warm welcome from such friendly staff and owners. Moved us without hesitation when we asked for a change. Confident food and wine recommendations. Every order was delicious and without fault. When the owner says the 2 chefs have been there...for 7 years you know that this is a happy place that take pride in what they do. Highly recommend a visit. We’ll be back for sure.More
Twin room was well furnished, clean and tidy. Breakfast and late snack was delicious . Great location, very near Emmet Square. On street parking paid for by owner. ~Very helpful staff.
Martin and Lorraine are the most wonderful hosts. We booked for 1 night after the lockdown and we enjoyed it so much we booked in for a second night and dinner in the tapas restaurant. Great breakfast both mornings and the family room is fantastic....Adjoining room is perfect for 2 adults 2 kids. Birr is a lovely town to come to. We visited Birr Castle and the Glenbarrow Waterfall loop in the slieve blooms on the way home to Dublin.More
This is a superb restaurant and a surprise little find in Birr. Prices are excellent, service superb and the tapas very good. I would compare them very favourably with Cava in Galway. My only complaint is the music was not really suitable, but outside of...that a little gem!More
Thank you for your review and are delighted that you enjoyed your night in our Tapas Restaurant. We have a different playlist each night and we are sorry that it wasn't to your liking. We will take your comment on board. Regards Martin and Lorraine...More

Best B&B I have ever stayed at, very clean , well worth a visit..can't wait to try out the tapas on my next visit...
Thanks for review,we are delighted you had a great weekend in our guesthouse. Hope to see you soon again.
Visited this restaurant tonight, though the food was nice, though there was a long wait for some dishes, waitress dropped wine over my niece and didn't seem to concerned about it🤤,but my biggest and only real gripe that would stop my going again is that the kitchen...the staff go to with empty dishes, I presume was where washing was done, when the door opened there was a dog in there,May not bother the majority but no no for meMore
Not good and not bad. The portions are big but not culinary. Despite the name the restaurant does not have anything to do with spain. And the hard rock background music spoiled our evening.
Super setting a lovely garden and quaint lounge in the garden. We ate indoors as the weather was poor. Although its not all Spanish tapas the food is delicious. Its along the tapas idea of small portions of dishes. I have been on many occasions...with friends but my husband was always reluctant. Finally I persuaded him to go and he loved it. The service is fantastic food is so tasty and very reasonable. Can be very busy so you would need to book a table.More
When someone told me there was a tapas bar in the town and it has been there a few years I was amazed so of course had to make it our immediate priority to attend. And boy we weren't disappointed, the food was fantastic and...great portions, the spare ribs were to die for, chorizo, meatballs fantastic,And a nice Irish twist clonakilty black pudding with a prawn, all in all it was excellent and you won't be disappointed.More
