Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

FOOD:Sandwich cuts of bread were miserably small. The portion of roughly chopped lettuce on the side was bigger than the sandwich!!! Lettuce looked and tasted awful.... a dollop of something brown on top wasn't balsamic or olive oil or anything recognisable and certainly did not...help the dish in any way. Food portion size quality and presentation were embarrassingly awful. PREMISES: Very dingy, dirty and really badly laid out premises. We were a family if 4 sitting in alcove. The poor couple at the table next to us had to stand up for staff to serve our food as their seat and table blocked the passage way. Not the customers fault, that's the way the space was designed/laid out. Staff weren't even apologetic the customer had to stand up to allow them access our table. Everything felt dirty and unhygienic. The book shelves for customers to swap books is a nice idea, but location of shelves is inaccessible to customers if anyone sitting at the table next to the shelves. SERVICE: Unremarkable, food order was taken promptly as we entered and paid for in full and then served to table by different member of staff. Our first visit to Birr and regretably cannot recommend this cafe.More

I also run a business in town and know that at times it is difficult to keep standards the same. Especially during Covid and with staff shortages. What is appalling is when the business owner reacts, the way Adrian Shine did to me, when the...mistake is on his side, is unacceptable. I asked if they had forgotten my take away order as 5 others who had come in after me, had got theirs and left. When I pointed this out, he refused to fulfil the order I had paid for and asked me to leave. No matter what issues a business has courtesy (we call common, not in this case) is easy to apply. I would advise everyone to avoid this business. He does not deserve your business.More

. Coffee is good. The sandwiches come in small bread sizes and on 1 sandwich was the heel of a loaf. Fillings are small for the prices.

Very friendly and helpful. One of our group was gluten intolerant and they had good option for that. The food was very tasty. Nice sitting outside. Did I say they were friendly? 🙂

Staff completely ignored me, I left after 30min without being served. Dingy place, badly laid out. Staff managed to take an order and serve the guy beside me (plus his dog as we were seated outside) while avoiding making eye contact with me. I was...given the cold shoulder and completely ignored by the waiting staff. The place was not even busy. I won't be going back.More

A wonderful cafe. I had lunch there and I chose a Cajun chicken sandwich with sweetcorn and also a bowl of vegetable soup. Both were amazing. Later in the day I returned for dessert and chose a baileys and tolberone cheesecake which was really delicious....With dessert I had a very tasty latte and I was very happy. I’m back in Birr next week so I’m sure to be back then.More

We came here hoping to get a quick coffee and treat to replenish our energy after a lovely long walk at Birr Castle. Wasn't expecting much. Let me just tell you I was STUNNED by how delicious the latte was. My husband and I also...shared a caramel slice, which I don't normally like because they're usually just dense sugar bricks, but the one was so *fabulously* delicious and perfect that I now think they're my new fav treat!!!! I would absolutely go out of my way to visit this cafe again for another latte and caramel slice. Highly recommended!!!!More

Emma's is a place where you will experience more than coffee and chat, you'll be welcomed with open arms by Adrian and Debbie Shine and their wonderful staff. It's a busy spot and the coffee is forever flowing and the attention given to your order...is second to none. Adrian's knowledge both of the menu and specialised coffee is wonderful and you'll come back time and time again. It's a pleasure to stop off at Emma's and experience a piece of Birr that will stay with you forever.More
