Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

the coffee is fabulous, strong black for me and latte for my friend. We both had a sandwich which was a real treat . Had to finish with a Danish pastry 🥮 It was busy , very little seats vacant but we joined an other table . This restaurant down stairs is small , on the day we were there it appeared a little squashed due to the queue waiting to be served . Staff were good, one young lady appeared to really know what she was doing and had the queue moving quickly . The building it self is quite old and beautiful. We will be back soon next time we will be in Youghal , well worth a visit .

Jess, thank you so much for your lovely review. We are delighted you enjoyed your visit and the coffee, sandwiches, pastry dessert (must be done! 😉) The old Priory building in Youghal is where we got our name! We cant wait to welcome you back soon! 👍😊

As a vegan it isnt easy to find places in small towns with decent options but this café pulled through. I enjoyed avocado toast for brunch and they have loads of vegan desserts to enjoy, along with a good atmosphere and most importantly - amazing coffee. (My non-vegan family also enjoyed their meal!) Only complaint is we were served our meals about 10 mins before the coffee but they were very busy on the day

There are many Priory Coffee Company's, one in every town. This one is in an old building (a priory?) which gives it a bit of extra charm. Coffee was very good, and the cake we had was also delicious. The staff were friendly and the price level is a bit high, but good cofee is expensive everywhere in Ireland.

The place itself is lovely. The outside seating area is fab on the main street . The food portions are very small on the desserts and not worth the money. I found some of the staff rude on this occasion we visited and we wont be returning over this. We struggled to get 2 staff members attention to get something and ended up going inside to get there attention in the end even though they werent that busy when we were there

Called very early morning, probably first customer, nice friendly staff, and service was prompt, got an in-house breakfast and a takeaway breakfast, girl behind the counter was savy enough to only bring out my takeaway when I was almost ready to leave. Breakfast was tasty enough but hey lads whats the story giving a 6'4 inch 17st Paddy Irish man one sausage on a breakfast plate. Coffee not included in either in house or takeaway, paid €24 euro for 1 in-house breakfast and one takeaway bap and 1 Coffee, felt a bit cheated to be honest, maybe their rent is high but in fairness lads an extra sausage on the plate and coffee included won't break the bank. Breakfast was a few streaky bacon, 1 sausage, 1 black pudding, beans, mushrooms and sour dough toast, no coffee €11.50 Takeaway bap with less in it €9 1 latte €3.50 Total €24 In my opinion breakfast should have had at least 2 sausages and coffee included and should have cost about €10 each. Left the place still hungry, won't be calling again. Only giving a poor review based on portion size and value for money

Breakfast was disappointing. I am pretty sure the smashed avocado wasn't freshly made, it tasted like that awful stuff you get from a tube. And the hollandaise wasn't fresh either. Considering the price we paid it was very poor quality. I did see other people have a full Irish and that looked fresh. I wouldn't return to eat but the coffee was very good.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent visit to Priory in Youghal. I can confirm that our avocado, hollandaise sauce, etc is made fresh in-house every day. Please could you express your concerns or wishes directly to our staff in future so that they can assist and/or provide an alternative if you wish. Thank you and kind regards

We got takeaway as we were leaving that day, the kids got croissant and a fresh pastry (custard tart?) which the loved so much. Coffee was fresh and lovely, I also got a black pudding pastry for himself which was beautifully presented in a box with salad and relish...so he had to share. Wish we had bought more of them! Highly recommend!

We visited for lunch and were so impressed we went back the next day for breakfast! A really nice menu. Recommend the House Breakfast Blaa, a local soft white break with bacon, sausage and egg. Nice interior and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Felt safe with their covid-19 precautions. Will definitely return.

Stopped off at the priory on my way to kinsale today. Myself and my partner went to the till to order. We asked if they done Frappchinos and the lady Jemma advised me they dont so we stepped back to view the rest of the menu. We decided we wanted Iced lattes and walked back over to order as the till was clear of anyone- as I did she told me step back that she was in the middle of an order and I stepped back as I did the man ordering walked back and said no you were here first go ahead I said thank you and said my order '2 iced vanilla lattes please? Jemma said I told you I'm in the middle of an order. Shocked and totally embarrassed I stepped back and she said 'look at him at the fridge' in a compelte angry voice. I said no problem and when he left I asked again and she said oh we have no ice and sniggered at me?why hasnt she told me this when I first asked and no one was standing there. Never again I was never so embarrassed or let down at the behaviour of a employee. It's a shame as the one we have went to in youghal and cork city have wonderful staff who are very friendly.

Have had fantastic coffee here several times. This morning decided to go for breakfast. All three of us had eggs Benedict. And by Jove, were they good! Superb, in fact. They came with crispy streaky bacon on sourdough toast and topped with Hollandaise sauce. Absolutely wonderful! Back tomorrow to try some other delicacies. But those eggs will take some beating!

Recently had lunch and coffee which could not be faulted. However, very frustrated and anxious over 3 members of staff not wearing their masks correctly. Our waitress had her mask down below her nose. The waitress that took our payment had removed it completely from her face, and we met another waitress coming up the stairs with her mask below her mouth. This is simply unacceptable in these current times with covid 19 on the rise, daily. For this reason, I cannot recommend visiting this establishment due to customer safety being compromised and not taken seriously.

Staff not wearing masks correctly, incredibly slow service and a customer was allowed in the shop without wearing a mask. Not good enough given the current Covid 19 situation. Won't be returning

Visited this spot for lunch. The toasted sandwich served on sourdough is amazing! Popular spot which is a good sign. Indoor and outdoor seating. Staff were nice but pretty busy. Maybe management could employ more at busy times to help out...

When I last visited, in November 2021, I complimented the coffee and pastry but complained that the cafe was cold because the door was wide open and had no spring loaded closer. I’ve just returned and, hallelujah, the door now has a closer. Thus, I enjoyed my excellent coffee and pastry In warm and draught free comfort!

We visited this lovely coffee shop twice over a weekend. Unfortunately it needs to take much better care about adhering to the required COVID-19 regulations. The door should be left open so visitors do not have to open it. The perspex barrier at the till is strangely enough not in FRONT of the till, but beside it. Hence no protection between staff and customer. We never saw tables being sanitised and were not asked for contact details on first visit. Perhaps it was just a bad weekend or there were other reasons, but small changes could make a big difference to what is essentially a very nice place with lovely staff.
