Myself & a group of friends visited this restaurant recently but we were disappointed by the service & delay we received. We all ordered drinks on our arrival at the bar & as we were seated ordered our mains. Several times we had to ask...More

Between this and linnanes I’d prefer monks now. Linnanes has become too busy and overpriced whereas monks is better portions of good seafood and cheaper. When we were there there was a young traditional music band which played a good session

Having been to Monks many times over the last decades, I was looking forward to the usual fresh seafood extravaganza. We were to be very disappointed. The mussels (always our main and most discussed dish) used to be huge and juicy. Now they are tiny,...More

This was lovely. Good quality homemade food without too much fuss. Gorgeous prawns and crab claws; a wider variety of fish would be good but what was on offer was really tasty. Very family-friendly and welcoming staff.

We stopped in for lunch and had some great seafood, my wife got the smoked salmon with brown bread and I the fish and chips. They were the best fish and chips I had in Ireland.

Visited Monks twice on a busy Saturday evening. The Guinness wasn't particularly good but nevertheless, as customers over many years, we decided to return later for dinner. When we arrived, no tables were available (which was fine) but the offhand manner in which were dealt...More

At Monks we have a special love for the sea and you can taste it in every delicious mouthful of our authentic, traditional food – lovingly prepared with only the freshest and finest, locally-produced ingredients. And it’s all paired with the picture-postcard prettiness, harbour charm and welcoming country comfort that is the beautiful old fishing port of Ballyvaughan – pearl of the Burren.
