Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We phoned and booked outdoor dining for the following evening understanding that it was covered but was outdoor. When we arrived we found a large area fully covered in with only one small door open for ventilation. An indoor restaurant would have had windows opened thus more ventilation! Also the waiter who greeted us and served us did not wear a mask although other servers did. Despite food being good, our evening was not enjoyable as did not feel safe .

Called in today and was met at the door by a very friendly chap. I heard others call him Frank. He showed us to our freshly sanitized table and he explained the extra steps taken by the management to ensure our safety. We both just had the soup of the day with a lovely fresh roll and stayed warm while Lough Swilly crashed outsite. The man I took to be the manager came over and chatted to us and we were made feel our custom was appreciated. We're driving near there on Sunday and we both decided that we would make a detour for Sunday lunch as the food that flowed from the kitchen looked delicious. I really enjoyed the experience and most importantly we both felt safe. It was just like the old times. Can see how you could ever go wrong in this place. Pleasant, relaxed atmosphere and a real Donegal welcome.

Six of us booked in for 8 on Saturday. We were met at the door by a very friendly girl who told us her name was Katie. After explaining the Covid procedures she showed us to our table and informed us that the specials for this evening were salmon and scampi and chicken noodle bowl. The food was excellent and the staff were faultless. The pints of creamy Guinness weren't bad either! As we left we tried to book for the following Saturday at the same time. Unfortunately they were booked but to be honest we weren't surprised. We left our number in case of cancellation. Come on Katie!

We had a table booked and on arrival were allocated one just opposite the very noisy bar. A couple came in at the same time as us and hadn't booked yet they were given a window table with a view, away from the busy bar area, (they must have been locals!) The waitress serving made it look like it was a real chore to be working there. There was no pleasantness as she showed us to our table and when she returned to the table with our drinks she almost threw them down without a word. I actually found it amusing that she could behave like that and when she brought the food down to us (which was okay), I looked at my husband and laughed 'catch'! The waitress heard me and just smirked and walked away. The Beachcomber itself is not the cleanest and we could not wait to finish our meal and get out. I should say that there was one girl who took our payment at the end who seemed to be the only one doing anything that evening and was pleasant as we were leaving!! If you are looking for a nice relaxing meal out this is definitely NOT the place to go.

Wouldn't serve food unless booked in the COVERED seated area.! . (which had loads of spare tables for the 2 hours I was there)) Was a beautiful sunny day Although if u knew the wait staff/servers u could get food in the non covered area(2 foot away from where I was sitting.)All outdoors so can't see what the problem was. The amount of people turned away inside the 2 hours I was there was absolutely crazy. Bad management. Took the ferry over especially for something to eat. Won't be back again. Before anyone says anything about booking tables I tried to book the day before but the phone wasn't working the day before or the morning of so how u even supposed to book a table with the phone lines turned off?

A large family group called in here for an hour as our ferry back to Buncrana was postponed . We just had coffees and a plate of chips.Service was friendly and we agreed that they were the best chips ever so crisp and tasty. We met friends who were having a meal there and they said it was wonderful .It was very busy .Great views onto the sea .We'll come back for a meal sometime.

We sat outside on the terrace which had great views over Lough Swilly. Our table was well distanced from other tables. We ordered a variety of dishes - the chowder was lovely and full of fish, the beef stroganoff was lovely too. We ordered chicken burgers which where just ok, the fish and chips portion was very small. The table near us seemed to get double the portion that we where served. Staff pleasant and helpful.

Called ahead to see if they could seat our group of 15 people, and they were very accomodating, and we arrived to see two reserved tables set up for us. Service was friendly and efficient and the selection of food was excellent. Several first-timers loved the Guinness, and I appreciated a couple of pints of Scraggy Bay on draught. A good, solid local pub with great food and a wonderful view of Lough Swilly. Highly recommended.

Booked 2 tables for 8pm for the football this evening, i was then told as we arrived that our tables had been "booked for 6pm-8pm" which was false in every sense of the word . Im totally disgusted with the way we were treated. After being pushed out of the restaurant we were then told to sit in the rain outside where once we ordered food it arrived late, cold and hairy! Although some staff were helpful and polite, other seems to lack basic manors and compentence. Will not be back.

Booked a table for a group of us last Sunday night. We were seated in the outdoor area, service was good, no complaints about the food, I had fish and chips and a few pints of Guinness... Guinness scored 7/10..

Visiting this gem of a coastal town with lots of history we decided to drop in for lunch. Good menu and friendly staff greeted us and we were seated in the covered outdoors with a great view of the bay. Have to say had the best seafood chowder EVER!! Was like a meal in itself and tasted so good. You will not regret a visit to this great pub. It made out day !!

Affordable food that was surprisingly tasty! Beer battered fish and delicious fries. Veggie in the group happy with his noodles. Setting is a little rough around the edges but very relaxed, which was perfect with three kids in tow. None of them left a scrap behind. We felt like we were sitting on a boat cause our table was right next to the water. The staff were lovely too.

We had a lovely lunch of seafood chowder and soup. The chowder was packed with fish and I was well impressed. We also had dinner of beef and chicken burgers which were good. Try to get a table by the window with a fantastic view of Lough Swilly.

Always visit the beachcomber when in Rathmullan and never had a bad meal yet. The service is friendly and staff are taking all the necessary covid precautions. The only thing that could maybe be updated is the toilets but none the less the location is lovely and the food very tasty and decent portions!
