About
Modern dining in a distinctly Irish gastropub. Serving Brunch, Lunch, Dinner everyday from 10.30am. We cook from scratch and focus on local, seasonal ingredients of high quality, organic wherever possible. Working directly with local farmers and artisan producers, Mikey Ryan’s offers its local and visiting guests a true ‘Taste of Tipperary’. Set back from the road, and in a typical Irish small town street-scape, we are proudly positioned overlooking the Plaza, with the Rock of Cashel as our backdrop. The narrow terraced building has enjoyed a colourful history. Legend has it that the original hops plant used to make Guinness came from the garden and the back of the building was once home to a snuff factory. Best-known as a public house and grocer, Mikey’s also has a culinary tradition and to this day locals can remember queuing to buy ham over the counter.

Disappointing. Waited 40 mins for 2 main courses, a burger and hake.Burger arrived without a menu listed element, which was provided once I asked the waitress. Hake was a very small portion for 24 euro and the dish was very forgettable, apart from the hunger which was still left after eating it. Overall poor experience. Servers very pleasant but doesn't make up for other shortcomings.

My daughter and I had a late (8.30pm ) dinner here mid-week. I feel it is over-priced for what it provides and the service is mixed. Our waiter was very friendly and efficient but a waitress plonked a drink on our table as she was rushing past. Surprised the glass did not break! There is really no vegetarian food but the waiter got the chef to prepare friend cauliflower. She was satisfied with it (two slices) but such a dish has little no protein. Also, it was over-priced. I had a starter portion of monkfish tempura and it was very good but also over-priced.

It is a nice restaurant operated by The Cashel Palace Hotel, a short walk through the garden. Lots of fresh herbs are growing., which is always a good sign for great cuisine.
The reason for three stars and not four:
The arrival experience could have been better; I am unsure if it was because we entered from the street entry vs the hotel route.
The server lacked knowledge of what was on tap or what was regional.
The chicken breast was served cut in half long ways. Was the chicken breast cut to check for doneness? This resulted in drying out the breast, which should have been juicy and flavourful.
We learned from the hotel bartender after our dinner that there was live music on Monday nights, but the restaurant staff did not inform us.

To celebrate my sister's graduation, I made a reservation for 10 people for a Saturday night. We were offered their Glass Well area, which is advertised as a "special setting for experiencing what Mikey Ryan’s Bar & Kitchen does best - beautifully curated dishes using the very best local and seasonal produce, accompanied by an exciting menu of drinks and exceptional service." When booking, we were also informed that there would be a minimum spend of €500.
Unfortunately, we had a very poor experience!
When you are asked to pay a minimum spend of €500 - you expect a high standard of food and service and we did not receive either.
After arriving, it took 30 minutes for our drinks order to arrive. We received our starters after another 20 minutes. These were mostly tasty (scallops, insalata di zuchinnni, soup, bao buns). Unfortunately, the monkfish tempura was overcooked. We then waited another 30 minutes after our starter for our mains to arrive. Most of the group had ordered chicken supreme, which was mediocre, lukewarm and lacking vegetables. One person had ordered a burger which was fine. Another person had ordered the black sole on the bone, which was described as overcooked and lacklustre. Two of the party had ordered salmon. This was delayed in arriving. After 10 minutes, a staff member arrived to say that there was a mix up in the kitchen and it would be another few minutes. After another 10 minutes, the salmon arrived. As we cut into it, they were both completely raw in the middle. As we were out in the glass well, we had to wait until a server returned to ask them to return it to the kitchen. The waitress asked did we want to return it to the kitchen - of course we did! Another staff member (presumably a supervisor) returned to apologise and offered us another option from the menu or to wait for the salmon. We were also informed that we would not be charged for the salmon. We preferred to wait for the salmon so after another 20-25 minutes, the salmon arrived. Of course, all of the other guests had finished their main courses at this stage.
When we had finished our mains, we were offered desserts. It took another 20 minutes for the dessert menus to be brought out to us. At this stage, we had been seated for 3 hours. We declined to order desserts and instead asked for the bill. Low and behold the salmon was on the bill and we had to ask again for it to be removed.
Overall, the experience was a huge let down of an evening with poor food and poor service - long wait times and it felt as if we were forgotten about being located in the glass well.
We will not be returning to Mikey Ryans.

We visited with a 2 year old & had no booking for a late lunch. Despite 3 or so free tables of 4 -6 available we were informed they were booked out. We were directed to the bar, which operated a 1 way system for incoming patrons to the resturant. After being seated we were informed there was no high chair available for our child, but would recieve one asap, We eventually received our drinks order and placed our food order from the limited menu. The servers didn’t quite know what was with or without on the menu or what sides could be ordered.
We ended up playing safe with 2 x €20 beef burgers & triple cooked chips. This is exactly what arrived bun burger onion ring and small bowl of chips, nothing else on the plate, no lettuce, coleslaw or the sauce we ordered. How on earth this venue has recently won a food award is beyond me, service 1 * price point 1* for what you receive. We won’t be back to a presumptuous over priced disaster zone. By the way being seated in the start of the one way system we noticed nobody could have taken the 3 tables mentioned earlier.
Really disappointed, we had tried Feehans which is excellent bar food location close by but was full, with Que for a good reason always on the ball, we decided to try Mickey Ryan’s sure live and learn 2nd bad experience there sorry won’t be back

The family occasion was spoilt by unsuitable location for seating on a winters night, terrible service, food not up to standard and three hours for starters and mains. This location was not up to the standard expected from the rave reviews of some of the supposed experts and the fare is definitely not worth the prices being charged. We will definitely not be going back or recommending this location to our friends

We visited today for lunch but were so disappointed. Our starters were nice however our mains were not satisfactory. .
The chicken arrived cold and when sent back to the kitchen came back covered in a huge amount of too salty gravy. The beef was thin and only ok, the Yorkshire pudding was huge and not palatable.
My hake was luke warm but too oily and the potatoes were over done.
When paying the bill my Mam advised of our dissatisfaction but she felt that noone was in charge who would pass our comments to the chef.
The wait staff were attentive and friendly and have no fault with service however having visited you many times for special occasions I no longer feel that Mikey Ryan's is special like it used to be.
We would like to visit again however I feel your restaurants reputation is failing.

We regularly treat our elderly mother to lunch here, and she likes to have a tea and scone in the bar herself beforehand. On this occasion Sunday 20 August she asked for tea and scone and was told by one of the bar staff that because it was Sunday they might not have any scones, she asked him to check but he came back with only tea and no scone. She was therefore incredulous when 10 minutes later 2 travel industry-heads sat down in the bar beside her and were immediately lavished with scones, jam and cream. Seems this establishment has one level of service for VIP pals and another for mug paying punters. Lunch on this occasion was poor also, fish (plaice) not properly cooked, the chicken seems a better bet here.

Friendly wait staff but the food is ridiculously overpriced for the quality. I’ve been here a few times and while I thought it was expensive my experience of the food to date was reasonable. On this occasion I called in for lunch as I was in the area.I had a starter of black pudding croquettes which was fine but expensive at €12.50. I then had a burger and chips - the chips were soggy and inedible while the burger was greasy and not great. With a large sparkling water, a glass of Sauvignon and an espresso (€3.60!) the bill was over €50. I’d have got better quality in the local chipper. I complained about the chips and the surly manager took off the sparkling water. She apologised but her tone was far from apologetic. If I come back, it will be for takeaway coffee only, which they do well. Disappointing.

Decided to eat out last night. Having paid 38.95 for a fillet steak and asking for it to be medium cooked it was served rare. I told the waitress when she arrived back at the end of the meal to tell the chef it was raw she didn't return with an answer. I left half of it. Completely overpriced for what we got. My wife's Risotto was practically all peas. Dessert disappointing.

We booked this restaurant on our nights stay in Cashel in July 2021. We were a family of 7 and had seen good reviews on the website.
From the moment we walked in on time for our booking we were left standing at the front entrance for about 20 mins while other people walked in by us to be seated.
We found the staff quite rude and up themselves, the girl that served us was quite nice but only because she was studding to be a school teacher and has something in common with us. The food was so over priced for what we got and we were waiting nearly an hour for our main meal.
On the way out after paying we over heard one of the staff laughing and saying to other 'bet you wont go far on their tip' not even knowing what we had left, although we should have left nothing.
I have never experienced the way we felt in a restaurant before, it was a disgrace!

We had eaten some lunch here 1 or 2 years ago and that experience made us think "must go back". We stayed in Cashel for a few days recently and our dinner at Mikey Ryan's was a high point. Sophisticated food with a light touch . . letting flavours speak for themselves. We were particularly impressed with the wine list which offers lots of well chosen wines at fairly average prices. The evening was really made by the wonderful team of young people who provided such great service, relaxed but professional and attentive. A definite "must" for us when next staying in Cashel

Met a group of friends for lunch ( 2 travelled from Dublin, 2 from Cork and 1 from Wexford) , we had a lunch reservation, we waited for our starters for 30 mins and only 4 out of 5 were served, after waiting 10 mins we followed up only to be told there was a mix up and they hadn't put through the 5th starter to the kitchen..this 5th starter came 20 mins after the rest! We alarmingly witnessed one of the female servers pick some food from a plate whilst waiting at the kitchen service area ( knowingly wrong as her colleague took a glance around to see if anyone saw!!).
Portion sizes were small for the prices.
We probably won't choose this restaurant again for a meetup which is disappointing as it is a handy location for us!

Heidi at the Rockville House (where we stayed) recommended dinner here which is a just a short walk to this pretty little downtown. At 1 PM made reservations in person for 6PM on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. Returned a little early, but we were seated within 10 minutes. This is a beautiful restaurant with both indoor and outdoor dining. We were seated inside and received spectacular service. We started with glasses of fine rioja red wine from Spain and Monkfish Scampi - deep fried and paired with Wild Garlic Mayo, Chilis and Fennel. Delicious! My wife had the Potato Gratin Pie - paired with Bleu Cheese, Mushroom, Wild Garlic and Carrot Puree. I ordered the Slow Cooked Pork Belly - plated with Gubbeen Chorizo, Greens, Apple Puree, Gratin Potato and Red Wine Jus. All was prepared nicely and very savory. For dessert we shared their Citrus Creme Brulee with Gin Marinated Strawberries. Very nice finish.
I also ordered a Quinta De La Rosa Port from 2013 which I sipped and enjoyed the taste on my tongue. While we enjoyed our meal, we met Mrs. Davern of Cashel who had the table next to us. We chatted about our experiences, and she offered to buy us drinks, but we declined since we were already inebriated adequately. This was a wonderful evening out. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Cashel.

Mikey Ryan's is The Cashel Palace's casual dining option and given its physically separate location and its own entrance off of the high street also functions effectively as a standalone restaurant. As one would expect, the menu is full of crowd pleasers making it a bit of a challenge not to order one of everything from the menu!
Everything that we tasted was cleanly presented and perfectly executed. The sauces well made, the meat properly rested and cooked accurately. There is a great focus on using high quality produce here too, just because it's casual dining doesn't mean that there's any step down in terms of the raw ingredients and care that go into the dishes. Even the creme brulee for dessert was perfectly executed with a crisp top and perfectly smooth cream beneath it.
The service was friendly and efficient too. This is everything that one wants casual dining to be - comfort food, made well, using local produce. It's hard to ask for anything more!
