Had the pleasure of having dinner here for my birthday. When we arrived at the venue we were amazed by the beautiful sunset on the lake that is overlooked by the restaurant. The building is well located on the water with booths located beside the windows. We were presented with a tasting menu which included 3 starters, amuse bouchée.... sharing choice of pasta dish, choice of 3 main courses and there also was specials available for starter and main. Service was excellent and presentation fantastic. Each dish was prepared to perfection. There was a large selection of buffet deserts with accompanying wine at an extra charge. Wine list was sophisticated and well thought out with wines ranging from e30 euro up. Highly recommend and look forward to returning.

Have been wanting to come here for a long time so was delighted to finally get the chance recently. We secured a booking at short notice and were told we could come early and enjoy a drink at the bar beforehand. The setting right on the lake is beautiful with gorgeous views from all points of the hotel. We were given our menus and ordered in the bar and then when our table was ready we were escorted through to the restaurant. The window booths are beautiful with both the stunning views and privacy from other diners. The service from beginning to end was top class, all your needs were anticipated without being too in your face. My favorite part of the meal was the lamb cutlet main course, melt in your mouth meat and nicely presented. They very kindly recognized we were celebrating a special occasion with a personalized desert plate. A great experience that we will definitely repeat in the future.

First visit, very impressed by the location, room, the staff and service was spot on. Sorry but I dropped one point for our last evening meal, the ribeye steak was not of a good quality, we informed the waitress and got a sorry about that also give the breakfast waitress a note pad, memorising the order didn't quite work, we counted up 6 issues, which could have been totally avoided by writing down the order. In saying that we will be back as it was very relaxing and enjoyable break.

I booked Wineport Lodge tasting menu for a treat while we were in Athlone for a night. They emailed back and confirmed by email our booking with the subject of said email being “tasting menu booking”.... I said I would drive and my partner could enjoy the wine pairings. We arrived to the restaurant and we were welcomed and seated. When handed our menu after our drinks order I noticed it was A La Carte and queried the tasting menu to which I was told was not on that evening. I’m sorry now but if someone specifically requested a booking for a tasting menu and this was not possible a phone call would have been appreciated as it was the sole purpose of our visit. The menu was small which is understandable giving the current climate and the food was good but only good. I was not asked how I would like my lamb cooked and overheard the couple next store being asked. We were not told about specials either, this was overheard at another table while we were eating our mains. Really disappointed with the evening overall after really looking forward to it.

Myself and my husband Alan came here for a birthday celebration and we weren’t disappointed. From the moment we arrived we were made feel very welcome and were greeted by a member of staff and walked to the bar where we had a fab lunch with spectacular Views. The food was tasty and served in an efficient and friendly manner. One area worth mentioning was the phenomenal pint of Guinness. My husband was reluctant to order Guinness from a hotel bar this early but he was blown away by the quality of the pint. We learned afterwards that the bar had invested in a new cooling system and this has obviously paid off. Well done to Brendan O’Shea the bar manager for initiating this investment as it has paid off and my husband is still raving about the quality of the Guinness and says he will come back just for the pints. We also made use of the hot-tub again with spectacular views and the staff were lovely and made us feel very safe! Overall our experience staying here was second to none and we we will definitely be back!

Arrived about 4pm and were lucky to get a nice spot looking out on the picturesque lough. Its a fine establishment in a fabulous location. Its has had some recent renovations inside and out and they all appear very smart and luxurious. Staff were very friendly and table service was excellent. We ordered the Chicken Chiabata and some fries and some kraft beer. The Chiabata was OK. The bread was a bit stodgey and might have been nicer if it was lighty toasted and filled with a chargrilled chicken fillet. All in all a very pleasant experience and l will recommend to others.

Friendly staff however the food was a major let down. Seafood showder was cold due to the fish being added in cold or frozen. Calamari was bland although sauce helped. Chicken ciabatta wasn’t edible - so bland / batter tasted of stale oil. Second time coming here not planning again Beautiful place, nice staff but food a terrible let down

I enjoyed a meal at Wineport Lodge recently. After a busy time doing house upgrades, I sat outside in a glasshouse with a nice glass of white wine, relaxed and enjoyed the tranquil setting beside Lough Ree. Owner Ray, manager Norma and the friendly staff made me feel welcome. The place looks fabulous as it was recently refurbished. I went inside to the restaurant to have a main course. It was spacious and I had my own booth, with a view of the lake, while the sun was setting. The food was nicely presented and tasty. I enjoyed the roast monkfish with basil orzo, broad beans, celeriac and lemongrass foam with some white wine. Afterwards I got to chill out beside a homely, toasty wood fire. I selected a nice, botanical Irish Gin with Fever-tree tonic from the drinks menu. There is a Lakeshore Lounge that is separate from the restaurant and a number of other distinct areas to social distance in. From a Covid perspective, which has changed the hospitality industry, I like to follow the rules so I wore a mask when moving around e.g. from outdoors to my table and also sanitized. There is a handy device for checking your temperature at the entrance. I enjoyed my experience. Thanks to the chefs and staff for a memorable evening.

I booked Afternoon Tea at the Wineport for my sister's birthday and it was definitely an amazing experience. Firstly when I booked it I was asked if it was a special occasion which I thought was really nice. We were seated in the area with a stunning view of the lake. The table was laid beautifully and they had some birthday decorations on the table as well as a sign saying happy birthday to my sister which I thought was so special. I had asked that one portion of afternoon tea be served without ham/bacon as my sister is Muslim and they double checked this again before bringing out our order. When they brought the afternoon tea it had a sparkler on top which was a lovely touch. My sister felt very special. The afternoon tea itself was delicious and we enjoyed everything. Amazing experience and would definitely recommend to others.

Here on Saturday for a dinner booking for 6 persons. It was superb from start to finish. Into the amazing new bar for a pre dinner drink. The Guinness is class btw and the others enjoyed a selection of craft gins. Service was very friendly and efficient and Covid safe. Into the restaurant then and a lovely table setting. Kash our waiter was friendly, funny and very polite as indeed were all the staff. I had the prawn starter which was amazing, fresh and beautifully presented and generously portioned. Burger mains was also extremely tasty as were the great steaks had by a few of us. Happy faces all round. Full marks as always .. Thanks Jane, Norma, Kash... and all the staff. We can’t wait to get back.

From the moment we arrived till the moment of departure we were treated like royalty in a warm friendly way. Had we asked for the moon I'm sure they would have had a lasso on standby. The lodge is a pure sanctuary of beauty, peace and harmony. I can't say enough about this place, from the complimentary glass of prosecco to the indulgent chocolate bar and just in case you fancied something savoury a complimentary packet of keoghs crisps. The meal was out of this world. We thoroughly enjoyed our one night's stay in our incredible room with breathtaking view s of the Lake. I can't recommend The Wine Port Lodge enough.

This is one of the most relaxing hotels you’ll find in Ireland. The hospitality is genuinely welcoming and kind. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful, they know their menu, the local area, places of interest and are happy to chat and recommend what might be of interest. The food is lovely as are the rooms. Even the art in the corridors is nice! Can’t wait to go back

The soup chowder had the viscosity of water, the fish was still frozen in the middle and the ribs were neither marinated or slow cooked ( my dog liked them though). Outside of this there seems to be a total lack of communication between the married couple owners and a sense of resting on the laurels of the place being on TV.- thats a bad mistake and is not sustainable. I have spent too much time now on this review....do yourself a favour and avoid.

Recently paid a visit to the Wineport Lodge Restaurant in Athlone. Literally none of the staff were wearing face coverings. Tables were being served both in the outdoor and indoor seating areas. Very disappointing- no regard for their customers especially the most vulnerable

We were'nt encouraged when we were told that the dinner menu was also served in the bar. And so it turned out. The short dinner menu was basically a barfood menu, the sort of thing where you "grab a bite" rather than relaxing over a culinary adventure. A pretty boring selection (roast chicken, steak, steak, steak, burger, fish'n'chips etc). I suspect that like many restaurants, they are struggling to find chefs, and this menu struck me as one that was pared back to simple basics. That would have been forgivable if the food itself was great, but unfortunately, it was actually pretty poor. We take one or two short breaks every month, in 4 or 5 star hotels, and I have to say that the standard of food in Ireland is now really good. But this was not a restaurant that I would be rushing back to. Sad, because the hotel is absolutely wonderful. The staff are amazing, and nothing would give me more pleasure than to encourage people to stay there. Frankly, I feel a bit deflated writing this review, and I really truly hope that no-one in Wineport Lodge takes offence, because they are all the loveliest people you could ever wish to meet.
