Having seen the great reviews we tried the restaurant for lunch., which is located in a nice part of Athlone near the river. We had a table in the very nice front area by the large windows. The soup was leak and potato, which was...a bit unadventurous, although it tasted fine; the accompanying focacia was very thick and bland (unsure why other reviewers liked it so much). The goats cheese crostini was good (the cheese itself truly delicious), although the tomato in the salad part was unripe and tasteless. The hake goujons were very good - the accompanying fried potato disks were fine but a bit boring, and the salad, again, was pretty bland (with very unappetizing tomato). The chicken goujons (child portion) were decent, and generous. Service was very good and attentive. Overall, although the food had some very good aspects, it was a bit disappointing nonetheless, especially given the many good reviews on here. Certainly, very good service, but the restaurant is let down by a lack of attention to detail with some parts of the dishes.More

A great little lunch stop near Sean’s bar. Friendly service, good food, clean restrooms. Hamburgers, friend Brie and soup were delicious!

A family member chose this place for a lunch as we were having a family catch up, it was a fantastic choice, the menu wasn’t huge but with the added specials board, there was certainly something for everyone. My cousin tells me it’s run by...two ladies, not sure if they were in shop floor today, the service was impeccable, and the food second to none. We hadn’t seen each other for ages and at no point did we feel rushed, we ordered, ate, stayed for coffee and chatted for ages. I went here with 3 adults and 4 children. It was delicious the food was lovely and kept us extremely full. One of the members wanted to get a meal that there was none left of they were very apologetic and very respectful. Would definitely...visit again.More

First time in this restaurant went for 2 course early bird big portions fab food and great attentive Staff.

So accommodating us with Mom in a wheelchair set the tone for an amazing lunch! The soup of carrot, coconut, ginger and touch of cayenne produced the perfect bite for my palette. Hubby raves this was one of the best burgers of his life. The...Hake was mild and fresh accompanied with a homemade tarter and amazingly crispy chips. The tandoori chicken was tender and moist with a flavor profile that stole the show. I have to even rave about the light and refreshing dressing that made the side salads on the plate just dance in your mouth! Nice wine and craft selection. We have had a "usual spot" for dinner when we pass through town. We thought we should try something new and The Left Bank was a find. First let me say I believe there is a difference between a very good place to eat and...a fine restaurant, and it doesn't have to do with table cloths. Management. Its when you get a reservation on the quarter hour and you find ut when you arrive that a very large groupe has been served, and 15 minutes after you order anothere large group comes in. You won't be stuck waiting for your meal. Well done! The food was super. Cocktails, firsts, mains, and wine. And the servers were friendly, efficient, and kept an eye on the entire floor with out being intrusive. Awsome! Thank you, The Left Bank, we will be back.More
