We booked Hatters Lane for a meal out for a group of 20 hens last weekend. From first contact with the restaurant they were incredibly friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, and we were allocated a private dining room. We arrived last Saturday night and we found the venue, food, ambiance and most importantly staff absolutely exceptional. The venue itself is gorgeous, really well decorated and spacious. The private room upstairs is really lovely, with its own private bar, and open fire. The food is absolutely gorgeous, I went with the chicken wings for starter, chicken fajitas for main, and the lovely brown bread ice cream for desert. Everyone raved about the food, every single dish was tasty, very generous portion sizes, and arrived in a very timely manner. We also felt that it was very reasonable priced for the quality and quantity of food we got. And the staff. What can I say, probably one of the friendliest and most helpful group of restaurant staff I have come across, nothing was too much trouble, they were so helpful with order suggestions, swift with drinks order, and made the bill splitting at the end a breeze. We also never felt rushed and were told there was no panic on us, the room was ours for the night. The main staff member, apologies but I didn’t get his name, was such a nice guy, so friendly and just generally made everything so easy, a complete professional. Our meal at Hatters Lane was the highlight of the hen, and I would seriously recommend other hen groups, and just generally anyone looking for a gorgeous meal in a fab restaurant with friendly staff to pay them a visit, you certainly wont be disappointed.

We were going to have dinner at nearby Thyme, but it was closed. So across to Hatters´ Lane. Spectacularly good! Very friendly and attentive staff, and very nice decor. Three adults had fish (one salmon, one halibut, one hake)' I had the hake, it was excellent with very nice vegetables and chips. One adult had fajitas, which were very tasty. One child was with us, and she had fish and chips - it was made from proper fresh cod. Desserts were excellent too - I sampled a very nice toblerone cheesecake. A great meal, I´m glad Thyme was closed! We´ll definitely go again.

This was my second time visiting with my family. After lockdown the food is just as good, as is the service. I had surf and turf, which consisted of some very tasty whitefish and a perfectly cooked ribeye steak, plus very nice chips. My parents and wife all went for the salmon, though each of them asked for a different variation on the accompaniment (which was to be a spicy couscous - I personally would have stuck with that). The changes were no problem at all. My daughter had pasta with tomato sauce, which she thoroughly enjoyed. My parents had apple crumble for dessert which was great. My daughter had iceccream. Once again, stongly recommended!

The website oversells the place - different menu and facilities, we were told this was temporary so I advise double-checking before booking. 6 of us were placed around a table fit for 4 people, so not a lot of elbow room. A full drink was accidently knocked over 10 minutes after we arrived, the staff were nice & quick to clean up but there was no mention of replacing the drink; so a replacement was ordered. When getting the bill, it was charged for. I enquired about the spilled drink when paying and was told by the manager "Do you realise what I've done for you? " in a condescending, arrogant tone. We were not asking for 'favours'. He had discounted the bill a little as 3 of the 6 dishes ordered were either misrepresented on the menu or of poor quality. So the 2/5 rating is for the friendly staff and the chef put together a vegan dish for me which was lovely.

Arrived at hatters Lane for my fiancé's birthday dinner, asked what drinks we wanted and I asked for a cocktail to be told they don't serve cocktails on Sundays (not sure why and no mention on menu). Ordered our food, starters were good, ordered chicken supreme for dinner. It came out looking beautiful, crispy onions on top, lovely carrots etc, only for my fiance noticed there was pesto and balsamic vinegar dressing on the plate. I unfortunately have a nut allergy and pesto generally contains pine nuts. Asked the waiter who confirmed it did have nuts and apologised and said it should mention this on the menu (he's right, and he was lovely and this was not his fault). The kitchen remade the dinner and I asked for no dressing. What came out was horrible, as if the kitchen was giving me the middle finger for having a nut allergy and the fact they had to remake the dinner. Very poorly presented looked nothing like before, missing half the veg, and no joke, a half a bottle of balsamic vinegar on the side. Could taste nothing but the stuff! Fiance ate his dinner first then I had to eat mine separately so the experience was completely ruined. My fiance was also waiting 10 mins for a pint to come. After all that, no offer for a free drink or anything. Will not be going back and should you have a nut allergy, please be wary and request no pesto dressing.. Allergies are not something to be messed with!

When we checked out Hatter’s online it advertised gastro pub menu and an al le carts menu, so we booked for a special celebration with friends. When we arrived we were given the Gastro pub menu and when we asked for the al le carts menu we were told they didn’t have one. The had a good selection of starters and they were nice, I had the breaded Brie, which was okay but cold… I had the beer battered cod for mains which I had to send back as the batter wasn’t cooked, the chips and the mushy peas were cold. Overall very disappointed as online advertisement for al le carts very misleading and the food was not good even for pub grub. The prices were very expensive for bad pub grub. On a positive note the waiting staff were very friendly and helpful and helped and helped make the night a total disaster.

Staff are amazing but the food was very disappointing. We all had starters. The pill pil prawns were tasteless, the chicken wings were OK and the brie also OK. I had Thai green curry which was the worst I had ever have ever had. The chicken burger was burnt on the outside and tasteless. The fajitas were tasty but you could feel the grittiness of the seasoning in your mouth.

This gem of a restaurant is the place to go to when you're visiting Athlone. We were out for a celebration meal. What I can say is we have never felt more welcomed anywhere else. Its lovely to feel wanted in an establishment. From the moment we were greeted at the door by Manageress Katrina. The staff are outstanding and we never had to look for anything as they were on the ball and knew exactly what they were doing. We started our evening off with the most delicious cocktails. The food was delicious and very very tasty. we had a selection of starters, mains and desserts and we all shared so we could try some of everything. It was the best idea we had. We would of licked our plates if we knew nobody was looking. I believe this restaurant and Gerties bar is under new management and owners and by god they know what they're doing. We had the pleasure of meeting the new owner Peter, who was very nice and friendly and ensured we wanted for nothing. The staff are very friendly and you can see how well they get along and communicate together. At the end of the night when the restaurant was closing & we didn't want to go home the Manageress Katrina suggested about moving upstairs to the bar and she reserved a table for us. The little touches from the staff made a big difference to our night and I would just like to let them know they're doing a fantastic job. Keep up the good work. Great service and very tasty food. We look forward to returning during the summer again.

From the minute my husband and I walked in we were greeted with a warm welcoming smile and pleasant conversation. The decor is warm and cosy with a definate movie theme. Both had brie for starters which was delicious. The fish and chips were fabulous, light flaky batter. However the show stealer was my husbands vegetable and coconut curry with chicken, oh my! Needless to say my chips were dipped in his curry sauce. Definately a must visit when in Athlone. We will be back.

went with my fiance and daughter. food wasn't bad but wasn't great either. food is towards the expensive side for what it is, so not great value for money. the person serving us was not rude, but not exactly friendly either. that's why overall I'm giving this review an average score. i wouldn't be saying stay away, but I also wouldn't be rushing back.

We had dinner in Hatters Lane last night and everything was amazing. The food was delicious and very well presented. The staff were friendly and efficient. The surroundings were very comfortable and cosy. One of the nicest places I have visited. We highly recommend Hatters and definitely Gertie Brown's for a drink after our delicious food. Keep up the good work management and staff.

My husband and I went for dinner in the pub. We were greater by lovely friendly staff all female. I ordered fillet steak well done. It was rare when it came out I'd to send it back. When it returned there I noticed it had fat on it. I told the male staff member and said I wouldn't be paying for it he said I would. He then returned abruptly told me he wasn't taking it off the bill . I said I worked as a chef and that wasn't a fillet steak. He said oh ya where are you working. I was mortified and nearly burst out crying. All of the tables around us heard this. He said that's from higher up its not been taken off the bill. I asked to speak to the higher up. He went off and came back ages later slapped the receipt on counter saying its off the bill. Cash or card he was shaking with anger. He said no more. Unfortunately that's how staff are being trained no a days to argue with customers. It's a pity because it used to be a lovely place to go. The food is off a low standard that's not worth visiting.

My family had a meal in Hatters lane last weekend and we had the prawn pil pil, Brie, Bangers and mash and fajitas and I have to say it was extremely tasty. The atmosphere and staff were both amazing which made the meal even better. A shout out to Katrina (Manager) for taking care of us all. Keep up the great work and we cant wait to return to this gem of a restaurant.

Absolutely beautiful restaurant. Made Valentine’s meal very special. Staff could not be more friendly and helpful. Tall, blonde girl couldn’t do enough for us. Didn’t get her name unfortunately. Food overall was amazing. We had the wings and brie to start, curry and pasta for mains, cheesecake and profiteroles for dessert. Everything was amazing, found the curry a little bland but everything else was perfect.
