Stopped in for lunch, tried some beef stew. Very tasty. Service was quick. Not sure what else to say to satisfy TripAdvisor's arbitrary minimum.
Had such a great time with a group of girlfriends at this restaurant. We dined in the evening, we had no reservation made and the staff gladly accommodated us. We were amazed with the friendliness of the staff that greeted us as we had heard...reports that this may not have been a restaurant to visit but we said we would give it a try.. Little did we know ITS UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT!! the food was delicious. We all had 3 courses and the food was just to die for from start to finish! From the way it was presented to the taste we all could not fault it! I had the most amazing steak cooked to my liking and I'm usually picky with my steak but this was just fantastic! I highly recommend if you're in Athlone and looking for hearty food to drop by Portside.. it's a must in itself to visit as it's just beside Sean's Bar! IDEAL!! Can't wait to return again in march for more delicious food and great craic!! Best of luck to all the new management and staff! a brilliant restaurant that athlone was crying out for!More
Amazing food great service !!! Slightly overpriced but overall enjoyed my experience will be back !!!
What a shame. A new restaurant I Athlone that we’d heard good things about. Our arrival was promising, lovely decor and very friendly staff...in fact the service was faultless throughout. Our starters were excellent...mussels in particular were really tasty. Then it went downhill rapidly. 3...out 4 of us had sirloin. And all three of said the same thing. Came out cold (even plates were cold) and the steaks were very chewy and tough. The fourth member of our group had a nice chicken dish but again she said it was cold. In fairness our friendly waiter took our criticism positively and comped us dessert and coffees, which was nice gesture. Unfortunately the desserts were also a disappointment, bland and nothing special. My double espresso was cold. A disappointing meal. I doubt we’ll be back.More
I recently visited this restaurant for sunday lunch. On approach to it the outside looked lovely, clean and welcoming. They had a menu on wall which had some what of a selection but still there was one or two that tickled my tastebuds, so we...went inside. The decor inside was lovely, clean and temperature was nice. The waitress was lovely polite and very well experienced and made us feel very welcome. We ordered from menu, different from one outside. We both had soup which was fabulous. I had the Brie for mains with chips, salad which was made up of wilted lettuce and a tomato. The brie was nice. My husband had bacon and cabbage. Not very nice was the worst ever. The bacon came in form of a chop, one big thick slice with bone, not very nice. A teaspoon of cabbage and I mean a teaspoon and watery potatoes. For the price of it this was very bad. We did say it to the waitress. So we said we go for dessert, another disappointment. I had chocolate fudge cake with ice cream I asked for it heated, which it did come, but came with a very very very cold what I can say a glorified chocolate sauce, I had to leave it was not nice. My husband had eton mess and what a mess all it was was raspberry and cream. When leaving we said it to the other lady at till she was not very customer friendly and never really apologised for it, we just paid and left. I definitely will not be back and will warn people too.More
Arrived with no reservation on new years eve with 8 people and we were seated no fuss. Lovely friendly couple served us and delivered food efficiently. Everyone happy and food was tasty and plenty of it , restaurant is a little welcome surprise attached to...Seans pub the smallest pub in Ireland, you can enter it through the pub or around the corner through its own front. Definitely worth a visit and will return on our next visit.More
Nice decor, friendly and helpful staff. Food was good . Brie stater was nice. Salmon was good but a little oily. Staff were very helpful I would go back here
Recently had a fabulous 3 course meal in Portside. Prawn cocktail absolutely delicious, as was the Salmon main course. Beautiful chocolate brownie to finish. Fabulous fresh tasty food. Great service and decor. Will definitely return again soon x
We found the place and thought, let's give it a try. Amazing steak, sides and irish deep fried Brie...to be honest, 5star staff and a great place to enjoy diner if you're un Athlone.
Great place to enjoy a celebration. Decor lovely and the service is equally pleasant. The food was served up efficiently and courteously. They are off to a great start of a new restaurant. Well done.
We went into Sean’s Public House and was directed through the pack to this beautiful modern cafe run in conjunction with them We both had mussels and they were excellent as was the service and surroundings
We visited Portside last Friday night. Found staff very courteous and efficient. Menu is great for fussy eaters and non fussy alike. Food arrived quickly , was well presented and really tasty. Coffee great. Nice decor. Will be visiting again very soon.
We stopped at this little place on the banks of the River Shannon. Our food was tasty, properly done and efficiently served.
The Portside is a new restaurant that is an extension of Sean's Bar. We found out about it when we asked at Sean's if they served food and they showed us through their beer garden to the Portside. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting and...the food was great. I had the fish and chips and my friend a chicken sandwich. Very good lunchMore
