All reviews seafood casserole mezze platter malteser cheesecake turkish sausage poached pear confit lamb penne filo pastry prawns caesar salad ice cream the river highly recommend this restaurant hen party beautiful restaurant last night
We had booked this restaurant as a surprise for my mam’s 60th birthday. Arrived early and the waitress was very accommodating, helping us to set up the balloons and took the cake and candles into the kitchen. We had a great table with a fantastic...view of the river. Early bird menu was very reasonable at €30 for a three course meal. Selection and quality of food was excellent. The staff pulled a blinder, they brought out the cake and sang happy birthday and even put a candle in my mams dessert which was a nice touch. Staff were friendly, looked after us very well and engaged with my 4 year old niece. Could not recommend this restaurant enough, definitely would go back!More
We had a great night in Bacchus, on arrival (sorry to say I didn't get the guys name) we were shown to our table by a very friendly guy. Michelle and Louise looked after our table and were so welcoming and friendly. There was a...mix up on our order and when we brought it to their attention Michelle was to the rescue to arrange the correct meal without making us feel like complainers. All our food was absolutely gorgeous and we would love to go back!More

Visited here on a Tuesday evening , expecting it to be quiet . We we wrong ! On a Tuesday night this beautiful restaurant was hopping , nearly every table full . We were met at the door by a super friendly staff member and...were asked to go and have a drink and come back in 40 mins and they would have a table available for us. When we returned we had a perfect table overlooking the water and we were given menus and our drinks promptly . We told our waitress that we were looking for a nice crisp white wine and she recommended a Spanish Albariño that hit the spot . Then the food experience began . Under recommendation we ordered the prawns and calamari starter and the black pudding croquettes . Both fantastic, but it was the mains that were the star of the show . My guest ordered the Tbone , never before have I seen a Tbone so big.. A real foodies fantasy . The Tbone was served with skewered prawns cooked to perfection and he choose the garlic butter and peri peri as an accompaniment. For my mains I had the seafood casserole . When the menu was explained we were told this dish is all about the fish . Chunks of salmon and Cod , nestled among it prawns ,calamari and mussels cooked gently to seal in the natural flavour of the fish and finished with tomato and just a dash of cream and topped with a breadcrumb gratin .. This dish was the star of the show .
We finished our meal with a crispy sweet baklava and two complimentary Turkish coffees. We could not find a single fault . Beautiful location, buzzing atmosphere , staff who you felt loved their job and who really wanted you to enjoy your experience in Bacchus .
Top class .. We will return .More
Came here after seeing it being the number 1 reviewed place in Athlone on Tripadvisor.
I have never been so underwhelmed by food in my entire life. Got the turkish sausage and chicken tikka as starters. Cheap garlic bread with no flavor, the egg was...completely overdone and the chicken was more or less a basic caesar salad. The mains were completely tasteless and boring. The desserts were nice but how can you go wrong with malteser cheesecake!
Overall, I cannot understand all of these excellent reviews for such a basic restaurant. Overall I would give it a 3 out of 10.
