Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were a party of 8 and staff in the bar area, both before and after the meal, were pleasant and attentive. In the restaurant area the staff member who dealt with us was unsmiling and abrupt when asked about the menu. Duck pate was...lovely, especially with the toasted brioche but Kalamari was tough and unappealing. Two of the party had the Special - Grilled 5 fish medley, which was 5 pieces of fish , some overcooked, and put on a plate. No consideration given to presentation. Surely the chefs can do better than that. Dove sole was good but mashed potato had been ordered instead of chips and waiter had to be asked to bring this halfway through the course. Two of us had coffee at the end of the meal and the wrong ones were brought and had to be changed! We had not eaten at Aqua since 2019 and were very disappointed by the experience and the drop in standards.More

Group of eight friends having dinner on a Sunday evening. Restaurant is in a great location at the end of the west pier in Howth and it provides great views of the coastline and Ireland’s Eye. Cosy small bar for pre-dinner drinks and cocktails -...very good bartender and great drinks. Good offering of Starters and Mains. Prices a bit steep with Mains running up to 50 euros. We had a good mix including steak, sole, turbot, fish n chips, all very good. Wine list is ample for most palattes, again a bit pricey. All in all a very enjoyable evening, almost worthy of five stars. I knocked it down since the staff could be a bit more friendly.More

Best oysters we’ve had in Ireland so far! Fresh & juicy! However the mussels were very small but the sauce was tasty. The seafood chowder and the pan fried red mullet were ok. Total bill plus a bottle of superb French white wine was €108.

I wanted to try their seafood restaurant but full house. They took me downstairs to their coffee shop with short menu. Fish and chips is not my favorite and I preferred pan fried. The waitress is very nice to ask the kitchen if they can...make a seafood dish for coffee shop. Eventually I’ve the catch of the day. The fish is very fresh. It would be great if they could add something not deep fried in the short menu.More

Shhh, Howth is easy to get to by train from Dublin. Aqua is easy to find at the end of the pier. And Aqua is easy to love. Location in the old harbour Master's Office with modern viewing windows over harbour and the bays superb....Decor and space for diners: perfect. Service: friendly, professional and sensitive. Impressive. A lively scene - and we were there for the early bird!!! This place is popular so book ahead. Food? I loved the oysters: fresh, well shucked with things to add if you wanted. We did one early bird and one a la carte with Prosecco to celebrate and a rather nice decent white wine to share - very well priced and good quality. The early bird is superb value and the sea trout for fish of today with that was excellent.. A la carte it was John Dory - again excellent. Cheese = Irish cheeses - two of the three were excellent, one was surprisingly underwhelming - a huge surprise when you think of the wonderful cheeses to choose from. Overall - superb. An absolute first class place - please get that cheese board totallly top notch!!!!More

Hope it was just a bad night. Booked online , hoping for an earlier table, but only 9pm available. But on arrival only 3 other tables in use.Had to return our starter of prawns- very good- but all had digestive tract intact. Waiter inquired if...we’d asked for deveined? ? Not in my many yrs experience, a requirement of customers. Calamari very average, and patatas bravas grim -hours old potatoes deep fried. Bread served with small patties of butter, like a take out/ cafe not a proper night time restaurant, and not commensurate with the price tag. As restaurant emptied , we only beginning our meal. So Friday night out with relaxed atmosphere, it was not, as we only ones there and felt guilty keeping staff. Aqua has had its day in this current iteration, sadly it wasn’t ours.More

Would have given this 5 stars if the portion sizes were bigger, I went for scampi and chips which was delicious but very underwhelming number of chips (maybe 5 on my plate!). The dessert was incredible and the staff were extremely attentive and quick. The...venue even let us store our luggage so we could go for a walk around the cliff tops before our flight.More

A lovely evening started early with a recommendation to have an aperitif as the sun went down over the bay. The choice and quality of food on the menu was excellent . The presentation was beautiful and the service was attentive and friendly . We...were on our first trip to Ireland and stayed in Dublin. Howth is short car journey or an easy short train ride out of the city with a regular service well into the evening( great if you fancy a drink or two !). Would strongly recommend for beautiful walks and with restaurants like this to finish the day a different pace to the city centre and a highlight of our short stay.More

This restaurant’s location is excellent and the view from our window table was lovely. However, I did not like climbing the steep, squeaking stairs to reach the restaurant. Unfortunately, our server had a very strong accent and the surrounding noise level added to our difficulty...in communicating with him. He was cognizant enough to realize this so he asked another server to replace him. The seafood was acceptable. This restaurant will not be on my list to visit again if I have an opportunity to go to Ireland again.More

We have been patrons of aqua for many years. During the lockdowns we hadn’t eaten out for a long time. We went two weeks before Xmas with friends and we were shocked at how much the standard had slipped in terms of quality of food...and service. It was so embarrassing for us as we had recommended the restaurant for our friends birthday as she’d never been. It was a total disaster! The service was appalling , the waiter either couldn’t understand English or pretended he couldn’t understand us. We were left waiting ages for our drinks to arrive. The food was okay when it did eventually arrive however when the bill came it was wrong. They had added desserts which we didn’t have, we pointed this out to the waiter who struggled to understand us?! we paid the substantial bill nearly 400 euro and left however the next day we realized the waiter had taken an extra tip of 25 euro which none of us had authorized! Horrendous experience, avoid. There are much nicer places in Howth where you will have honest wait staff and nice food.More

My other half wanted sea food so ended up here. We went for the sea food chowder and hot mixed sea food for starters.the hot mixed seafood was amazing and fairly big in size. We got steak and prawns as main courses and were happy...enough with them. Skinny fries too go too. Overall happy enough with our visitMore

All three in our party had nothing but good things to say. Food was delicious. Service was excellent. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the wine is overpriced.
