Too few of these shop and pub combinations still exist in Ireland, but thankfully MaCcarthy's is still going great guns. In the family for generations, the...current owner's father was a World War 2 decorated veteran. The place consists of a 'snug', shop and bar, while at night they all join forces to become 'the bar'.. It's as cosmopolitan as you are likely to get here, with plenty of 'craic' on the menu. What an amazing pub - still has the old convenience store feel to it - buy a pint and a bag of sugar or some spam or a pair of tights?? Are you confused. Call in for a drink and you'll see what I mean!

Really lovely pub! Great character & atmosphere. Toby (dog) provides a lovely welcome. They've a great selection of drinks. I'll be back to try out the food menu in the near future

I called there recently specifically to enjoy their seafood chowder and brown bread as I had enjoyed it there about 3 years ago. I was really disappointed. The chowder consisted of farmed salmon and smoked fish, served in what could be best described as hot...milky water. It lacked any real flavour. The brown bread was clearly shop bought. Such a pity in the busiest fishing port in Ireland that this easy to make soup, should have been so bad. The restroom was filthy.More

Love this bar, I go to it every time I go home. Staff are welcoming, and the drinks are good. You can pick up shopping whilst you are having a drink. Very cosy and traditional bar.

This pub was highly recommend my folks we met in Killaloe and it was certainly worth the stop. The bar keep's father was. WWII POW and was recognized by his Japanese captors for his honor with a katana (very high honor). We stopped in for some drinks and a sandwich. The atmosphere was great fun with lots of activity and patrons. The fresh crab sandwich was really fresh and tasty. A great place for a drink and a snack.
