As anyone who reads my reviews knows I do not give credit unless it’s due. Having dined out for seven nights in four different locations including Westport, Galway, Letterfrack and tonight Clifden, Marconi gets the award as “excellent “. First of all the dining experience including ambience, service, staffing and reception were all superb. This was a frenetic night in the kitchen yet the plating, presentation and table delivery was perfect. The food quality matched its presentation. Vegetarian Lasagne and Hake were the two main courses. 100% top quality. Well done all. If you appreciate good quality food that’s different to your normal hotel fare, this is for you. Pricing is highly competitive. Many others in the ever complaining Irish hospitality industry could learn from the Marconi approach!

Just up in clifden for a couple of days , just chanced walking in off street last night , place doesn’t look amazing from the outside but don’t be put off . The food is absolutely fantastic, and I think very good value for money .
very big portions of great food served by great , friendly attentive staff , I had big bowl of local mussels to start that would nearly be main course size , to follow I had a large plate of piping hot monkfish in a light curry broth , absolutely beautiful it was . it’s just a great place that’s not up it self that lets the food speak for itself .

Visited here with our family of six on our first night in Clifden, the dinner and outdoor dining area were so good we rebooked it for a further two nights. There is plenty of choice on the menu, the staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was excellent. One of the nicest outdoor dining areas we have found. Thanks to all the staff for looking after us.

Visited Marconi's for dinner last evening. Good use of face masks and shields by staff and cleaning of menus after use.
Overall the food was acceptable. However the service was not up to scratch. Ten minutes after the mains were served we still had not received the vegetables and I had to flag down our server to point this out. When dessert time arrived I ordered a pint of Guinness, this never appeared. The server didn't notice this until the table was being cleared. Didn't appeared too bothered about it and blamed the bar staff.
Plenty of alternatives in Clifden.

T. his is the popular hotel restaurant in the Foyles hotel in Clifden. The restaurant is large and offers no fewer than three seatings per evening, which sounds a little excessive. The menu is extensive and the food is decent enough. The fish cake starter was fine, the fish main slightly overcooked, an experience I had in several restaurants in the area. The wine list is - well - soso. service is by well-meaning and charming students on a summer job, which explains how the occasional dish ordered lands at the wrong table....

Excellent meal, place was busy which is always a good sign! Could have done with some additional staff waiting tables but the service was still excellent. The food was delicious, very generous portion sizes and quick service, not rushed though which was good. The duck deserves a special mention, very tender with lots of flavor. The hake was a very large fillet with great flavor and the monkfish curry was also delicious. All in all a great evening

First is the lovely welcome from the staff, who then see you to your table with its starched white linen tablecloths and proper decent sized linen napkins & a lit pillar candle. None of this bare table & paper towel minimalism here so you know you're about to have a marvelous treat. There is a cosy Intimacy about the restaurant, not at all claustrophobic even though every table is occupied.
Swift attention from the lovely staff, for drinks & then freshly baked artisan, multi flavoured breads arrive discreetly. The wine list is extensive with so many good reds! I had the steak which was simply perfect. Vegetables are seasonal & fresh and there are countless offers of replenishment.
This is our favourite place to eat as a family.
The quality, the experience never varies it is consistently excellent.
Thank you so much Foyles/Marconi ... we will most definitely return to visit again.
Did I mention the pear tart/tatin! ... oh my ... sooo good! 🥰😍

Firstly the staff were efficient and very friendly and indeed from the barman to the waitress everyone made us feel like we were special.
We ordered Mussels and Portobello Mushrooms to start, both were very nice,
However the stand out main courses were excellent, a Rib eye Steak and the Sea bass, served with a selection of vegetables.
A request for a portion of chips was speedily delivered.
Our conversation was regularly distracted by the food and our favorable comments on each other’s meal.
Together with 2 beers and 2 wine our bill was €95. Definitely to be recommended.

We had a family dinner here and the food was delicious. We had pate, goats cheese tart, duck spring rolls, salmon and crab roulade, mussels, flat cap mushrooms and the prawns for starters, all of which were delicious. The mains were lamb shank, rack of lamb, sirloin steak, chicken and the monkfish and there were plenty of chips, potatoes and veg. The lava cake was the only slight letdown in the desserts but overall an excellent meal with a lovely relaxed atmosphere.

Marconi's Restaurant in Foyle's Hotel is a very good choice for an evening meal in Clifden. it was very busy when we arrived on a Thurs night, but we were shown to our table immediately, and our order was taken shortly after. Starters and mains were very good, the service was excellent, and overall it was very good value.
Clifden is not blessed with many good value plus good food dining options, Foyle's is one of if not the best of them.

We had a fantastic dinner here during our stay in Clifden. The menu was great, there was something for everyone on it. The staff were absolutely fantastic, they were all so pleasant and helpful. The service was excellent too. The food was delicious, particularly the mussels they were amazing! Of all the outdoor dining experiences I’ve had this is the best one, they seem to have adapted extremely well. We will definitely be back next time we are in Clifden.

We had not been out for a meal in 4 months due to Covid 19 and were a little nervous about going into a busy restaurant. We needn't have worried. All the correct safety measures were in force and we felt perfectly relaxed in the hotel and restaurant. The staff were fantastic. Really attentive. We couldn't fault the service in any way. The food was gorgeous. Even the bread basket, with it's amazing and original flavours was beautiful. It was tempting to have more which was offered more than once. The starters and mains were beautifully presented and tasted lovely. Good portions with more sides than we expected. Puddings were delicious as was the Irish coffee. Can't fault this restaurant at all and delighted that our first meal out in a while was here. Highly recommend a visit here.

It was convenient to eat at Marconi's restaurant when we arrived late in the day to stay at Foyle's Hotel, Clifden on the west coast of County Galway. The restaurant had a comfortable, busy and relaxed atmosphere with local memorabilia of local history around the walls. The menu offered a variety of seafood or meat dishes, with vegetarian and gluten free options. The food was so good that we ate there for the duration of our stay instead of sampling other establishments in the town. Many of the diners appeared to be local people and known to the staff, adding to the conviviality. Breakfast was included for guests and was also excellent. We enjoyed good, tasty and satisfying meals with interesting sauces, served by friendly, professional staff.

Dined here with a family group on a Thursday evening.
Very nice atmosphere and staff friendly and efficient.
Food was of a high quality with the starter of roasted goats cheese tart and mains of rack of lamb a big hit.
Highly recommend this restaurant.

If you go to Marconi’s, ask to sit in the Garden room - it adds hugely in terms of atmosphere and ambiance. The food in this restaurant is truly excellent and you will not leave hungry. Great ingredients, cooked well and served with a smile. Made for two great nights out.
