Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Although we visited off peak season on a winter's night we were made feel welcome from the barman Cian. We enjoyed an evening with locals trying all the Gin and Whiskey you could think of. Cian was very knowledgeable and friendly. Must visit if you are visiting!

Fabulous traditional bar, full of character. Dark wood and lacquered ceiling see the tone and glass cabinets with sundries from yesteryear add to the old world feel. As one would expect an excellent pint of Guinness is served (as is a great toasted sandwich !)

This is possibly one of the most welcmong traditional, immaculate pubs in Ireland. Maybe it was a bad day for her, but despite the immense charm of the design, the ruddest blonde haired barmaid called bridget actually spent 45 minutes on her phone as she chucked back our change and toasted sandwiches! Er, excuse me, I've done bar work and waited tables so I know ignorant, difficult customers. But I've never ever come across a pushy rude ignorant member of staff in my life. It's a great place, just don't go there if bridget is working!

Hi Paul, thanks for your review and your very kind words about the welcoming and immaculate nature of the pub. We are very sorry to hear that your visit and the level of engagement with one of our team was not 100% satisfactory, as we would pride ourselves on the high level of customer service and friendliness of the team here in Lowry's.
I can promise you that your negative experience was certainly not at all a typical representation of the individual involved who is a hugely valued, immensely popular, friendly, good natured and extremely professional/capable individual and part of the team here. Thanks for the feedback and do please call again sometime as i would be very confident that your previous negative customer experience was a one off and very much an exception as opposed to the norm. We look forward to hopefully seeing you again soon.

Lowry's Bar is an institution in Clifden. It is the favorite watering hole of the locals, and also popular with tourists. It was voted best traditional pub in Ireland a few years ago. The pint of Guinness is reasonably priced at €5.40. There's also a good selection of Irish malts. For TV retransmission of major sporting events , it can get very crowded - I was there during an Ireland-England rugby game....

Amazing interior. The atmosphere almost jumps out at you. A massive collection of artifacts photos, posters and signs. Sunday evening has fantastic Irish music from 7 till 9pm. They sing non-stop. The beer's not bad either.

We came here because they were one of the only places with live music on the weekday night we were staying in Clifden. It was a slow night but the band was pretty good, playing American classic rock tunes. The bartenders were friendly. It's definitely a place you go to for beer or whiskey, not anything fancier than that. I made the mistake of ordering a Moscow Mule. Next time I'll stick to beer or hard cider.

A fun time in a loud, noisy bar! There were tons of people, but everyone seemed to fit someplace. There were a few little kids dancing g and having a good time, and the two guys who were playing the music seemed to be having fun as well. The Whiskey Sour drinks were good too!

We popped in here for a sneaky pint on a damp Tuesday evening in January! The place looked quiet from outside but inside it was humming. I note that this pub was voted the Best Traditional Bar in Ireland in 2015, 2018 and 2019 and I can see why. It hardly needs my recommendation! Nevertheless, it has a lovely atmosphere and delivers a great pint! Go visit!

A friend recommended this pub as we were staying in Clifden for a few nights midweek. We went for the first time on a Tuesday night not expecting much. However, it is a beautiful old Irish bar with lots of character and lovely staff. There was live music which was brilliant and we went back again the next night.

Very old pub all in wood with little light almost in dim light. Friendly staff .. we stopped x a snack for lunch , x which no music from wine and less food proposals than in the evening. But soup of the day and sandwiches very good. Great beers with lots of choice. Prices more than fair. Fantastic counter backlit by the exposed bottles. To go there.

Dropped in for drinks when we arrived in Clifden. Brilliant duo playing guitar and accordion, singing away: walk down towards the back to hear best. Brilliant line up of songs
located in centre of the town. Would be back here in a jiffy.

We popped in here most nights for a drink either before or after dinner (sometimes both!) Great atmosphere with attentive staff. A real mix of locals and visitors like us. Good live music playing on different nights.
