We stopped off at the lovely village of Clifden on a July afternoon And happened upon Walsh’s bakery, coffee house and deli for lunch. Friendly helpful staff and efficient service got our visit off to a great start. But the food, that really made it. Delicious fresh sandwiches with hearty mugs of tea satisfied our hunger. And the fresh cream buns to follow … all we can say is YUM, YUM, YUM!
Looking for a relaxed, tasty lunch in Clifden? Look no further!!!

... hot food and fresh sandwiches are only available from Thursday to Saturday, I'm guessing due to lack of staff. There's a wide choice of pastries so cake-lovers are well looked after, but coffee is served in takeway cups which was a bit disappointing and on the Wednesday we were there the seating area with the view over Clifden Harbour was closed, again this may be due to lack of staff. I'd have been interested to check out Walsh's to see what difference on a Thursday or Friday.

We stopped here while visiting Clifden while on an 18 day holiday to Ireland. We figured we would get a pastry and coffee for a light lunch but were so surprised when we went inside and found they not only are a bakery, but also a cafe which served sit down lunch. We got soup and sandwiches which were just wonderful. Staff was pleasant and we had an enjoyable break while doing some shopping in the village stores. Great place to stop by. Try it !!

Popped in here on Monday on my first visit to Clifden. Happened to park nearby and the place looked welcoming on a miserable wet day. Looks can be deceiving! My family and I stood for ages at the entrance to the cafe, not knowing whether to go to a table or wait to be seated, as due to Covid, many places ask u to wait to be seated. We were totally ignored, even though a woman ( who turned out to be the owner ) was behind the counter and could clearly see us!! Eventually she looked over, and I politely asked should we just go to a table or wait to be seated? She very abruptly replied ‘it’s self service’! Charming. There were a few free tables, but all were dirty with remains of food uncleared. We waited while a waitress cleared one table, and she just said ‘there’. I noticed all she did was wipe it, the same cloth for the table and chairs 😦 and didn’t use any antibacterial spray!! If it wasn’t for the fact that I really needed to use the toilet, and have a drink as we’d been driving for hours, I’d have left.
I went up to order, and had a quick look at the cake counter. The woman behind that counter never spoke, and when I asked if I could buy a cake from there to eat in the cafe, she literally grunted yes. I didn’t bother 🙄 i moved along to the self service cafe counter, and was served by the owner. Again, very curt, unfriendly and not a hint of a smile, either to me or the customers in front of me. I just ordered tea, and milkshakes for the kids, which they enjoyed. The toilets were clean so that was good, but in general the cafe was noisy, untidy, and people on top of each other. As other reviewers have said, no social distancing. The owner wasn’t wearing any visor or mask, although from what I remember the other staff were. I did ask one of the waitresses for directions and she was very helpful so at least they’re not all rude.
I wudnt recommend this place at all. I can’t believe that in such a beautiful place as Cliffden, which even with Covid, was packed with holidaymakers, that the owner of an establishment, and some of the staff, could be so rude and unwelcoming. They should be encouraging customers, with so many places forced to close.

Not worth the €9.50 charged for a small portion, as opposed to the advertised 'large Irish breakfast' which landed on our table. Only freshly prepared items included in the breakfast were the pot of tea, toast and fried egg. The black/white pudding, bacon and sausage all pre-cooked a good while before, considering the condition of the items we had on our plates. For this price, it should be cooked to order. We don't mind, as I'm sure most people don't mind, waiting for good food cooked well. Will not be trying Walsh's in Clifden again. Walsh's, please try harder, or do tourists not really matter to you?

Got a recommendation for here while visiting Connemara. Would not be recommending to anyone else. Social distancing at the que for the sandwiches etc is not good. Also felt the tables were too close together. Felt very uncomfortable waiting to que for my food. As there was a big que ended up queing for a good while. I ordered a chicken fillet roll. I was not impressed with what I got. The roll which wasn't exactly a roll tasted stale. I ended up eating a few pieces of chicken out of the roll and leaving the rest. Will not be returning.

After sadly walking around town for a while as basically every other shop seemed to be closed, we found this gem of a cafe, and thankfully they were happy to let our dog inside. Every single cake behind the counter looked tempting, but though it was our original plan to take one to go, we were just too full after the toasties and chips. Sadly no milkshakes available, but there’s enough on the menu for everyone.

We went to Clifden and chanced upon Walsh's Coffee Shop. How lucky we were! It is somewhere very special. The coffee was excellent, the lemon and ginger tea was the best I've ever had, and the danish pastries were to die for. The coffee shop/bakery is very clean, the staff were friendly and they are clearly artisan bakers.
After we had left we wished we had bought one of their loaves. The next morning we went to the little shop in Leenan and who should be delivering bread but Walsh's Coffee shop! So we were able to buy a spelt and honey loaf, and that too was delicious.
Thank you.

Gorgeous food and cakes here, definitely fresh. Would return next time I am in Clifden.
One negative was their organising at busy times. There were 2 queues one for people getting stuff to take away and then further in was the queue for self serve for people who were going to sit in the cafe. Because the first queue was so busy we didnt know that there was the second queue we spent a good 10 mins in the wrong queue.
Maybe if they had an usher at the door directing people to the correct queue, or serve the take-away customers through a separate window or hatch, things would be less chaotic at busy times.
Dont let this put you off though. Just make sure that you get in the correct queue if you are sitting down.

I ordered a "cornish pasty" in Walsh's. I knew immediately it wasn't the real deal because it was made with puff pastry instead of shortcrust pastry, but figured I'd go for it because it would still be tasty...how wrong I was.
The filing of a cornish pasty should be beef, potato, turnip and onion; I couldn't tell you what filling Walsh's put in their pasty, certainly not beef, I don't even think there was any kind of meat in it; it was with a flavourless, soggy mush.
I regret not complaining and asking for my money back, considering I was charged about €10 for a product that was falsly labelled and unpalatable. Very disappointing.

We stopped in Walsh's for a quick lunch in Clifden while driving the Connemara loop. Pleasant surprise to find a Cajun sandwich in Ireland. The sugar-coated donut topped-off the lunch treat and the wife enjoyed the creme-filled pastry. Great freshly made deli sandwiches. Love it!

Popped in for a coffee and got very excited that they also did vegan sausage rolls. As a vegan for the last 15 years, I've tried quite a few vegan sausage rolls and I can hands down say that this is the best one I've ever had - which I must say I didn't expect during our trip to Connemara. The place was incredibly friendly too, and the coffee was excellent. Definitely recommend!

Solid selection of traybakes, cakes, coffee , buns, soup etc...
Nothing outstanding, but honest , tasty , and good price.
Seems popular with locals too, likely as is not a too cool or trendy place.

Hands down, the BEST Vegan sausage rolls I’ve tasted! So delicious, and an absolute saving grace for two travelling vegans! So filling and yummy, and expertly homemade. The soy milk cappuccino was PERFECT. Loved it!!
