Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Yesterday my mom treated the family to battered Hake and fish that came with a selection of leaves choice of chips or mash & a zingy tartar sauce. She placed the order for pick up and

Lovely pleasant and Covid-19 compliant. The food was excellent. Very well presented and very fast. My daughter had chicken goujons and they looked home made and delicious. My mom has the prawn and crab meat salad... that came with smoked salmon. She didn’t want smoked salmon and was offered more prawns or crab. So accommodating. I had the beetroot burger - absolutely delicious. Service was very attentive and we were not waiting long for a table even though to was quite busy. Covid compliance was very good and we felt safe. Highly recommend this place if in Clifden.

Dined in Guys twice during a recent visit to Clifden. Food is great and would highly recommend the vegan chocolate tart. Both inside and outside dining were enjoyable and every effort was made to provide a safe indoor environment. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Will definitely return

We dined here recently and while the food is still quite good, particularly the tempura prawns, the prices have gone off the scale. The prawn starter was 13.50 Euro and main courses are around 17-18.50 Euro. We ordered a bottle of white Rioja priced at 27.50 Euro, about three times its cost in a supermarket. It was both mediocre and overpriced.
My wife had two starters and no mains. I ordered the beef stew which was quite good but not memorable. A large blob of mash had been slapped on top, so presentation was poor.
With one dessert and a couple of drinks out bill came to just over 90.00 Euro. For bar food this is exorbitant. Maybe the social distancing rules has meant fewer clients so the prices have been jacked up.
However, we won't be coming back for a repeat. It's way, way too expensive.

After reading the glowing reviews here we were looking forward to eating in Guys. It is a busy spot that doesn't take reservations and requires you to wait outside for a table after putting your name on the list. We were told it could be 45 minutes but were happy to get called in 20 minutes. Staff were quick to take our order and the food arrived out very quickly.
The menu is standard pub food, lots of fried dishes including fish and chips and a chicken tender type dish. I went for dishes that were on the specials list. The tempura prawns were in a batter that was too thick and very oily. The sea bass main was a better dish but again the frying of the fish left an oily coating on everything. The fish and chips was more successful and the portions were generous,
It's a busy spot but I think there is better options in Clifden (if you can manage to get a table)

We had booked a table for 8pm for our wedding anniversary. Due to our booked taxi not showing up, we ended up being almost 25 minutes late for our reservation. The restaurant had phoned several times to see if we were coming but we didn't get their messages until we were nearly in Clifden due to terrible phone coverage. So when we arrived they had given our table away. But they told us to take a seat and have a drink and they'd get us a table. We didn't have to wait long to get a gorgeous cosy booth. The food and service were great. We had wings, pizza and fish and chips. Delicious wine and cocktails too. I'd definitely go back.

The quality of food was excellent and equaled only by the quality of service. This place is a must go to and we will be going back again and again. Having been very disappointed by another restaurant in the town we went around the corner to Guys and went back every evening for the rest of the week. Martin is front of house and would probably get a job with NASA if he wanted to given the power of his memory. He is not just good at names, he is professional, witty, patient and great craic! Shane is the owner and if Mackerel is on the menu get it because he has probably caught it himself that day. Shane is one of life's gentlemen and it is clear that he has set the warm welcoming atmosphere that is the trademark of Guys. All the staff we met were of the same ilk and we would particularly like to mention Ciara who could not have been more attentive and friendly.
The food is outstanding, beautifully presented, perfectly cooked and served with a smile. The Goats Cheese Pasta is an absolute must (add the chicken) the fish and chips is the best I've ever had and any fresh fish on the specials is VERY fresh and cooked to perfection.
I promise if you try Guys once you will go back.

Ate here this evening with my husband and three children. Rang ahead and we were told they didn't take bookings, fair enough. However on arrival around three tables had reserved signs on them.
Started off OK, husband's starter and kids' meals arrived promptly. However the children's meals are extortionate at 9.50 for sausage and chips, and the portions are tiny. Would be ok for a 4-5 year old at most. All three children were still hungry after them.
Nobody came to ask if everything was OK until near the end of the meal. I had to go to the bar to ask for ketchup, and was left waiting a long time for a pizza. Everyone else was almost finished by the time it arrived. Once I alerted a server to the fact that I was still waiting, the pizza appeared straightaway, so looks like it had just been left sitting there. Pizza was just OK. Drinks were overpriced also compared to the other places in Clifden we've eaten at this week.
There are definitely better places to eat in Clifden, will not be returning here.

Very quick service, staff very pleasant and polite. Ordered the seafood “chowder”, not a chowder more like seafood soup, there was a lot of fish and veg but very watery. Brown bread was good though and you got two big thick slices. Maybe rewrite the menu and call seafood soup not chowder

A quirky little restaurant in the heart of one of the best places in Ireland. The food was outstanding and the staff so friendly and helpful to us. Please give the chef special credit for the goats cheese pasta. Mouth wateringly good we had to come back a second night.

We called in to Guy’s for lunch earlier this week and loved it so much that we came back tonight for our evening meal. The food is fantastic, a fairly simple menu but everything we had over the two visits was cooked to perfection and so full of flavour.
But it’s the staff and the level of service that really impressed us. Tonight especially as the place was packed to the rafters, with customers continually coming in, seemingly happy to queue up at the bar and wait for a table to become free. Yet the staff were always friendly and chatty, very relaxed but wonderfully efficient, we never once felt rushed or hurried. One member of staff particularly stood out for us. Whitney, who served our table, is a walking ray of sunshine and our family absolutely loved her!
Thank you to all of the team though, you made our final night in Clifden special!

Arrived as a party of 4, told 10-15 minutes wait, fair enough and we sat at the bar.
Maybe 30 minutes later we were taken into the other room only to find a party of 4 that arrived after us sitting and eating already.
Our main courses arrived 1 hour 35 minutes after we arrived. They were okay.

Went to Guys on 2 occasions during our recent holiday in Clifden. We didn’t have a reservation on the 2nd visit but the maitre d called us when they had a free table. Food is very high standard, we had mussels, lamb burger, pizza and red curry all delicious. We were served by Whitney, who was delightful, and you can get the vibe that the staff like working there and are well treated so kudos to the staff and the owners. It’s not easy being in hospitality at this time but they make it seamless. Thanks again to to maitre d for looking after us and Whitney for the lovely service, see you again next time we’re in Clifden

Really tasty food and nice atmosphere. We enjoyed the beef burgers that were served with chips. This bar are catering very well for the restrictions. It would be great to be able to book to save any disappointment. I would advise to arrive early.

Friendly staff. I had the soup to start with it was lovely the homemade bread was nice too. My partner got the seafood chowder he said it wasn't the best (he's an expert on seafood at this stage) he said it wasn't creamy enough nor was there enough fish in it. I got the lamb stew it was lovely and my partner got the lamb burger he said it was lovely but very rich. Portion sizes were good too. Good value for money too I think. Two Guinness, two Tia Marias, two starters, two mains €65.
