Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I visited this pub four years ago for an early lunch and the owners were so memorable that on my next trip to Ireland it was one of the places I wanted to revisit.
On this latest trip I returned with my family and we all had a lovely lunch. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was superb. Everyone enjoyed the different items we tried from their menu.
During our lunch the owner realized we were in the area for my wedding a few days hence. They offered to open the pub on their day off and provide food and drinks for our small group. This was a very special time for our family. They provided such a comfortable atmosphere with great food and very reasonable prices.
This is a place I will return to on each trip back to Ireland.

Visiting Inistioge in February, we found some beautiful walks (can highly recommend the ladies loop walk which features a stunning view) but a slight lack of cafes open for business in the late afternoon. Luckily, one of the staff dropped by with a delivery and we were kindly invited in and enjoyed a cup of tea before we continued our travels. Would recommend this pub as a pitstop if you are in the area and just highlights the hospitality of the locals.

First off, wife and I were here in off-season, so the operational days were limited and the restaurant wasn't fully operational, so I can't speak to that. They did have a pop-up burger option on Saturday that was absolutely delicious. (Lamb, Beef).
We stayed in the village for 3+ weeks. I believe that contributed to our experience. The best part of this pub is the people, and a close 2nd is the atmosphere. Alan and Katryn were very welcoming. Several other local patrons were also very welcoming. We made several friends, had some great discussions, and some great Guinness. When St Patrick's Day rolled around, a surprise was that some of our new friends were musically inclined and the whole late afternoon/night was filled with music. For our longer stay, I specifically selected a small village for the possibility of small pub environment, and getting to know the locals. My wife and I are thoroughly overjoyed with the random luck of picking a town that had The Otter in it, and it will forever hold a special place in our hearts for everyone we met, the atmosphere, and the conversations had. Alan, thank you SO much for making our stay so memorable! S'lainte and Good luck! ~Marty & Jen (the Americans)

What a fab spot. Went for a late lunch, was still there at the end of the night!
The wood fired oven serves up delicious pizzas.. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun with Alan behind the bar chatting to everyone.
Oh and dog friendly area at the front

This is one of those pubs that doesn't need to try and be authentic, it just is.
No airs and graces, just a proper village pub, with an open fire, Smashing pints of Guinness and proper Wood Fired Pizza.
The village and surrounding area are outstanding, and one of the main reasons is being able to have a pint in The Otter.

Both Alan and Katrin are marvellous. The staff are amazing and couldn’t be any more helpful. I celebrated my 50th at the Otter. We had the whole place to ourselves, use of the sound system, beautiful pizzas, sandwiches and amazing company. All my friends and family were warmly welcomed and we felt part of the family. I have recommended the Otter to everyone and will definitely be a regular caller when we are back in Kilkenny. Thank you so much for looking after us so we’ll.

My wife and I stayed in the village for a week and a half, we went in all the pubs and this was by far and away the best. Full of local characters all of whom were charming coupled with a few tourists like ourselves. We, and our three dogs, were welcomed and the two pub dogs were great. Alan the landlord is a gem of a bloke who can’t do enough for you and goes out of his way to enhance your stay. Excellent music nights also are put on. Special mention to Mia who is a font of knowledge regarding local history and took us on a fantastic guided tour of the village. We will definitely be back!!

The Otter Pub in Inistioge, Ireland is now my favorite pub on the planet. Great food, great Irish and German beers. We stayed in Inistioge for the entire month of March, so we were there many days and evenings. We really enjoyed talking to the owners and customers, intelligent conversations, fun conversations, great folks. They have live music often, and the entertainment is good and the folks were friendly and invited folks to come up and play during breaks. A surprising number for very talented folks around Inistioge. I think this is a gem.

I arrived with my family in Saturday 1st July. We ordered three pizzas and a lasagna plus drinks. The lasagna was cold in the middle and the pizzas were dreadful. We had paid for all in advance and were so disappointed. We left all the uneaten food behind us. We would never go there again

What an extraordinary place to spend a couple hours on our last day in Ireland. Alan and Catrin exude all the friendliness of Ireland in one lovely pub. Bartenders, friends, tour guides, and the best Guinness we’ve had in Ireland. We’re just sorry we missed the music they have on offer during the weekend.

Recently just moved to Inistioge and I would say this is the best pub in the village.
Outstanding food and great price drinks!

This place is an absolute joke. The staff were rude and we definitely did not feel welcome here. We left our drinks and went to a much better bar. I later found out none of the locals drink here which does not surprise me.

Myself and a mate pulled in on our bikes for a pint courtesy of Alan. Unfortunately the pub was shut due to Covid. However, we had a great chat with him and he very kindly fixed my mates bike. Well done Alan! I look forward to having a pint in the bar when you re-open.
