I went with my boyfriend for his birthday and it really was such a special experience. We went for the four course tasting menu with the wine pairing and it was spectacular. I had a Bellini cocktail first and then they brought out this warm...brioche bread with treacle butter which was delicious. There was also a cep meringue as a snack. Then the first course was their vegetable course and it was a chargrilled stem of broccoli together with tenderstem broccoli mouse and sprouting broccoli with a parmesan foam which was so good. The next course was a fish course and it was so delicately presented. It was these tiny langoustines served with apple balls tinier than peas and a horseradish cream. I think it was my favourite dish. The meat course was venison with butternut squash and a cranberry sauce which just melted in the mouth, you didn't even need a knife to cut the meat. I am not a desert person but wow, now I am. We had poached plums with a biscuit ice cream and it was divine. The wine pairings were amazing and enhanced each dish. The service was so good. Attentive but not intrusive and then at the end because they overheard it was my Boyfriends birthday they brought out some birthday treats, one of which can only be described as a Michelin star Reece's pieces and the other was a whiskey sour jelly!! It really was an amazing experience. Do yourself a favour and treat yourself and go here. It is a taste sensation and worth every penny!More

We had a wonderful evening at Bastion last night. The restaurant room is charming, the food was beautifully presented and delicious. Helen, Paul and Pierre combined friendliness with impeccable service. A memorable night for us.

Outstanding restaurant in all regards. We are at 3 Michelin starred restaurants (0ne ** and two *) while in Ireland and this was definitely the best food, service and overall experience. Intimate dining room with outstanding service and food. Three hour dining experience that flew...by. Excellent wine list and wines by the glass. Also an excellent value for the overall experience.More

The service was superb, the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The presentation was excellent. The food was extraordinary good. The rack of lamb was amazing. The chef deserves more than one star. The dining room is comfortable and quiet. Chef McDonald’s creativity is outstanding,...combining simple ingredients with surprising results, such as trout with beets and langostines with apples, buttermilk and horseradish.More

The best meal we had during our two weeks in Ireland and the best I’ve ever had! Our experience dining at Bastion was exemplary from the moment we arrived; front of house (Helen) was warm and welcoming. Pierre gave information about each of our wines...(two of our group opted for wine pairing) and each beautifully prepared dish was presented with care and details of the components. Every dish was a joy and our time was unhurried. It was a pleasure to meet and hear from the chefs and end our meal with the best coffee I’d ever had. We have had prix fixe meals at other restaurants (and spent more $$) and these past experiences cannot compare with this wonderful experience at Bastion. HIGHLY recommend!!More

Perfectly prepared appetizers, soup, dinner and dessert, with unique flavors that will leave you wanting to come back for dinner the next day. We were impressed by the carefully curated wine pairing with each course, served by experienced and attentive staff. All of this in...an intimate setting, well priced for a Michelin starred restaurant. Make reservations in advance of your visit to Kinsale, and spring for the extra courses and wine pairing!More

My partner and I go to a michelin star restaurant every year for her birthday and I am really surprised that this restaurant has got one. Some of the diches were good but it felt the sauce to meat or veg ratio was off and...there was no really outstanding dish. Even more disappointing was wine pairing felt like little thought when into it, there was white wine in all but one of the courses and lacked variety as expected with a tasting menu.More

Beautiful delicate and exceptionally tasty seasonal cooking. The wine pairing was skill, showing great balance and complexity and introduced us to some new wine makers. Service was courteous, extremely professional but without the snobby element of some Michelin star places. Really enjoyable night thank you.
