Beautiful delicate and exceptionally tasty seasonal cooking. The wine pairing was skill, showing great balance and complexity and introduced us to some new wine makers. Service was courteous, extremely professional but without the snobby element of some Michelin star places. Really enjoyable night thank you.

Beautifully presented small bites in nice surroundings. I think this is for serious foodies. Too formal for me. We were gifted this by our children. Personally I would prefer a less formal setting where I choose what I eat. Our meal plus wine came to...320 plus tip. For this we could have had 3 fine nights dining in Kinsale. Definitely not for me.More

My sincere thanks to Bastion for their total lack of understanding that a sick child needing to be rushed to A&E overrides their late cancellation policy & for charging my card €250 while we were still in the hospital awaiting emergency test results. While I...appreciate the pressure businesses are under I feel charging a full fee of €250 is excessive. I would understand a more appropriate cancellation fee. I feel your response both by phone & email completely lacked empathy for the traumatic situation we found ourselves in. Charging someone €250 for NOTHING in the current climate leaves a very sour taste for what was meant to be a special occasion.More

With a Michellin star, one expects the best and Bastion covered all of the bases. Lovely, romantic atmosphere - tables well-spaced, simple design. Outstanding, engaging and informed staff. Creative, eclectic assortment of courses. We did not opt for the wine pairing, we just didn't want...to drink that much, but followed the recommendations for one glass of red and one of white and they were perfect. We liked the timing of one seating and each course served to all at the same time. Everything was well-paced and there was never that "we arrived before them, why are they being served first" kind of thing. The menu is ever revolving, but absolutely loved the "snacks" - one was an oyster in a cream sauce that was downright decadent, the next a sous vide (quail?duck?) yolk atop a paperthin bacon that was wrapped around a pudding/cake-type filling. The carrot/soup dish with just a hint of curry was delicately balanced. The fish with it's mini cut-out 'scales' of a root vegetable must have been time consuming to assemble! Langoustine with alcohol soaked (vermouth?) green apple balls. The lamb chop delicious. And the desserts plentiful. We also opted for the additional cheese plate which didn't disappoint. The only thing we struggled with was one of the butters with carmelized onion in it - we like salt w/our butter, but it was just too salty and we stuck with the plain butter.More

We reserved for the 8 course tasting menu as a special night out on our vacation. On confirmation the restaurant indicates that this is a 2 .5 hour meal. We did not feel rushed and there was time between each course to enjoy the food...and wine. The food was expertly prepared, creatively presented and the wait staff are friendly and professional. Some of the food combinations, I would not think to combine- one of our courses was cured Langoustine, with buttermilk, horseradish and pernod apple. The combination was very tasty- I could have licked the plate to get every last drop! The snacks at the beginning of the meal (Oyster in Champagne Cream and Leek Oil and Pain Perdu) tempted our appetite and leave you wanting more. The sweet treats at the end of the meal were tasty and brought a nice finish to the end of a lovely evening. If you are vegan or a strict vegetarian, the tasting menu may not be for you as there was both meat, fish and seafood. If you love exceptional food that is artistically displayed, I would highly recommend Bastion!More

Bastion just serve a tasting menu, though they can accommodate dietary requirements, and all tables are served at the same time. The staff were friendly and informative and meal a special way to end our trip around the south of Ireland.

First time here. Beautiful small intimate restaurant with space. Great wine list suitable for range of budgets. High class service. Food was sublime and balanced and delicious. I have been fortunate to eat in a number of Michelin starred places. This was right up there....Good choices of wines by the glass using Coravin too. Would happily go back for any special occasionMore

Bastion really has an inspired menu. Always a surprise as to what comes next but never a disappointment. Food is presented like a work of art and certainly the chef has put so much thought into the food he prepares. All of the staff were...welcoming and knowledgeable and took the time to explain the food that was being served and also to chat. It was a delightful experience and made our anniversary quite special. A must whilst in and around Kinsale. Thanks you to all of you.More

After eighteen months of home cooking, our first proper dining out experience was here, and it was truly wonderful. Every course was so well executed and the service was so professional. Tasting menu for both of us, my wife has a shellfish allergy so they...very quickly made some tweaks for her. Lovely pace to an evening of superb food.More

This was an outstanding experience from the welcome, the food, the surprise treats, the wine and the service. The quality of food was second to none and the chef’s creations were delicious. To top it all off, Chef Paul personal returned to the restaurant on...a closed day to return my husband’s red wine influenced lost phone (on the table…) 🤣 Would highly recommend and would love to return to taste another seasonal menu. Congrats to all at Bastion!More

A welcoming reception, very professional and knowledgeable staff. Our children were made to feel as valued diners. Food was off the charts! Beautifully presented, explained and every mouthful was stunning. Wine pairing was perfect and explained with every course. Great meal from start to finish....Will definitely be back. Chef Paul was also helpful with our booking by way of a cancellation - great to see a Chef take so much interest in his customers from start to finish.More

We visited Bastion, during two of the lockdowns in Ireland as we wanted to visit more fine dining restaurants in Cork. When we got there the service and wait staff were extremely friendly and polite and explained about the seasonal tasting menu etc. As they...didnt offer beer, we asked for a wine recommendation and based on my partners preference for wine the staff suggested a wine that she really enjoyed and it was probably the cheapest wine on the menu (which I feel showed they cared more about the guests likes then making a few extra euro). We were aware of what was on the 6 course tasting menu (not including some additional small dishes) and I wasn't as excited as I would have liked with some of the dishes not sounding to my liking. I was very wrong. I enjoyed each course a lot and even those that weren't my favourite there was something interesting about them and something that caused conversation esp the Cauliflower and Caviar Cheesecake, and the Cured Langoustine. The menu ended really strongly I feel with the desert of White Chocolate and Passion Fruit, white chocolate would never be my favourite thing but the balance and different textures were great. Overall really enjoyed the food and the staff made it a really great experience. Not sure I would return for the same tasting menu as I would like to try some different things but would be back to try their next seasonal menu.More
