Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Last here in April 2022 for a meal and it was excellent ( see review for April) over the summer we have called in many times for a coffee or a drink outside, over looking fabulous views. So was looking forward to eating there again,...and I was not disappointed. Cooked to perfection and nicely presented. Unfortunately it fell down when my wife asked for a Bailey's coffee, what she got was a mug of coffee, Bailey's in it somewhere, ( could not taste it) and artificial cream from a tin. Now that is NOT the way to make a traditional Irish /Bailey's coffee and charge € 8 60. Didn't say anything to our server as they were just young, doing a summer job, I suppose But I do blame bad management training. If as a bar/ restaurant you don't do Irish or Bailey coffee do tell the customer that. FOOD AND STAFF EXCELLENT. BUT FELL DOWN ON COFFEE.More

Sarah and her team are a delight. The food is always wonderful. The staff are so obliging and cheery. We have eaten there dozens of times and have always had the best food, fantastic service and looked after so well. The Tavern is dog friendly...too and Sarah always bring bones out for my dog, Nala. It’s Nala’s favourite place to go! The setting is gorgeous and it’s simply a piece of heaven. Inside snuggled by the fire in the winter or outside in the glorious sunshine by the water. Thank you Sarah and Christian.More

Honestly had a great time in East ferry tavern , we pulled in at the pier , watched all the fishing and rowing that was happening , then proceeded to the tavern sat out on the deck across from the bar ordered dinner and drinks...took in the most scenic views and stayed for 5 hours . The staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming . Thank you for a great evening.More

I never leave negative reviews but on this occasion I felt it necessary. We stopped here for a work lunch. Had been here many times over the years when we take trips to Cork. Beautiful surroundings but that's where the buck stops. The owner told...us if we wanted to be fed we would want to make up our minds quick as they were closing the kitchen. We ordered the roast beef. We were told that it comes with potato and veg. What was served to us was nothing but horrendous! The lady's nails were dirty which was the first thing we spotted as she handed us the plates. She was wearing a white pants which looked like she used it as a Waiters cloth. It was filthy. I'd understand if the place was busy but we were the only people there! We paid and left the food there. What a shame that this place has sunk so low. When we told the owner about our disappointment she barked back at us, it's good enough for everyone else. Who is everyone else I'd love to know. The place was empty! Horrific experience.More

This seems to be a common theme on the reviews page but I really could not believe what myself and five friends witnessed on Sunday in The Tavern. An owner that can only be described as a cross between Satan and Basil Fawlty!!!! Abusive towards...her staff but even more frightening was abusive and arrogant to customers. Middle of the road pub grub is all I can call what we were served. With so many superb restaurants in my Midleton like Ferrit and Lee, Sage, Surf and Turf, Farm Gate, Roastie etc. I advise people do not waste time, money or your self respect on this horrible establishment and owner.More

Burgers and ribs ok. Sunday lunch possibly the worst ever. 2nd visit this weekend to try the Sunday lunch. This place advertises beef as a speciality so you would think the beef roast would be a good choice, unfortunately not. The beef came cut thick...and lots of it, but we had to request steak knifes to cut it. The gravy hid the dry burnt meat which I actually believe was left over from last night steak dinners. The veg was also not fresh. I tried to eat some but it was like leather. Complained to the waitress and the beef was deducted off the bill, the manager avoided the issue completely and never even mentioned it while we paid. Will never return.More

We had an excellent Bank Holiday lunch sitting outside The Tavern on a sunny day. The mussels, chowder and ribs were delicious and the Guinness went down very well too! Lovely staff and a warm atmosphere topped off the experience. We're looking forward to going...back and trying out more of the menu.More

We went for dinner and were met by Sara who said they were already closing early for the night. When she saw how disappointed we were she checked with Chef Christian and they said they could accommodate us but with a limited selection (they were...so busy that day that they ran out of some supplies - good sign!!). We had the ribs and ribeye steak. Both were excellent and so was Sara’s service!! A stand out meal on our trip!! Highly recommend.More

Called for a coffee after a walk and told they we not a cafe. Felt very unwelcome. Had dinner for my birthday also around the same time and it was really overpriced bar food with the owner hovering around us all during our meal. That...in addition to telling people that they are full when it's never full. Very peculiar.More

Excellent meal and location Went here for a family birthday meal and really enjoyed it. 4 adults and 3 children. The children menu wasn’t too extensive, however thankfully the kids all got something they enjoyed. Adults portions are huge so bear that in mind, however...the filet and striploin steaks were beautiful. The ribs were also delicious along with the half chicken. Unfortunately it wasn’t a great day when we visited as i could imagine if would be stunning in the sunshine. We’ll definitely be back!More

Our fourth visit to this gorgeously situated restaurant, overlooking the estuary with seating outside looking at the view or inside in the very attractive dining room. The weather was a bit cool for outside so our last two visits we have been seated by a...blazing log fire in the restaurant. Always a very warm welcome from the Hostess and her staff. An excellent menu and we have never been anything but delighted with our food. The Chef has a flair for sauces....all bursting with flavour! Yesterday we both chose mussels to start which were served in an intense tomato sauce. I then had Mediterranean cod - a succulent piece of moist, beautifully cooked fish with a tomato and olive sauce. My husband decided on the rack of pork ribs with chips...best chips in Co. Cork ... and he enjoyed every delicious morsel. The Tavern is most certainly one of the very best eateries in Cork. Excellent food, great service and very good value for money. WELL WORTH A VISIT.More
