Food buffet We stayed at the Grand Hotel a family of four. The buffet breakfast was poor. The porridge and scrambled eggs were so watery we had to send them back. The portions were tiny. We waited in a queue for 10 minutes to be...served at the buffet and for 15 minutes at our table for tea and coffee. Staff at Checkout We called from our room to ask for help with our luggage. We were told they could send up a trolley but there was no porter to help with bags. We will not stay again we will go to the Hotel in Portumarnock. The family room is large and comfortable but the door to the bathroom squeaked so lovely on the hinges it woke us up every time someone went to the toilet during the night.More

Dear Janoreilly I was disappointed to see your comments on breakfast as we have such a wide variety on offer each morning. Also in relation to portion size, as it's buffet you can take as much or as little as you like. All your points...More

Spent the last three days in this beautiful hotel. We had an immaculate room unfortunately not with a sea view but that’s just luck. The hotel was quiet but it is very grand and well appointed. Staff were very attentive food was good. The only...negative was the bar closed about 10.30 and there was a lack of atmosphere about the place. We met some lovely people and I will definitely come back when things return to normal.More

Great food, professional staff in an intimate, yet friendly formal settling. Wonderful seating with a view from most tables. Wait staff and management always there but never hovering. Fantastic staff. Great place to bring friends and business acquaintances for a memorable meal, beautifully presented.

Luis the maitre de is magnificent! Warm, friendly, funny, and gives the impression that he's actually glad that you've come to eat! And the food.... Superb. We has a Seafood medley and Guinea fowl. Wonderful. Beautifully presented, sensible portion sizes, and tasting delicious! My wife's...white chocolate and raspberry mousse, served with berries and raspberry sorbet was, in her words, quite possibly the best dessert that she had ever had! My Tarte tatin was really good too! Malahide has numerous good restaurants. We stay in the Grand Hotel at least once a year and we don't even think about walking the 100 yards to go anywhere else!More

Stayed here for a friends dinner again this Christmas expecting the same style and quality of food. Don't know what is changed but something , the food was so bad we had to go to the village to eat. Spoke to a staff member and...they told us the last head chef left few months ago . Really disappointed for me and my friends.More

We were over for a New Year break and heard such fantastic things about Malahide. Unfortunately the restaurant wasn't in the same category as the resort. We were wondering why it was empty on a New year break weekend and soon realised enough to see...the funny side and agrewhy. From the unfriendly waitress, chutney that was passed off as soup.... It went from worse to worse. The main course was Salmon...... It was minute, not even 2 inch x 2 inch...... We were luckye that the restaurants in the town has better reviews and we would go there next time..... Put it down to experience as they say.... On the bright side, we had a window table and the view was great.More

The Coast restaurant is aptly named as that is what you see as you look out the panoramic windows here. There is a grand entrance to the Hotel and it is called the "Grand Hotel", after all. My family were most impressed as some had...never been here before. Sadly it was after their Grannies funeral so not a jolly affair but we made the most of it. The staff took you to your table and informed you what was on the menu and called you up when everyone else was seated. The lunch was a carvery affair and the smell alone would make you hungry. The chefs were all very polite and helpful and made our lunch. Some of the younger cousins were back up for "seconds" but sure what do you do. Teenagers are hard to feed anyway and they were eating good food. They had Coeliac courses which suited my wife and a vegan option or two for that persuasion. The family had opened up a tab at the bar and some people had wine and others beer. Then those of us who were driving had coffee or tea. They look after everyone so well and we all were full as ticks leaving. There was a V.I.P. in the next room who was taking part in a local election and the hotel gave him a quiet table so as not to be bothered by press or voters like ourselves. He did not get the same view as us but he had other things on his mind I am sure. My wife and I said we should come back on a less somber occasion. I would highly recommend the "Coast Restaurant".More

We were a group of six; visited for dinner back in July. Not a good experience. Our hosts did complain to management and they accepted the feedback/criticism and offered us a voucher and invitation to return. Very gracious - to be fair. We returned last...weekend and had a much better experience. Food was very good, service also very attentive. Full marks to the Coast and the management / staff for retrieving this customer and my five friends. We will be back.More
