Concerned by previous poor reviews, when trying to book a table I mentioned that previous reviewers had said that non compliance with covid regs was an issue. And so it began....did I think he was supposed to check everyone!?? Only regular diners go to Il...Sorriso apparently so there was no need to keep checking people! Was I suggesting that everyone's certs should be checked?! When I said yes, I thought those were the rules I was accused of clearly not reading the newspapers or listening to the radio.....! The defensiveness and rudeness was breathtaking. Needless to say I cancelled our booking. So I concur with two years of previous reviews - no covid compliance and incredibly rude!More

I booked a table for 3 for what i hoped would be easy relaxed night. Me, my Mrs and her little lad who was dead excited for pizza Arrived at 8 and we were met with what I can only describe as contempt (by a...sweaty flustered manager) for no other apparent reason than this restaurant’s inability to cope with being mildly busy on a Tuesday night. He said come back in 20 minutes, I said I’d booked for 8. He said and I quote “Well that’s your choice” I never write reviews - I can’t be bothered - but this guy was special. Walked straight out of the door and went to Malahide Social which was cool as fk and they have one of the best pizza menus I’ve seen and I’ve worked in Italy. Blessing in disguise for us. This lot are amateurs who only survive on a flow of old tourists who know no better. Avoid at all costs / there are so many better places in Malahide.More

I have dined in this restaurant with my family & also with my girlfriends over the years. The food is very good and also good value. However tonight 19/08/21, I dined along with 3 of my friends and we were absolutely shocked at the lack...of compliance to the HSE guidelines regarding covid. As soon as we arrived we were ready to show our covid certs and basically we were just told it's fine and ushered to our table without checking. Simply not acceptable! Then during the course of the meal, our waitress had her mask down below her nose, the two front of house gentleman served us wearing NO masks at all & the chefs in the kitchen were also NOT wearing face covering. We observed other customers leaning back and covering their own faces with their napkins as they were being served their food, aware that the servers were wearing NO face covering what so ever!!!! I'm not writing this without having expressed my concerns to the staff directly! And to be honest, they couldn't have cared less about our discomfort. SO BE WARNED!More

Good food and reasonably priced. However the waitress had her face mask under her chin for the whole time we were there. There was no social distancing at all between tables. The table of eight nearby was inches away from us. No hand sanitizer in...the restaurant. I won’t be back.More

I went to this restaurant last weekend, which was my first time back since COVID restrictions were lifted and indoor dining allowed. Previously, I would have eaten here reasonably regularly. I was not asked for my digital passport and there was no hand sanitizer to...be seen on entry. We were seated and when we enquired about COVID regulations the manager was VERY rude to us and for the rest of the meal, the service was atrocious, bordering on aggressive. We were made feel we were in the wrong and been offensive. A bill was put in our table before we had finished the wine and we were basically asked to leave. It was a big letdown.More

I had previously given this restaurant a favourable review after eating here in 2018 and will hasten to say that that particular review still stands,in terms of food and ambience, however this visit was severely marred by the dreadful way we were treated by the horrible...manager. Myself and a friend booked to eat here on a Saturday evening recently. On entering the restaurant we noticed that a couple we knew were already eating there and so joined them at their table. The food was excellent ( I had meatballs to start and a beef stroganoff style pasta as a main and my friend had a pizza) and the wine was good quality. We had finished our meals and ordered another bottle of wine and 2 beers when a member of staff approached the table, put down the bills and said that they needed the table back straight away. Of course we were very taken aback as the staff had just taken an order and delivered to the table alcohol which would take some time to consume. Also, there was no mention at the time of booking that there would be a time limit on the table and I know that the Covid 1 hour and 45 minutes rule no longer stands. When we questioned this the waitress got the manager over but he was shockingly rude and aggressive towards us,so much so that at first we thought that he was joking around! He told us that there were people queueing for the table (which there weren't and the restaurant was half empty) and that we needed to pay up and leave immediately. When I asked could we finish up the drinks we had ordered he said no and that if we didn't leave straight away he would call the Guards! He said that I should take the bottle of wine with me,despite the fact that it was raining outside and that they had no outdoor seating to offer us to finish up our drinks. I will add that the bill for myself and my friend was Euro 148 and for the other couple Euro 215 and that we did not even use the table we booked,as we joined our friends unexpectedly at theirs. We paid our respective bills and departed but were left very bewildered and shaken by the whole episode. I grew up in Malahide and have eaten in most of the restaurants there and have never ever been treated with such hostility and disdain anywhere else. I will also add that Covid safety measures were poor - we were not asked to show our double jab certs and photo ID,which I,as a HSE worker, found slightly alarming. I have given Il Sorriso a 1 star rating purely for the good food but will never be returning here again - there are too many good restaurants in Malahide who do not treat their customers in such a reprehensible way.More

Booked a table outside at Il Sorriso. Arrived 15 minutes early and have never been spoken to as rudely as we were by the manager. We’ll never eat here again, we went elsewhere & had a great experience - will be telling our friends &...family to avoid.More

This restaurant is up quite a lot of stairs and is quite plain. The service was good and the food was well presented. Personally I found it to be a little too spicy.

Food is good, staff is friendly. Bad review is only because of Covid precautions. We would usually go there a good bit. But won't be going back now. The only thing we saw them do was wipe the table down which is what they would...do normally. No staff face masks, no hand sanitizer on way in/out or on tables. No gloves on staff. Didn't see them wipe down the menus, maybe they did but I didn't see it. Just seems to be taking the mickMore
