Having not been here for many years, we decided to try to book in. Luckily we got a table in their busy restaurant after a lovely day at the beach. We shared a starter of mussel that we’re cooking with garlic and has a crunchy...topping, totally delicious. We followed with sea trout for me and an amazing 14 oz steak for my husband, both served with potatoes and veg. Our daughter had homemade goujons and chips. Totally delicious, well presented and great service. The decor is a little tired but the quality of the food totally makes up for that and friendly staff too. Definitely deserves its rating on tripadvisor.More
We ate here on a Friday night. We had booked in advance but had to wait in the bar about half an hour before moving to the restaurant for our food. Restaurant not very busy and quiet atmosphere. Food was delicious. We both had Camembert...to start and then followed with fish. Portions large and tasty.More
Fantastic to brendan and staff fab food as always and Veronica our favourite friendly server . Wine and ambience perfect always enjoy.
Always remembered this place as being really good, went there with high hopes but was really very disappointed! Only gave 2 stars and that's due to the starters which were okay. Like a previous reviewer, steak was very over cooked, requested medium got very well...done steak. Chicken was tough, could hardly cut it so inedible. Mash potato was warm and lumpy, the vegetables were soggy and greasy, extremely overcooked to. Think they were supposed to be roasted vegetables but very bland to eat. Also, we weren't asked for covid vaccination status until after we were seated in the restaurant! We left hungry and underwhelmed.More
We booked this place after reading the reviews. We were very disappointed! We had to wait a very long time in between courses even if the place was quite empty. Very old decoration. The mussels as starter was lovely and their brown bread was also...nice. I asked for medium steak and it came too cooked. Was sent back and then I got raw steak... would not recommend the place at all.More
We spent 3 nights in bundoran. We ate here on 3rd night. We initially picked other places because this place decor didn't look great. However looks are deceiving as this restaurant has the best menu and excellent quality food. It seemed to us that the...locals came here which is always a good sign. A couple of minutes of the main street but definitely worth it. Book aheadMore
Ok so the exterior decor is a bit dated (and the interior also from what I could see-thanks to outdoor dining!) but the quality of the food was excellent. Perhaps the dishes are “traditional” but the portion sizes, the quality and the taste were all...excellent. The deserts in particular were incredible (waitress told us they are homemade and they definitely tasted like they were). They have a nice outdoor dining area set up with fairy lights and a covered marquee and are serving good quality food at good prices. Give them your custom!More
Both the food and the decor in this restaurant are in need of an update, While the food was good it is very old fashioned (lots of breadcrumbs and stuffing) The dining room is badly in need of redecoration it's like someones sitting room from...the late 70's a small bit of investment in the building and an update of the menu and this would be a class restaurantMore
First thing to notice is the friendly and helpful staff . The menu has plenty of choice and the fish dishes are excellent . Good wholesome food at the right price is hard to beat. I recommend Foxes lair to anyone who wants quality and...good value.More
We were 3 golfers on 'staycation' in the area for the local golf tournament. We were there for the period 6-9 September 2020. Two of the party had been there in previous years, and advised that a warm welcome awaited us. Sure enough, the welcome...we got was warm, fulsome and genuine. This was matched (and exceeded) by the superb food that was served to us, My personal favourite starter was the mussels served with a sprinkling of breadcrumbs and a taste of garlic. The food was piping hot and cooked to order. I tried different main dishes each day and each dish was superb, whether it was fish or poultry or meat. (Unfortunately I did not get the opportunity to sample the carbonara). In keeping with a top class restaurant, there was a selection of appropriate wines available. Brendan, Mary and Veronica looked after us in an exemplary manner. I shall return.More
As good a meal as I have had anywhere. I would love if they were in cork. I would be a regular. Food, staff, hospitality second to none. If you visit Bundoran and don't eat here you have missed out.
First time I have eaten in The Foxes Lair since the lock down. Safety and cleanliness assured. Lovely welcome back from Mary. My meal of Prawns Cocktail for starters, the Crusted Hake for mains and a Bailey’s coffee for dessert was divine thanks to Brendan...the chef. Brendan and Mary had a few words with us and waved us goodnight. A great evening in the company of good friends who eat here regularly and never had a poor meal or service. Hard to beat The Foxes Lair for good food, and hospitality with personal care and service. See you all again soon.More
Myself and my 8 year old daughter took a chance on walking in here at 8pm on a Monday night. When you walk in the front door it's like walking into someone's hall. The restaurant is on the right, bar is on the left but...was closed so cannot comment. It's a big open room with well spaced tables. The lady seemed a bit shocked that we had just walked in but made sure she could accommodate us before giving us a table. The menu is small but perfectly formed and they have a good kids menu. The food came quickly, the portions were absolutely huge, it was absolutely delicious and the prices are decent. This is not refined food by any means, this is good honest homemade food and exactly what I needed! Good hygiene in place also. The only reason I docked a star is because of the oddness of the setting. Recommended!More
We had been away for a while but we found on return that with a one way system and sanitizing station on entry it was both safe and the food was as good as ever, with Mary hosting and sparkling service. We ate twice a...week for the month and they were able to cope with our larger group of 8 to 10. Back very soon. Many thanks to Brendan, Mary, Grainne, MaryG ,Veronica and Charlene.More
