I recently had dinner in this pub and I was really impressed, I got the risotto and my boyfriend got the stew and both of our meals were so tasty and I honestly through it would be the usual 'pub grub' but it definitely had a higher standard than that. The atmosphere was nice and our waiter was really attentive and checked in on us numerous times. I would definitely recommended this pub for drinks and food, it is reasonably priced as well and in a great location at the harbour. Anyone who is visiting Dingle, definitely put this on your list of places to eat! If it was anything like my experience you will be impressed.

We booked two nights at John Benny’s for our trip to Dingle as they had a very easy to navigate system online and we had heard good things about the place. We did not end up eating here the first night as the table we were assigned was exposed to rain. We were disappointed as staff didn’t make huge efforts to attempt to keep us there but we still returned the following night, excited to have their steak baguette which we had heard so much about. Unfortunately, neither of us could have had it as it was served up to 6pm. The menu after 6 is very limited but we enjoyed our meals all the same. Cocktails were mediocre- very much something you could whip up at home yourself and they didn’t exactly match the description on the menu. The staff were pleasant and the pub was very compliant with social distancing guidelines which was a breath of fresh air while on our stay in Dingle as not many places were compliant.

I normally visit here once a year for many many years. I always think it is a great sign that it has familiar faces every year. Staff do not stay in a business in a tourist town unless they are well treated and happy. The owner here works as hard as his staff and is kind to them. There is a really happy atmosphere which you pick up on a soon as you walk in the door. Food here is excellent. Good quality ingredients, well cooked, often with a slightly different twist. Homemade bread with herbs like rosemary etc for.example. Great selections of drink and really excellent coffee I would advise making a reservation to guarantee a table as it is a popular spot from breakfast to close. I was very impressed with how the Covid guidelines were followed with out taking from the Customer experience.

We visited John Bennys this week on a retreat to Kerry, and have never in our lives encountered such disgusting customer service. I can tell from other reviews on here that the literally saving grace of this pub seems to be the younger wait staff and they’d be correct. And they are also correct about the tyrant they call an owner, who made us feel totally unwelcome and uncomfortable as we walked in. Note: we entered wearing masks and visually holding our own hand sanitizer. He first asked us for how many was out table and what our business was. We said we were there for food, and he replied bluntly “I’ll need the table back for 10 to 6.” No greeting or chatting just straight to the point. And seems gruff and ignorant to having us in the restaurant, despite us clearly being well groomed and adhering to COVID guidance. As we were seated he returned seconds later demanding our details for contact tracing, we respectfully complied as we had done in every other business on our trip, and he walked off. The very kind server took our order. My bf ordered a pint of coke, which every normal person knows is two bottles of normal coke in a pint glass, the owner returned to our table urgently to inform us of this in an extensively condescending tone..and we assured him we knew this already. And so he left to attend the door. We noticed as we sat down that the well to do local couple beside us (who had been there before we arrived) were still in the process of trying to order food, being exceptionally rude to the server, telling him to basically get lost until they chose their food. Then when they had finally chosen a gluten free and vegan option from the menu, the owner returned to go chat with them and assure them the meal would be gluten free etc. All the while standing right at our table in between the two tables, completely ignoring social distancing and not wearing any face covering: The food arrived, and was ok but definitely nothing to rave about, very average pub food. However we enjoyed it and paid for it as soon as finished to get out ASAP. And we tipped our nice server fairly as he was very busy and still gave us excellent service. Then as we got up to leave, we put back on our face coverings, sanitized our hands and put on our jackets, we approached the exit. As you’d expect the owner was waiting at the door and we walked up to say thank you for the meal, and to our utter disbelief he blatantly walked past us not making any eye contact whatsoever. We audibly said “thank you sir”, and he ignored us! Incredibly rude person, clearly not happy with irregulars coming into his pub during this current situation, even when they are compliant and responsible. We do not recommend at all.

Arrived to this pub just before 8pm. We had been refused in two other places prior because we had no booking. They informed us at the door that they only had an outside table but that the area was covered and heated and quite comfortable. I figured at that point because it was getting late and one of the places that refused us did so because they stopped serving food from 8pm we should take the outside table. Then he showed me this board that I could only order from the 4 choices available on the board because I was eating outside and therefore not entitled to the choice from the full menu. To say that the 4 choices on the menu were nothing to get excited about is the understatement of 2020. There was bbq ribs and chips, sweet corn fritters, onion rings and chips, fried scampi and chips and a cheese board. The first 3 were €10 each. We ordered one bbq ribs and one fried scampi. It was served to us in a basket with no cutlery offered. I honestly would be embarrassed to serve it to a child at a kids birthday party! I ate the 6 scampi’s, picked at a few of the chips and left as quickly as I got in there but still hungry! I cannot stress enough how bad it was. I understand we hadn’t made a booking but there were tables empty when we walked through to get to the back that were still empty when we left. A couple that came in as we finishing our meal who also had no booking were offered a table inside before they’d even ordered drinks. I have never in my life had a meal in an establishment that made me feel like a third class citizen. I don’t really understand what the reasoning was that we couldn’t order a meal like everyone else who was privileged enough to be seated inside. To think that such a thing can happen in 2020! I’m angry really at myself for agreeing to be treated in such a manner. When I put my hand in my pocket to come in to your establishment and hand over that hard earned money for the service you provide I expect to be treated equally. And the food......I serve better quality food to my dog. It was by far the worst meal I have ever been served.

We have been open and working hard since July 17th . as per guidelines we accept bookings and most people know full well that these bookings must be made in advance if at all possible as the region is actually very busy. When our tables are all booked and people arrive they are given the option for out side table, if we can provide one , and clearly shown the small menu option which is available . We state that these are snack baskets and are described as such. our full menu with all the service and cutlery that entails is available inside the restaurant only . I would suggest to you that , since you had No Booking and had not booked or gained access to another place that we were actually accommodating you. I do not accept that the food is of bad quality but I do hope you made your concerns known to you server on the evening in question. respectfully yours John & Eilis

Went for breakfast, on entering I got barked at and told to sit down for giving my name and number as I had been asked by the dark haired middle aged waitress that "greeted " us. On sitting down and attempting to give my number again I was again snapped at ,"for speaking "too fast". I slowed it down to kindergarten pace..she then apologized by telling me it was "early morning"...deadly..then on two tables being taken after we had sat, realised she was taking their orders first in a much sweeter manner than I had been dealt with on walking in the door! and they obviously got served before us also. Feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome as we waited I could only realise I was the only person of colour in the pub and also the only one being snarled at and ignored. Once we got our food , this waitress came and made it very clear as she asked how the food was that she was only speaking to my boyfriend, who is white. And shot a quick glare at me as she turned away. We are both sick at this point but so uncomfortable I didn't know how to deal. So we just continued on eating our food.As the tables next to us were paying to leave I overheard they had payed over a euro less than we were charged for the same breakfast?! After we were also charged an extra 1euro for some toast to have with it..on leaving, I went to use the bathroom only to once again get daggers from this same woman on passing. Me being Me just about managed an awkward smile and Freaked at this stage I couldn't get out of there quick enough. Horrible experience and I don't see things like this often these days. Dingle is such a beautiful place,we had a great time otherwise, it's a shame our time was darkened by going in there. Food was mediocre aswell ,I really wish I had of gone to one of the other two or three places on that street for brekkie that morning. It's funny she said shes not such a morning person to me but she sure seemed fine with everyone else in there. Disgusting tbh.

We booked a table here and ordered the special cheese board with house wine (€30) to share. We were told that we are going to need to order something else as the pub is "losing money by us being here". My partner said she would order an €11 starter in addition to the above in order to keep the pub happy. We were told that the chef will be angry if that's all we order. Also, if we ordered the special chesse board and wine, they will need to charge us separately for both the cheese and the wine, despite the chalk board advertising this as package. While the staff are trying their best, it is clear that confusing and frankly insulting messages are coming from management regarding the sit in rules. Sorry if the €200 (at least) we spent over 2 nights caused you to lose money guys!

Visited here early January on a day trip with family. The menu was limited on the day as the staff mentioned they weren’t serving certain items, such as the roast. The food we did order and receive was delicious but what left this establishment down on the day of our visit was the staff. They spent the majority of the time we spent here stood behind the bar chatting (quite loudly) amongst themselves - we could hear the entirety of their conversation. It almost seemed as if we were an inconvenience for them. After taking our order we were never offered if we would like any drinks. After receiving our food we had to call one of the staff members over who was less than impressed that we wanted to order drinks. After taking this order instead of going back to the bar the staff member in question went out the front door and didn’t return for a number of minutes. On her return, the second staff member joined her and they both went outside. We eventually received our drinks half way through our meal. Upon payment I was asked if I “needed a receipt” in a tone that made me feel as though it would have been an inconvenience for this staff member to actually present me with a receipt of our meal. Overall I was disappointed with the service we received and would be hesitant to return because of this. The food, however, was amazing and it’s a shame that these staff members really dampened our lunch experience.

Good food but useless waiter! We booked a table and were excited to eat. Our server took an order from a table that sat down after us before our own. We were waiting about 15 mins before we got a drink. It was a challenge to get his attention all night long, and it really wasn’t that busy. Thankfully the other staff were nice and helped us with drinks and ordering desert. The cheese board starter came with only a few crackers and when we asked for more we were left waiting about 10 mins mid meal. Had to ask twice. Unfortunately won’t be back simply due to the poor waiter we had.

My partner and I went for an early lunch, we were met with a lovely young waitress who was more than accommodating. However, I ordered the Fish of the day and my partner ordered the Chicken Caesar salad. The salad was lacking everything. For €13 for it, I got only a few leafs, two small pieces of chicken and a half hard boiled just egg slapped on the plate . This was extremely disappointing. The chips served with the fish looked like oven bought chips just thrown on the plate. For the money we spent we were very underwhelmed by the food and could’ve spent it elsewhere for something a lot more enjoyable.

We visited this morning for breakfast, initially everything was fine with a pleasant waitress taking our order and contact tracing details. We then waited half an hour for some poached eggs and in the meantime had to listen to the manager berate one of his staff members and give out to customers for coming in with no mask telling them they must not be taking the situation seriously - all while wearing his own face shield on top of his head. Felt terrible for the staff member who had been berated as I would have been humiliated if that was me. Would not recommend and will not be returning.

Very disappointing experience. Service was slow and the food was below average. They actually completely forgot my order and I had to get fed elsewhere. In fairness to the waiter he was genuinely apologetic but it’s unbelievable that after such a long period of time in lockdown for the hospitality sector and customers alike that sub standard food and service would be an issue, especially in such a prime location.

Lovely food, great staff, cosy decor and great value. We didn’t book ahead but we’re lucky to get a table as they were very busy. However they had plenty staff and they were all really friendly and accommodating. The food was really tasty and portions were just right. My 2 small kids cleaned their plates and they are fussy eaters so that’s a great sign of a good restaurant in my opinion. Would recommend

Popped in on the off chance for a meal. Even though tables were reserved, they were able to offer us a table until the reservation time , which gave us plenty of time. The staff were very friendly and service was prompt but we never felt rushed during our meal. My partner ordered the sirloin steak which was excellent and I ordered the seafood linguine which was divine. Onto the dessert, we both ordered the bread and butter pudding and custard which was very light and tasty. There was no live music this evening but it was lovely to hear traditional Irish music playing in the background. A nice change from the usual pop that pubs play. The pub was clean and felt very homely. Would definitely return on our next visit
