Another superb dining experience in Kenmare. A great welcome to this “pub” restaurant. Service was efficient and the menu was the sort you want to try everything. Local fish and meat. So I’ll be back.

The ratings provide good evidence that this is an exceptional restaurant. The lovely design of the restaurant leads one to except a quality service and so it was. The food service team were well aware of both customer care and food service techniques, very affable,...smiley, and with a strong desire to please their guests. I have no doubt that our experience was exceptionally different to the norm. When cooking there are myriad factors that affect the final result, just one or two being slightly 'off' will change the final result. For us tonight it was more than a couple. Our first course of lobster and crab croquette with a beurre blanc sauce was very delicious. The hake was unfortunately over-cooked. Evidenced by contraction of protein resulting in a very dry product. This was also the case with the brisket. Both of these issues are detected in the mouth as dry fibres. The garniture and cordon of sauces were very tasty and a good accompaniment to their dishes. Unfortunately also the cabbage and broccoli were very under-cooked and had more than just a little bite to them. I have little doubt this is an exception to the rule and one should not judge a restaurant on just such evidence. But these were unfortunately our findings this evening.More

Outstanding food in a friendly, casual atmosphere. I had the best out meal I've had in years. The reason was that it was beautiful food, honestly cooked and not a foam or tower in sight. We chose the Tart Tatin for our pudding, and it...was unctuous and indulgent, with just a hint of bite in the sweet apples - all just as it should be. Thank you.More

I REALLY wanted to give Mulchahy’s five stars, but given my experience, I think four is generous enough. We checked into our lodging accommodations and our host told us to go there for dinner. Prior to arriving in Kenmare, I had tried making a reservation...but had no luck getting a response, so when our host suggested we walk up and see if we could snag a couple of seats, we did just that. To our surprise, we sat down for dinner without issue around 7pm on a Wednesday. Initial service was prompt, as our waitress took our drink order. Another waitress swung by a few minutes after for the food order, which was followed by the arrival of a bread board that was accompanied by butter and tapenade (really good stuff!). The food came out rather quickly. My partner got the Beef and Guinness pie, which was excellent. I ordered the Halibut. Let me just say that the presentation of my dish was fantastic, but the fish itself was not. It was overcook (see photo) and, thus, really dry. I was pretty disappointed in this because I had high hopes. Given a long day driving the Ring of Kerry, we decided to skip dessert. We then spent the next 10 minutes trying to get someone’s attention to bring us the check. I wish we would’ve had a dedicated waitress for the entire dinner; instead, we had 3-4 servers, so continuity was lacking. Would I return again? Probably, but I’d try an equal restaurant first before returning here based on my experience with the Halibut and service.More

Spectacularly good service in a town known for loving its visitors. The entire team were friendly, very hard working, efficient, helpful and not afraid to call a huge dish "small." The food is excellent, any changes were absolutely no trouble, but be warned, the portions...are big. Cocktails were delicious. The decor of the room is contemporary, it's just a touch noisy. But I couldn't get over the price. In a city setting, these dishes would be significantly smaller and 25% more expensive.More

Very disappointing! We didn’t have a reservation but were offered a table for an hour for a starter and main course, which was fine. Some lovely bread and water was brought straight away and we ordered. The menu lists them as ‘small plates’ and ‘large...plates’. Well the goat’s cheese starter was the smallest starter that I have ever seen - literally not enough for three teaspoons. My wife’s sushi on the other hand had five good-sized pieces. The “large plates” were though a joke: The Beef & Guiness pie would have fit on a saucer and the so-called fish “pie” (three small pieces of fish and two scallops in a vegetable & onion cream sauce with no top) was served in a small bowl. The fish and the veg were also over-salted. At least we were out within the hour - still hungry and €88 worse off! Apparently some of the large plates (like the ribeye!) are larger - smaller would be difficult. Would definitely not go back or recommend.More

Utterly Delightful. Mulcahys has to be one of the best restaurants in Ireland. The ambiance, food, staff are all fantastic. We had goats cheese & scampi for starters. Hubbie had Beef Brisket and I had monkfish for the main courses. Both were served with green...vegetables but if you wanted potatoes/chips etc, you can to pay extra, unfortunately, this isn’t as aspect of dining out that I agree it. IMO , restaurants should just serve main course with sides of salad/veg/potatoes. We enjoyed a bottle of wine and the overall bill was €115. The starters aren’t cheap -ours were priced at €12.50, we saw that prawn cocktail on the menu was €15 which is dear. The main courses were reasonably priced with the monkfish €28 & beef €26. But again if you wanted potatoes, this added €3.50 to the price of the main course. There was a rib eye steak on the menu for €35. Overall there is plenty of choice, lots of options for all tastes for small plates & mains. The staff were great- interested, chatty and efficient. We love eating here when visiting Kenmare & is definitely a firm favourite.More

Deserved fabulous food reviews . Everything was high class but dress was casual. Barley risotto and guinness.beef pie were 5 star delicious. Prices were reasonable for the quality of food and service. Yes it can be loud when busy but recommend going early or sitting...in the front of the restaurant.More

What a fabulous meal we had last night... A relaxed atmosphere with superb service and seriously good food!! We had 4 small plates and then one large. The white onion soup and the barley risotto were outstanding, the sushi and sashimi, absolutely fresh and brilliantly...executed. A simply described beef cheek dish was equally on point. A pile of the freshest scampi, simple deep fried in panko crumbs, were crunchy on the outside and moist in the middle, with a great Marie Rose sauce to dip them in. An assortment of ice-cream completed a memorable meal. With a glass and bottle of wine and a pint if the dark stuff the meal was a bargain at about 100 quid . Unlike restaurants in many places, no service was added... Service was faultlessMore
