Food and service were good. Bit to fancy for me really but I'd call in again if ever in Bakewell. Beautiful town.

thepeacockbakewell, I guess you don't need a silver fork to eat good food, at The Peacock, responded to this review

Thank you for taking time to post a positive review of your Christmas Lunch here at the Peacock bertie1312 - always appreciated. We made a special effort on Christmas Day for everybody and it's a shame you felt is was maybe a little too fancy for yourself - we understand, but I can assure you that everyone else thought the... We went to the Peacock to try to get a meal but were put off not only by the look of the place but the prices of the food. Greeted by a table covered in bottles of various coloured sauces actually in the entrance lobby, there was nowhere to sit if you just wanted a drink. The prices for food... More

What an awful condescending person you sound like Chesterpersons as you comment on a subject matter you have absolutely no idea what you are ranting on about. The Peacock fyi is an original 1820 lovely Traditional Coach House that in 2017 presents itself as a Pub that maintains it's original concept, but in modern times. Your headlining comment saying we... More

When visiting Bakewell it's usually a cafe or the chippy but we fancied a pub lunch for a change. Good choice. A warm welcome awaited us on arrival. And the food was superb. Well cooked and plentiful. We will definitely be back next visit. Thanks.

If the change of venue was a pleasure simon s we can only thank you for saying so, as we, as you rightly say, serve food that we also think is superb! Thanks for stating it, as one can never get enough of nice things being said!!! More

We called in here at the weekend, a nice place in a nice little village, was served by a lovely lass behind the bar, we tried one of their burgers, it was very nice, although i thought the drinks and meals were on the high side,

A nice positive honest view from banjodeano for which we thank you as you not only post a review of the food but attach a photo of 'one of their very nice burgers' - chicken burger by the way, on TripAdvisor. Nothing is ever on the high price if we ticked the boxes you highlight, but that's just a personal... More

My partner and I ordered the steak and ale and chicken and ham pies and it has to be said: they were delicious. Plenty of meat in the pies and lovely crispy chips with a mini boat of gravy to drizzle over the top. We thought £15 per pie was pretty steep but I think they just about pulled it... More

Yes Hugh G - a lovely pie, outstanding I'd say and worth every single penny of your hard earned money, so thanks for posting the complimentary remarks. What I won't thank you for is saying our pub - yes the Peacock Bar area is dingy, and where is this restaurant you refer to? We have different areas, different rooms all... More

Thank you for posting a review lynn j, but what you don't seem to understand as you stand at the bar people watching, is it's not that the staff are offish as you put it - they are busy and don't always have time as you have to make small talk at the bar. They, and all the staff are... More

Not very good I'm afraid been tonight and we booked it this afternoon at 12.30 we arrived and was shown to our table when the waitress arrived and asked us if we were booked in we explained that we had booked in that afternoon but the person who took the booking had booked us in for the next day however... I read the reviews but unfortunately was a bit disappointed. The food was no better than ok and the service was nothing to write home about. Ok, so you make your money on food but if you're going to serve lukewarm mulled wine at £5 a glass give us somewhere to sit! Whilst here you told a couple of drinkers to go next door if they wanted to sit down. Let's hope you maintain your dining trade because you lost some goodwill today.

What a pathetic review coming in from Paul H, as firstly how much do you think we should serve a large mulled wine for, and for each and every one of us who enjoys and likes a mulled wine, at what is the ideal temperature. All you had to do was politely ask us to warm it up for you... More

Table for seven on Christmas day. Having eaten out on Christmas day before, we were well prepared to pay the £79 per head price, which is similar to the prices we've paid elsewhere on this day. After all, who's going to work on Christmas day for normal rates? The food was first class from starter (which for me was a... More
