I went to canal tavern with two young children and my daughter , We waited 40 mins for two baguettes and a portion of chips. I had to ask for money back in the end , Requests for expected timing for food were answered with a flippant disinterest Barman was very rude to us , which was witnessed by other... More

Wasn't very busy but took ages to get served at the bar then another long ( >35 minutes) wait for food (2 sandwiches, burger & chips). One customer waited longer for a quiche and salad, and the barman was rude & sarcastic when a family with small children gave up waiting and asked for their money back. Can't recommend going... Went to eat at Lock Inn but very busy and claustrophic(wont go back). Walked across to the canal tavern had a lovely breakfast. Its dog friendly and did not have masses of noisy small children. Will go back very friendly landlord and the pub also has a nice lunch menu .

Happened upon this pub by chance and what a find. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered the the cottage pie and the steak and ale pie; both came piping hot and with a variety of vegetables and the steak pie was the best I've tasted in a long time. The staff were very friendly and the pub itself clean... More

Went here on a Friday night for a steak and ale pie! Being told the steak meat is from Walter rose and being told the have been awarded the best butcher in the Uk has given me good confidence! When it came out it was piping hot and freshly made with a rich thick gravy and small buttoned mushrooms! Later... More

Firstly the pub was extremely cold - on a cold evening. I was dining with a party of five. We were given a reasonable table but due to the temperature did not remove our coats. Of the one other table of three customers all were also wearing coats. Before ordering we pointed this out to our waiter (who frankly lacked... More

I am sorry that you were cold currently we are managing to keep the temperature in the bar at 20c. Wadworth have recently fitted a new heating system which works a lot better however we are waiting for to be piped up correctly for it to work at its optimum level. The gas fireplace to which you refer was decommissioned... More

I visit this pub regularly and enjoy my home made Steak and Ale pie. Kids and wife got their favourites including chicken Tennessee and the burgers. Very good food and nice welcome.

Pub empty when we poppped in on New Years Eve. Bar cluttered with junk and objects that could be out of view. Only one selection of red wine on offer for the biggest party night of the year. Barman was efficient enough and nearly cracked a smile. The whole place is in need of some TLC and a massive update.... More

Thank you for your review. We did not intend to open to the public on New years eve as we decided to take down the decorations. The objects in the bar were bags and other items which belong to some of our regulars who live on the canal, I like to help them by allowing them to come in to... More

Three generations of our family dropped in for Sunday lunch during the Floating Xmas market. There was enough choice on the menu for everyone to have more than one choice. When we ordered we were warned there might be a 30 minute wait, there wasn't. Everyone cleared their plates, the sign of well cooked food!! Thank you.

I was not looking forward to reviews from this day as we were so under staffed, we were not expecting the market draw so many people. Your comments are very kind, I am so proud that my staff who all pulled together to keep things running wonderfully. Well done to the small band of boaters who organised things so well... More
